Happy new year all!

We're getting a new kitchen this year and I would love some inspiration for worktops and units. If you love your kitchen please will you share a photo and where your purchased from? Thank you 😊

I'm only in the planning stages, but to see the kind of thing I like, look up Uncommon projects/plykea/wood and wire.

Isseywith3witchycats · 06/01/2023 15:00

Ours is from DIY Kitchens about 18 months ago we had to rewire, plaster and get tiled floors put in the worktops are duropal laminate carrera marble pattern cost altogether around £6000

I really love our kitchen - we are hoping to move soon and I am feeling very sad about leaving it!
It’s IKEA carcasses with fronts by Holte Studio and a Caesarstone quartz worktop.
Things I love about it:

  • Base units all drawers not cupboards
  • pull out bins
  • pull out extractor
  • under unit lighting
  • induction hob
  • underfloor heating

The only thing I don’t like about it is that it would have been nice to have more worktop space but we would have lost out in another area to do that without extending.
We could probably have done it a bit cheaper and it would still have been as nice, or almost. Next time I will be a bit more savvy.

Oooh, I've heard about DIY kitchens, yours looks fantastic. Was it ok designing it yourself?

Gorgeous! I love the lighting too. Also noting the wine rack. I find that you can never have enough worktop space, especially with all the gadgets we have these days. People keep telling me to go with drawers but I feel I will miss cupboards - do you find drawers work for everything?

Love my kitchen. Cost about £10,000 from an independent kitchen designer but has everything I wanted

@TickTickTock The drawers are brilliant, but we do also have cupboards in the full height units opposite the sink (not really visible in the photos). We have a larder unit, and the washing machine is hidden behind a door and above that is a massive cupboard which is great for cleaning products, wrapping paper, random bulky bits and bobs that we don't necessarily need access to all the time and wouldn't fit easily in a drawer.

I would add that the IKEA kitchen designer was brilliant. We met with her in person and she did it all in front of us and had loads of suggestions that we didn't know existed eg - another thing I love but didn't mention - drying rack hidden in the unit above the sink. I would definitely use Ikea's planning service again.

Your kitchen is beautiful, bet its lovely just sitting at the kitchen table or on the chairs outside on a sunny day. Very envious that my kitchen is a throwback from the 80s and we are in an upstairs flat with a rubbish yard!!

This is beautiful! Love all the clean white finishes, it's so effective. I'm a big fan of white with either black or dark grey, but I also love it when I see splashes of colour in people's kitchens. I don't have the confidence to pick a bold colour though!

My DH has a joinery firm and built this kitchen back in 2005 and it's still going strong!

He can usually almost match what the big firms charge as their mark up is insane.

Wowsers! Beautiful. Hadn't considered a joinery firm, something to ponder. Loving those windows 😍😍😍

I really can’t think of anything that you can put in a cupboard but not a drawer, and the drawers just makes them more accessible. There were things at the back of our cupboards we hadn’t seen for ages as we just couldn’t access them easily meanwhile since we had drawers it’s easy to see everything easily.

if you have a pantry you can also keep those as cupboard with pull out drawers which still gives the cupboard look and feel with increased accessibility if needed.

My brand spanking new kitchen completed this October as part of our extension! Units from DIY Kitchens, absolutely love it

Isseywith3witchycats · 06/01/2023 20:37

sorry just seen you asked about designing it on DIYs planner what we did was got a qoute and design from wickes (they were twice the price) and as we live near to the showroom took wickes plan to them and got them to turn it into a DIY plan so from wickes one we had all the measurements done for us which cost no extra money

FellowClassicsMum · 06/01/2023 20:45

This is our new lovely kitchen that was fitted in the summer. We got it from Howdens - I particularly love that the quartz worktop and all the body bits like the drawers/ pull out pantry/ hidden cutlery drawer. I’ve included a before photo to show how small and tatty it was before the refit. I don’t want to admit how long we lived with it 😳

Oops I should have proofread my post 🤦‍♀️ I’m not even sure what I was trying to say that came out as ‘body’. I think I was trying to say ‘I really like all the extra bits’ 🤷‍♀️

TickTickTock · 06/01/2023 20:58

Wow, what a transformation! I'm loving that sleek white look again. Is it light grey on that far wall? We have lived with ours since we moved here 8 years ago, and it was tatty then so you can imagine it now! We replaced the door fronts at one point but the whole lot needs gutting now. I'm underlining 'pantry cupboard/drawer' after these posts now!

Haha I didn't even notice! Just assumed you meant the units as the main 'body' of the kitchen, lol

Ah, that island!! What a beautiful kitchen, the dark units are lovely. Sadly I don't think we'll have room for an island... :(

Can't wait to have floor to ceiling units. Cleaning on top of our cupboards is a nightmare 😝

It’s Little Greenes French Grey 113 - we already had it in the dining room so extended it through to make the space more coherent. It’s a massive transformation - worth every penny! Our kitchen is never going to be the biggest width wise (and we can’t extend sideways) but it feels so much less claustrophobic than before. There’s even a slimline integrated dishwasher - first time I’ve ever owned one and I’ve no idea how I ever managed without it 😂
