A white paint that isn't so stark and clinical?

DH refuses to paint our new build kitchen in any colour but the white it is currently is so stark and cold. Has anyone else had this dilemma and found a solution? We don't want cream, but is there a white that looks clean and minimal but not so cold and sterile! Thank you!

Go to the builder's merchant and get Dulux Trade colour mixed to match F&B All white or whatever it's called - their palest white without brighteners.

This is the info I needed! Thanks!

Dulux white cotton is nice

I have warm white by Aterlier Ellis in my hall stairs and landing, it's definitely a white rather than an "off white" without being in any way harsh. They don't do a kitchen paint though so you might need to get it colour matched.

You've bought the wrong white. There are countless gorgeous warm whites that are not cream or ivory.

Or OP, get hold of the Mylands colour chart. Their paint is mixed with marble powder and has a stunning quality.

Dulux Timeless!

Loft white from Little Greene is a brilliant white that isn't stark or harsh. I have it throughout my house.

Thanks ladies! This was what I needed. Will buy one of these tomorrow.

Dulux Swedish white.

daisypond · 02/03/2023 17:26

Leyland antique white.

I have F&B Wimborne White which is a warm creamy white. I had it mixed at Johnstones.

QueenMabs · 02/03/2023 18:15

Dulux timeless is perfect.

abandonhope · 02/03/2023 18:50

Johnstone's trade paint Swansong is white but not brilliant white.

In my house Timeless and Wimborne White had a yellow tinge.

We just used that in our new kitchen, it definitely makes it feel less cold and stark.

Shirting, Little Greene

I second this. If it’s still too white for you, maybe Shirting from the same company.

I find that if you go too “off-white” it ends up resembling grubby white after a while!

What colour are your kitchen cupboards?

I would agree that any of the shades of white previous posters have recommended could work but you really need to get test pots first. I’ve used F&B Wimborne White throughout my house but in the kitchen it looked lemon.
We went with F&B All White instead.

TyneTeas · 03/03/2023 00:53

80s Magnolia...

Limetreee · 03/03/2023 06:11

I’ve just had my very small kitchen which opens on to the hall stairs and landing painted white, I wasn’t sure, and had looked at lots of off whites, My decorator had said he doesn’t like shades of white as they can look very tired and dull. I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out.

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/03/2023 06:16

You have to try testers in the actual room. Or the Dulux Vizualizer is pretty good ime, but only for Dulux paint colours, obviously. Timeless is a slightly brown tinged white. White Cotton is a grey tinged white. Different ones work in different lights.

SunnyUpNorth · 03/03/2023 07:29

I love f&b All White but I think it is quite a ‘white’ white! I was going to suggest Wimbourne White, it’s a creamier white. But I would test it on your walls first and also see how it is next to your cabinets. If your cabinets are a stark light grey for example a warmer white might not look good.

moodymary · 03/03/2023 08:23

I have LG shirting and Mylands pure white in my home as I wanted the same as you describe- clean white but not clinical. Would recommend either, they are almost identical.
I also have Dulux timeless which is off white, not as ‘clean’ but a bit warmer
I found F &B Wimborne White to be too yellow.

It’s so dependent on the light and aspect of the room though.

Mumsnut · 03/03/2023 08:45

F&B Pointing. The only one that didn’t look yellowish in poor light on my walls.

turnthebiglightoff · 03/03/2023 08:59

Dulux fine cream is lovely. Warm undertones.
