Heating won't turn on

purpleme12 · 05/11/2022 11:27

I have a combi boiler. Baxi.
The heating isn't coming on!
I turn it on at the thermostat, it does the flame symbol on there so it's doing what it should on there.
But on the boiler there's no light on the radiator bit and I'm guessing there's supposed to be a light when the heating's working
Has anyone had this happen before?
Does anyone have any experience with any of this?

I turned it on 'continuous' yes because we don't have it on timed settings or anything we just put it on when we need it on and turn it off after a bit.

I haven't reset it no. (Although I have turned it off and on but I believe that's different to resetting)

Perhaps I should reset it

To reset it says turn it anti clockwise fully.
Well it won't go past the R setting so I don't understand that?

Rotate it as far as it will go and hold for 3 seconds. We have the same boiler

Whatsinanamereally82 · 05/11/2022 12:11

Is the temperature going up when you start it? Is the light for hot water coming on?

I tried this and it only went as far as the R setting
But I did do it but nothing happened

Have you bled the radiators recently I've had issues before where air has been in the system so I'd try doing that as well.

Bizarrely my boiler is also not working this morning and have just messaged an engineer about it.

The temperature goes up when I run the hot water yes and yes the light for the hot water comes on when I run the hot water. So it can't be completely broken?

I had this recently and the pump had broken and needed to be replaced.

Does the hot water work? If so then it probably isn't the pump. With mine neither the heating or hot water we're working.

belimoo · 05/11/2022 12:20

Sorry, just seen your last post. If the hot water is powered by the boiler then it's probably not the pump.

No I haven't but I thought when they needed bleeding it meant half the radiator worked?
None of mine are working and I'm guessing the radiator light should be on on the boiler and it isn't?

Have you tried turning it off at the thermostat and back on again? Ours does this sometimes and that usually solves it, or change the AA batteries in the thermostat

It was when I turned the heating on at the thermostat that I realised it wasn't working.
We don't have the heating on on timers because if we did we'd have it on way more than we do now. We switch the heating on when we need it and off a after a bit

Probably not the case, water is drawn through the boiler when you turn on a tap, it doesn't need a pump. The pump is used to push water around the heating circuit.

This is spooky but mine has done the same thing and I have the same boiler.

I read that it might be that the receiver box isn’t communicating with the thermostat but I don’t have any sync/pairing button on my receiver, just an on/off switch and the light 🤷🏻‍♀️

DeeofDenmark · 05/11/2022 12:36

@pigletjohn might be able to help

CandyFloss35 · 05/11/2022 12:36

@purpleme12 yes we do the the same as you. Turn it back off at the thermostat and then back on to continuous. If that doesn’t help try replacing the batteries as the thermostat won’t talk to the boiler if the batteries are dead, our thermostat has a battery indicator light but it’s pretty useless at displaying when the batteries need changing.

Oh that's so wierd it's happened to you too!

I don't know how to do this 🙈 and I'm worried about doing it wrong 😟

Hard to see from the photo but it looks like the pressure is okay
can you take a photo of just the gauge at the far right?

grannycake · 05/11/2022 12:46

I also have this boiler & the same problem. However if I wiggle the plastic hoses at the back it switches on. This happened both today and yesterday. I'm going to get a plumber to look at it but it's worth you giving that a go.

TimBoothseyes · 05/11/2022 12:47

Could it be the exchange valve? I had this with a previous boiler, the valve wouldn't switch over when the heating came on, so I still had hot water but no heat.

Sorry to take over the thread but I’m wondering whether the batteries I’ve put in aren’t strong enough to ‘talk’ the boiler, they were older ones from one of DCs toys 🤦🏻‍♀️
