Can you explain it? Very interesting old house

OP posts:
ordinarilyordinary · 22/11/2022 23:41

It's cash buyers only. Likely because no building society in their right mind would shell out for that!

noblegiraffe · 22/11/2022 23:43

Semidetached! What on earth do the neighbours make of it? All their heating must go straight through the walls.

Schnooze · 22/11/2022 23:46

I like the en-suite idea.

You can’t get a mortgage if the proeprty doesn’t have a bathroom and kitchen.

piedbeauty · 23/11/2022 00:00

What crap photos. Where's the bathroom pic? The kitchen? Who cares about the wallpaper?!

piedbeauty · 23/11/2022 00:04

Omg, just realised - no bathroom. No bathroom?! How does that work? And an ancient kitchen...

It has a bathroom, they just haven't shown the photos.
With some work I'm sure it would be fine, no?

ClownSchool · 23/11/2022 00:13

What does this mean? Don’t they want to sell it? (To be fair, it has a lovely apple tree - maybe they can’t bear to part with it?)

I'm trying to read what the signs on the gate of their NDNs says (street view).

Talia99 · 23/11/2022 00:20

Until someone mentioned it was a semi, I assumed it was a buy and tear down.

It needs an enormous amount of work but I would agree with blocking off the lethal doors upstairs and making those rooms into two en suites.

The unlabelled room off the dining room could be a downstairs loo and the current shower room made accessible from the kitchen to be a utility. The loo could be accessible from just the utility since I wouldn’t want a toilet directly off the dining room.

You wouldn’t need to move walls which would save a bit, though I assume getting plumbing to upstairs wouldn’t be cheap.

Of course, the overall cost depends on how bad the house structure is. If the hole in the floor is rot, it could be very expensive.

That was in reply to @TheOrigRights

It has a downstairs shower room which quite possibly used to have a bath in it but my guess would be someone very elderly had lived in the property for 40+ years. We did up a house in similar condition which had a built in larder in the kitchen and a sink with a cupboard under it but nothing else plus downstairs shower room. We got a mortgage but it was 20+ years ago and had equity from a previous sale to do the works.

Thank you. They just need some bunting to complete their very warm welcome!

ClownSchool · 23/11/2022 00:30

😂

bettytaghetti · 23/11/2022 00:31

Whoever was taking the photos must have been a bit worried about who was lurking in the decapitated outbuildings as they've put the security chain on the door in photo #9! 😬

Aquamarine1029 · 23/11/2022 00:34

That's what you call a money pit.

allthelittlelights · 23/11/2022 00:44

You can see a mega mould and damp problem. By the bin there's water marks/green stuff growing and inside, wallpaper is lifting and the walls all stained.

CaptainSensiblesRedBeret · 23/11/2022 00:46

Stayed in a cottage in Whitby with a similar death trap bedroom to bathroom over the top of the stairs situation. Excellent for getting the adrenaline going when you need an early morning wee!

toomuchlaundry · 23/11/2022 00:49

That staircase and doors remind me of nightmares I have

Went travelling up street view and there is a very posh house further up the road.

Whatsleftnow · 23/11/2022 01:20

I’m falling completely in love with it. I’m a sucker for sad looking old houses. Thank goodness I don’t actually have any money.

I was just thinking I have had weird dreams where I’m in weird houses with bizarre stairs/doors combo.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/11/2022 01:44

prospective viewers are to note that the property show signs of dilapidation and therefore extreme care is required on the viewing

I've actually seen houses on RM that looked far more dangerous than this one, and no warning. There was one which had a virtual tour and I wondered who was brave enough to film it. ( Sadly I can't remember where it was.)

I quite like it from the outside. Has character

oakleaffy · 23/11/2022 01:54

I don't get a very good vibe from this poor house...
It has a very uneasy feeling to it somehow.

Very ''Sad''.

Has potential to be ok with masses of work..looks terribly damp.
