Can you explain it? Very interesting old house

I grew up in a house that had an old Rayburn stove identical to that. I feel quite nostalgic seeing it. It gave out a massive amount of smoke though and was only used when we had (fairly frequent) power cuts.

More worrying is the mat in front of the range in the kitchen

I don't think the range is in the kitchen. I think it's in the dining room Grin

I’m falling completely in love with it. I’m a sucker for sad looking old houses. Thank goodness I don’t actually have any money.

You and me both.

I just hope some developer doesn't buy it, bring in his bulldozer and flatten the lot so he can build 6 featureless monstrosities in its place.

Yes the kitchen is a little extension at the back . Next door has one too. So the now dining room was originally the old kitchen,.hence why the old stove is there.

but something Is wrong with thr floor plans. What is this room for example, and there seems to be a bedroom to the side of the dining room, and then you can see another door at the end of the dining room leading to the living room

i think the floor plan is wrong, which makes me think the agent hasn’t been in the property, the current owners took the pics.

It’s just a lobby/inner hallway. Not a room.

im not sure of the point of another lobby there though in such a small house. And as said, I think the floor plan downstairs is wrong.

I don't think it's wrong just an odd layout. The kitchen and bathroom look like they are probably a later extension. Which has resulted in that small waste of space room.
What it was originally who knows! I first thought it could be a pantry as houses of that age would have often had a large one. But odd to have a window in it... perhaps it was a bathroom?

If you have a downstairs bathroom you don’t want it directly off a room, believe me!

You used to have to have 2 doors between a bathroom and a habitable room.

NotMeNoNo · 23/11/2022 19:25

It's possible the room that's the lobby/bathroom has been partitioned, the bathroom window is non original, it may have been a scullery/ larder arrangement or even an outhouse accessed from the back

Be afraid be VERY AFRAID...

BlueMongoose · 23/11/2022 20:38

Maybe there was a sort of trapdoor flap that made a 'landing' at one time? That you could drop down once you were up the stairs?
