Is no bath really such a problem?

We have kids 7, 5 and 6 months and we wouldn’t mind no bath, but thinking of if we sell the house?

The 2 youngest do enjoy a bath admittedly but the bathroom is tiny and I’m desperate for more space! Could get a deep shower tray for the baby to splash around in. Or get a tiny bath, but to me those would be more off putting than no bath?

Eagerly watching this. Considering going to one downstairs bath but don't want to regret.

Part of me thinks if you feel like that other buyers might feel that way too? But then housing market so precarious at the mo!

Sorry wildly unhelpful but just to say I personally don't think it's a big deal!

I would be put off buying a house without a bath or at least would have to factor in the cost of replacing the bathroom in my offer.

mynameiscalypso · 15/10/2022 18:00

I wouldn't buy somewhere without a bath. My DS hates showers with a passion and I also like to have a bath.

kirinm · 15/10/2022 18:00

We had this same issue and ended up keeping the bath. I felt that not having a bath (even if one fits) in what is a very small bathroom might make people worry they couldn't fit one in. Most people I asked (friends) said they'd want a bath.

Jasmineblossom24 · 15/10/2022 18:01

For me (with 4 young dc) a bath is very important. It’s nice for them to have a splash about (and actually wash all bits and pieces) and nice to relax in with candles and a glass of vino. Maybe if the DC were older and preferred showers, but a bath for me is important. However, saying that, if the bathroom was tiny then having a small bath could be a waste of space - better to invest in a super duper shower instead.

DelurkingAJ · 15/10/2022 18:01

I would be put off. My greatest indulgence is a long hot bath…I have one several nights a week. DSs would be unimpressed as both prefer to have a bath.

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/10/2022 18:02

I would be out off but I'm seeing so many with lovely walk in showers instead of baths they must be popular.

TheMoops · 15/10/2022 18:02

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath.
I don't think reducing the price would make a difference either as I wouldn't want to do the work.

rainbowandglitter · 15/10/2022 18:04

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath. My nan won't go on holiday to anywhere that doesn't have a bath.

Violashift · 15/10/2022 18:04

I bought a house without a bath. Didn't bother us at all.

HarrietSchulenberg · 15/10/2022 18:05

I would be put off buying anywhere without a bath as I would have to fork out to install one as soon as I moved in.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 15/10/2022 18:05

I'd prefer not to have a bath, I'd rather just have a larger shower. I had a new bathroom put in with a bath/shower over the bath. I regret it. Wish I'd just had a walk in shower.

Testng123 · 15/10/2022 18:06

I insisted on getting a bath. We used it about twice a year...it still needs to be cleaned every week. Wouldn't bother next time.

HighlandPony · 15/10/2022 18:07

It depends on the property. Small non family type house or flat or elderly persons type bungalow would be fine but if it’s a family sized house then it would be.

Kite22 · 15/10/2022 18:08

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath, unless it were a huge bargain.
I'd need to recoup not only the cost of redoing the bathroom but also the hassle of having to get it done on top of the hassle of moving house.

But are you actually thinking of selling the house? If not, do what suits you although I am surprised 'no bath' is the preferred option when dc are so young

BotterMon · 15/10/2022 18:09

I have removed all baths and only have showers - one normal and two wet rooms. A house with a bath would put me off as would have to rip it out and replace with walk in shower/wet room.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/10/2022 18:10

We have taken our bath out. We have no plans for moving so have gone for what we want and need over what a future buyer might want. And with two girls rapidly approaching teens... thats a decent shower!

Redglitter · 15/10/2022 18:10

I'd love a big walk in shower rather than a bath

Unless your selling in the next couple of years do what suits you and your family. Not some non existent future buyer (who may also prefer showers)

fallfallfall · 15/10/2022 18:10

it depends on if your house is your home or a short-term investment. if you are staying put for the next 30+ years you need to make the space work for you. if your busy climbing the real estate ladder and this is a temporary investment 5-7 years then leave it.

MassiveSalad22 · 15/10/2022 18:12

Hmm ok, seems a bath is preferred as I suspected. It does make sense and the kids do like a bath. Hmph. We will move eventually but planning a big extension before then so will be here for a fair chunk of time. Currently the classic 3 bed semi (2 doubles one box) and small upstairs bathroom. Extension will add downstairs loo and an en-suite shower room (and a bedroom and kitchen and utility). Anyway. Build is taking ages so wanting to redo current bathroom now as getting fed up.

Depends as PP have said on whether you plan to sell or not! DP and I wouldn't have bought a house without a bath because DP likes a bath. If there are two bathrooms, no problem having one with no bath and one with, as the bath will probably get less use than the shower. In our house there's only one bathroom so it's a no brainer having a bath since it's the best of both worlds to have a bath with a shower over it.

chipsandpeas · 15/10/2022 18:12

it would put me off but only if there was no space to re add a bath in

pimlicoanna · 15/10/2022 18:13

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath. I hate baths but my kids love them

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 15/10/2022 18:14

We bought a house with no bath. Didn’t bother me at all, I liked having more space in the bathroom. I got a fold up baby bath for dd who was 11 months when we moved in which she used in the shower for a proper splash. She still liked playing in the fold up bath until she was around 5!!

Bestcatmum · 15/10/2022 18:19

I am replacing my bath with a big walk in shower. I've had one bath in the last year. I plan to re sell the house in a few years and I dont care.
