Is East Dulwich a nice area?

Hi, We are looking at two houses in East Dulwich, one is at Fellbrigg Rd and another one is at Friern Rd. The house at Friern one is better than Fellbrigg one, but I feel people living at Fellbrigg are better (a lot of council-owned converted flats on Friern Road). Dulwich is completely new to me, my opinion may be wrong, please give me some advice. Thanks!

Yes. Both roads chokka with wealthy families who have paid over a million for their Victorian terraced houses.

What is wrong with being a council tenant?

bigTillyMint · 12/11/2022 16:46

Well, their houses are worth over a million, they may have bought them long ago 😉

Wow

cimena · 12/11/2022 16:58

wow II

Johnnysgirl · 12/11/2022 17:00

How many people did you meet that you were able to designate them "better" than the average? I wonder would they consider you were one of them, or think you were lowering the tone? 🤔

Shock

I think you must be moving here from overseas?

Please don't write off other people based on their income.

Buy the better house and get to know your neighbours.

Maybe the neighbours would rather that she didn't 😂

friern road is a nice road.

wallpower · 12/11/2022 17:14

Plenty of those on Fellbrigg will have bought years ago so may not fit your definition of better 😆

yfhh · 12/11/2022 17:52

you are overreacting. "better" means houses are better than converted flats! those low-quality flats are mainly occupied by tenants and their landlords normally don't maintain their houses nicely

Don't tell people they're overreacting when you said "I feel people living at Fellbrigg are better"

Wow

Fellbrigg has less converted flats, converted flats are mainly occupied by tenants. What's wrong with this? house owners always keep their houses nicer than tenants.

Have you lived anywhere else in London before, OP?

wallpower · 12/11/2022 18:09

the irony of it 😆

That's actually not true in London. Plenty of flats are owner occupied. Perhaps you should look in a different area.

It is true as I have checked all land registry ownership on both streets.

??! First of all, slightly mad to have got ALL the lbs registry info - must have set you back a bit - but also how do you know whether the owners are the occupants or not? I’ve got visions of you going door to door with a clipboard…

Motnight · 12/11/2022 18:53

Op you are talking bollocks.

Confused That was quite an undertaking, op! it still doesn't tell you whether the owner is the actual occupier or not, it's bizarre that you seem to have gone through a list (obtained at some expense) and imagine you've identified whether the registered owner is actually resident or not.
CorporateBull · 12/11/2022 19:10

Hmmmmm.

Anyway, I say Fellbrigg because the way the automatic voice on the bus says Friern Road is really annoying, so the less of that the better.

cimena · 12/11/2022 19:46

you didn’t say the houses/flats were better, you said the people were better

Clearly, I mean house owners are better than tenants in terms of maintenance

No, it isn't clear. Not remotely.

DSe · 12/11/2022 20:42

You are backtracking OP.
You clearly said that homeowners are better people than council tenants.
