I drive past this house occasionally visiting a friend and it’s a bit marmite (and I’d love them to get rid of the red stuff). But i just spotted it’s still on Rightmove a year on.

It’s huge!! House in B93

Perfect if you like grey & red!!
I honestly thought it was an empty house just staged for the photos, until I saw all the clothes.
It has no character, no personal possessions etc. Where are the magazines, candles, children's toys, plants?
I wouldn't want to live there.

Fourfurrymonsters · 04/03/2023 11:17

A triumph of money over style, comfort and homeliness. I couldn’t be paid to live in something like that, never mind shell out over £3mill.

Florissant · 04/03/2023 11:18

It's not to my taste but I am sure it will suit someone!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 04/03/2023 11:19

Not sure a second division footballer could afford that. It looks like Mrs Hinch's wet dream.

PalmTree1982 · 04/03/2023 11:19

Compared to the second one I think also the garden will take years to develop/build up again.

OP posts:
tenbob · 04/03/2023 11:25

I don’t think it is occupied…

maybe the developer is using the walk in wardrobe as overflow storage for their own clothes collection, having run out of space in their own house? Or it’s their weird idea of staging a lifestyle..?

None of the other rooms have any signs of being lived in, they all look (really badly) staged

TheGenerousGardener · 04/03/2023 11:26

I don't think anyone lives there, the clothes are just props. The house could be make to look really nice inside but who on earth would pay that much money to live so close to a motorway?

PalmTree1982 · 04/03/2023 11:27

Due back for a coffee walk this month so I’ll ask my friend, or if I drive that way I’ll drive by. I’m pretty sure there have been cars outside it in the past

The problem with it is that it is so over styled that it would cost a fortune on top to turn it into a lovely family home. The rooms are way too big to be cosy and the garden is just, well, nothing. I generally like modern properties so I'm certainly not snobbish about only liking period homes, but this is just soulless.
Agree with pp about the rendering too, every house renovation near me has it and they all look the same.

MrsWojadobakowsky · 04/03/2023 11:27

Sadly that is what people are doing to houses now. If they can't afford a new build characterless grey box like the first one they buy a lovely character home and knock it down, replacing it with a characterless grey box.

I live in an area that was filled with lovely houses, all with their own features and warmth. Every time one sells it is demolished or party demolished, leaving just the fascia and rebuilt into one of those boxes with no soul. Then the fascia is wiped out with plain render and grey framed windows, add an ugly door to make it look like a shop or spa and that's it. All trace of warmth gone.

Then the garden is wiped out, trees cut down, hedges ripped out, huge sheds built at the end of the garden so the occupants can drink and shout and keep everyone awake most of the night, and choke people with their stinking fire pits.

It adds to the environmental problems.

Viviennemary · 04/03/2023 11:29

It's horrible. More like an aircraft hanger than a house. No charm whatsoever.

PalmTree1982 · 04/03/2023 11:30

The loss of beautiful gardens is that hardest. With driveways too. We need to some some work to our driveway but tried to keep as many trees and bushes as we could and thankfully succeeded.

our road recently flooded - surface flooding and drains over flowing. Our house was impacted the least I genuinely think because we still have some sort of garden at the front of the house.

Rendering is cheaper than bricks I guess?

PalmTree1982 · 04/03/2023 10:49

Maybe the kids get scared so they’re together.

Scared of getting lost in the rest of the house? Fair.

CornishTiger · 04/03/2023 11:32

Crumbs. I’m actually appreciating my overcrowded 3 bed terrace seeing that listing. So clinical.

Fizbosshoes · 04/03/2023 11:39

My first thought was all the people who claim they do 10k steps while pottering about the house might be right if they lived here!

It looks very empty and devoid of life

daisypond · 04/03/2023 11:40

Gosh, that really is horrid. I don’t believe any children live there, at least. It’s just staging. It could be made nice but it needs to be redecorated completely.

diddl · 04/03/2023 11:41

Branleuse · 04/03/2023 10:40

Thats as hideous as it is expensive

Yup!

Small garden, looks like a bog standard street with houses all next to each other.

The stairs looks like a drop down loft ladder!

Tiredalwaystired · 04/03/2023 11:41

It’s ugly, has no character and is ridiculously expensive. Even if I had that sort of money it would be a hard pass from me.

ScottBakula · 04/03/2023 11:53

The grey house is not to my taste at all , if I lived there ( yeah right !) It would have to be softened up a lot , it is very stark
The 2nd one is much nicer and though I am not keen on all of the decor it's tons better .
The garden looks loads better too.
It's a brave soul that has a out door pool in this country I bet it doesn't get used much

ThePoshUns · 04/03/2023 11:55

Awful.
Soulless decor with the red rugs everywhere make it all look so cheap. The stair and hall look like an 80s shopping mall.
No thank you.

hotpotlover · 04/03/2023 11:55

I am not sure why everyone is so negative. It is a bit soulless, but people with that kind of money can afford to hire an interior designer and update the entire house. I know Solihull quite well and I would absolutely buy there if I could afford it

The house is very large, but rich people are known for buying massive houses.

Rich people are also known for not always having the best taste. Has anyone watched MTV Cribs back in the good old days? 😂

There might be valid reason why it's been on the market for a year. Maybe a sale has fallen through. Maybe they are legal issues due to a divorce.

CellophaneFlower · 04/03/2023 11:55

Daffodilsandbeer · 04/03/2023 11:17

Wow, folks love the word “hideous” on here and attacking properties

the second one is gorgeous, but the first isn’t to my taste but I’d not need to keep the red stuff and can redecorate so for me, no issues.

to be honest though, I thought it was a single man’s home. I’m really surprised there is a whole family living there inc a woman, from the clothes and shoes. It feels quite stark and cold to me.

It's not just redecorating though. The gloss tiles, everything shiny, banister. Putting some colour in there isn't going to change it's starkness. It would cost a hell of a lot to make it homely.

The fence makes it look like a prison.

ThePoshUns · 04/03/2023 11:55

fruitstick · 04/03/2023 11:11

It looks like that scene from Schindler's List with the girl in the coat.

Yes!

ThePoshUns · 04/03/2023 11:57

Not keen on the second one either.
