show me your modern kitchen bins

we have recently moved into a lovely new house, very modern kitchen with kitchen island but no place looks right for a bin! It is an open plan kitchen and living/dining area. Quite small though. Any suggestions for a bin? One side of the island has space underneath but we have put bar stools here. So nowhere to hide a bin. Under the sink area is too small. Best I can think of is having a multicompartment smart bin next to the island but this would definitely ruin its beauty. Any ideas?

Do you have drawers?
We have these Emuca - Waste bins, waste sorting bin for cut-out base, set of 2 bins height 266mm with 15 litres capacity amzn.eu/d/8AKPX36
which are low enough to go in a standard pan drawer

I like my Joseph Joseph Totem bin but the locking mechanism is not as good as on my Brabantia. I did buy on Amazon Prime day a couple of years ago and got it for around 1/2 price.

no advice but I saw something on Insta which said the posher the house, the more the bins are hidden from everyday view 😂

We have a bin from wayfair which I love. It has a built in food bin in the rubbish part to catch any gun age. Then separate compartments below for recycling. Means we only have to keep paper separately

And it's motion sensor. We're in wales and we recycle so much incl food. This bin really works.

balin · 23/01/2023 16:23

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully Do you have a link for this bin?

I got one a simplehuman bin, as they do a slim line bin for smaller spaces. Crazy expensive, and I nearly didn't buy it because of the price, but it's the best kitchen bin I have ever had.

I have a small Brabantia bin which fits on the inside of the cupboard door (below the sink).
It get emptied pretty much every two days. I wouldn't want a bin on show (my kitchen is tiny).
I have a Joseph Joseph totem bin for recycling, in the utility.

we’ve this one, yes it’s a touch pricey but something that gets used all the time and we have to look at constantly it’s been a good investment !

Diyextension · 23/01/2023 18:34

We got this brand new off a friend, when it came it had a small dent on the front, so they sent him another and said keep the other one. I gave him a fiver for it 🙂.

who on earth spends that on a bin 🤨 it’s red too.

Get a large multicompartment pedal bin from Brabantia/EKO/Superhuman. Expensive but should last.

I have this 1 too, but the one with 2 equal compartments. It's especially good if you have ufh. It does dent really easily though.

evemillbank · 24/01/2023 10:10

Simple human bins are great. They last forever

balin · 26/01/2023 10:22

Thanks everyone. We went for a two compartment pedal bin in the same colour scheme as our kitchen. Looks lovely and just the right size.

I have had simple human bin for nearly 15 year! Few times the hatch had been replaced and they sent me replacement by post

I never thought I’d find myself swooning over a bin! But where do the bin liners go? I wouldn’t want to ruin its beauty.

CellophaneFlower · 26/01/2023 20:52

@Findyourneutralspace there are inner bins so the bags tuck under there, then the lid has a frame which conceals them 😊 I never thought I'd pay so much for a bin, but there's so little choice and the others are so ugly! Nobody knows what it is though. Everybody always asks where my bin is... I have no idea what they think it is 😂

TizerorFizz · 26/01/2023 23:11

@balin I would wonder why on earth they weren’t built in in the first place? Who didn’t think about that? I have a recycling bin and a general waste bin so I don’t need anything freestanding.

JennyMumsnet · 08/02/2023 16:39

Hi @balin thanks for posting! I can see you've already found a great kitchen bin option, but I just wanted to post a quick link to our guide for the best kitchen bins as rated by Mumsnet users in case it's of use to any other posters who've come across the thread. Feel free to let us know if you've any feedback Smile
