Dishwasher tablet not dissolving - help.

Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 21:13

Can anyone help with any ideas / suggestions as to why my dishwasher tablets aren’t dissolving. (this has just started happening today)

The compartment is opening, but the tablet is still undissolved in there at the end of the wash.

pic attached of recent quick wash.
after longer washes the tablet was more intact.

Shout out to @pigletjohn or anyone else who can help.
TIA

Is the compartment definitely opening fully? When we had similar I had a cup blocking the opening so it was trying to open then when we opened the door it was fully opening and the tablet was falling into the bottom (ours was a gel one so was still intact). It took me a while to figure it out!

greenacrylicpaint · 17/12/2022 21:23

yes, check that the space where the doors opens is clear (handle of something sticking out?

also we had that when the heat element was broken. needed a new one, was relatively cheap.

Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 21:27

Thank you - both.
Yes, I’m pretty sure the compartment is fully opening. But good point @WhatICallMyUsername i’ll reload it to double check nothing is blocking, and will put another quick wash on.

Just throw the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher. You don't need to put it in the compartment. I never do

PieonaBarm · 17/12/2022 21:30

I never close the compartment either, and if DH has crammed every dish we own in It I often put 2 in, they always dissolve. Don't bother with salt or rinse aid either, everything comes out fine

Suchabigsleepyhead · 17/12/2022 21:32

Ours was doing that. We filled up the salt and not had a problem since.

peachgreen · 17/12/2022 21:33

Mine did this when it wasn’t getting hot enough

formulatingAresponse · 17/12/2022 21:40

Does it have a plastic wrapper ?

On some you need to remove them

On others they dissolve

Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 21:42

Salt is fine (and rinse aid) - it tells me when both need topping up.

@peachgreen - not getting hot enough would make sense. Though I do recall it seemed hot after it opened following one of the earlier normal washes (opposed to the quick ones). But maybe it isn’t hot enough.
How did you sort it?

OP posts:
Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 21:42

@formulatingAresponse - dissolvable ones

Called an engineer who prescribed a new dishwasher. Sorry. 😬

SleekMamma · 17/12/2022 21:44

Which brand of tablet?

Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 21:53

@peachgreen - ha! I’d be annoyed if I needed a new one, this one is only just over 3 years old, and it doesn’t get hammered.

I'd make sure you're not blocking the compartment opening by overloading the top shelf.
Try putting the tablet in the cutlery compartment otherwise

peachgreen · 17/12/2022 21:59

Yeahhhh mine was less than a year old. I did at least get my new one for free!

sleighbellsjiggling · 17/12/2022 22:37

Mine did that when the spinny thing was blocked by something from the shelf above. A clean and rearrange of things helped. I hope you find an easy fix!

NotToBeOrToBe · 17/12/2022 23:02

Just fling mine into the bottom of the machine.

NannyR · 17/12/2022 23:07

A dishwasher repairman once told me not to use the tablet compartment and that the best place to put the tablet was in the cutlery basket.

That should work fine.

Clevs · 17/12/2022 23:15

When that happens to us it's usually because there is a large plate in front of the compartment that is preventing it from opening fully.

Nat6999 · 17/12/2022 23:24

I use the powder after having the tabs left in the drawer so many times.

I have a cutlery tray not a basket!
But I tried @PieonaBarm’s trick of 2 tabs,
(one chucked in the bottom) and one in the compartment. And a rejig of the top shelf, and that seemed to work.
I’ll try it again tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for all your tips and advice!

@Nat6999 never heard of dishwasher powder. I’ll look into that too. 👍🏻

also check the compartment is dry before putting the tablet in.

like PPs, I just chuck it in at the bottom

melodybear · 17/12/2022 23:37

I had this exact problem and I also now just put it on the bottom of the machine where it dissolves fine.
