Me, DH, 2 DS 8 & 9 plus MIL have decided we want to move from Devon to Yorkshire

Thought sharing our journey through the logistics of finding a house in Yorkshire, negotiating mortgages and logistics and selling a less than run of the mill house may be interesting.

I work in Leeds quite a lot so cutting down in travel is a massive bonus and living somewhere more urban is a draw.

We are looking for a 4 bed, in a small market town just outside of Leeds.
multi generational living is a bonus.

An extra lounge for MIL is needed.

We have seen a few properties we like but we are waiting until we have an offer

house went on the market 4 days ago and we have 10 viewings already.

Oo I am following as we're hoping to move from Cornwall to York and its quite scary. Especially with kiddos and navigating schools.

That latest one is on a slightly less desirable road OP. Its a standard semi that's been extended a lot and used as a business. It sold 2 years ago and I am suspicious too. Could be coincidence but also wouldn't rule out dodgy neighbours. Kitchen looks very small.

Lovely garden though and backs right onto fields with a view down to Leeds.

I am biased but much prefer Rothwell side of Leeds to the north/west areas. You would be 10 mins drive to city centre. Very convenient motorway networks and tons of natural/countryside areas on your doorstep.

I have friends who live in Church Fenton and like it. Another place you might consider.

If you were considering the south west side of Leeds/Huddersfield line I’d recommend Mirfield. It’s a decent town with good schools.

i prefer the Rothwell side of Leeds too. I can cycle to work from there, which is a bonus for me

We saw 6 houses in total.

really liked the Bingley side but houses were far more expensive and still needed work

or the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms were not big enough.

Methley is really lovely but the house there was too small.

The Rothwell house was our favourite and at 50k less than everything else we have been looking at, we are very tempted.

The road was quiet and it’s right on the edge of Rothwell.

We are seriously thinking about it.

Are you keeping an eye out for others things coming up in Rothwell? Or are you very flexible on town/village if the house is right?

We are flexible.

we loved the rural areas around Bingley and that felt much more like Yorkshire IYSWIM?

We have to bear in mind that my MIL will be 80 in 6 years and it’s a bit too remote for her really

Rothwell and the surrounding area felt more accessible with lots of amenities in walking distance.

Methley is lovely and the RSPB sanctuary is a massive draw.

We have put an offer in on the Rothwell house and we are due to hear back today!

Its not the finest street but the house is at the end next to fields and it felt very tranquil.

Offer has been accepted On the Rothwell house.

yes I have 2 DS, 8&9.

Thought I’d update on recent developments.

We have just sorted out our mortgage, the extra borrowing is 4.7% for 5 years which is ok.

it’s only to cover moving costs and stamp duty so we are content with that.

survey on current property is due next week so fingers crossed. Not worried as I’m fairly pragmatic, can’t change the outcome!

Just been reading your post and wondered how it all worked out for you? My dh would like to make the move from South to North Yorkshire but moving the kids schools etc it feels like a bit of a mission.
