Is no bath really such a problem?

We have kids 7, 5 and 6 months and we wouldn’t mind no bath, but thinking of if we sell the house?

The 2 youngest do enjoy a bath admittedly but the bathroom is tiny and I’m desperate for more space! Could get a deep shower tray for the baby to splash around in. Or get a tiny bath, but to me those would be more off putting than no bath?

Our youngest hates showers. If we were in a position to buy we wouldn't touch a property without a bath (based on the assumption we'd be stretched to the hilt just buying so wouldn't have extra money to refit a bathroom).

Blossomandbee · 15/10/2022 18:32

My DC are older and still enjoy playing in the bath. I can't imagine how well showering such a young baby would work.
You also can't beat a bath if you're really cold, achey or poorly, so I would always want the option even though I mostly shower.

Pixiedust1234 · 15/10/2022 18:33

I am dismissing any property without a bath atm. I'm disabled and need one, and I have zero interest in putting one back in considering you can't find tradesmen anymore. We do have a shower over our bath which is the best of both worlds imo.

AnotherEmma · 15/10/2022 18:38

I'm in a similar situation; 3 bed semi with 2 doubles, a box room and small bathroom. Also planning extension and loft conversion. We already have a downstairs loo. Loft conversion will add a large double bedroom and ensuite shower room (I want a lovely big walk-in shower). My DC are 5 and 2 and they really enjoy baths so I won't be getting rid of the bath in our main bathroom. In fact, previous owner had put in a small bath - we hadn't realised it was smaller than standard when we viewed the house - and I will be replacing it with a full-size bath when we do our work. The short bath is not comfortable for adults (well, adults of average or above average height) and I don't think my tall 5yo will be able to stretch out comfortably in it for that much longer.

Sorry that was long but I think you should keep the bath.

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2022 18:38

Wouldn't consider a house without a bath. I have done in the past and put one in later but now I'm of an age where I don't drink or smoke, don't eat sugar bar high days and holidays and a hot bath is a bloody pleasure I refuse to go without.

Flowerfairy101 · 15/10/2022 18:41

We bought somewhere without a bath and are having one put back in. Mainly because of 2 year old DD, we have one of those toddler baths but she hates it and it takes up space in the bathroom. It wasn't a deal breaker when buying the house but we'd always planned on getting one put back in.

I would be more put off to see a bath and not a
Walk in shower.

PunchyAnts · 15/10/2022 18:48

I wouldn't buy a house with no bath. I could put one in, but that wouldn't help me after a long day of moving house when all I want before bed is a hot bath!

BemusedBrenda · 15/10/2022 18:50

I've seen a few of these threads on MN, and I honestly think MN just attracts an odd, bath-loving demographic. In real life I only know of two people who enjoy baths. i think they're a bit of an old fashioned legacy item for the vast majority of people who shower daily. We replaced the only bath in our current house with a luxurious walk in shower, and if we ever moved again I'd certainly be stripping the bath out of any new house because they're a waste of space and as PP noted, need cleaning whether you use then or not.

WakingUpDistress · 15/10/2022 18:52

At home, I’m the only one who uses the bath.
And I only do so because the heat of warm/hot Bath eases my pain.

If I wasn’t I’ll, I would have chosen a bigger walking shower rather than a Bath/shower combo.
If there was no space of both a Bath and a shower, I would have preferred a shower only Wo a doubt.

I get how a Bath is helpful with babies and young children. So I suspect it depends a lot on the type of people who are more likely to buy your house when you get to sell it.

Bookishandblondish · 15/10/2022 18:53

My shower leaked and it took months to get a new shower cubicle sorted due to supply chain issues.

After that, I refused to consider any house without both a bath and shower ( I only had one bathroom). Multiple showers, not an issue but I wouldn’t have had an easy way to wash without the bath.

Marthaandthemuffins · 15/10/2022 18:53

We replaced our bath for a large walk-in shower. No regrets at all as we very rarely used the bath. We have no plans to sell our home any time soon, so we’re sorted.

Netflixandaps · 15/10/2022 18:54

Absolutely no way.

WakingUpDistress · 15/10/2022 18:55

I’m finding it inetresting to see how many people say they can’t do Wo a Bath.

And then you read threads in the cost of living, protecting the environment and everyone is up in arms if you have more than a 5 mins vaguely warm shower. Let alone a BATH!!! how dare you!!!

It’s different group of people answering 🤪🤪🤪

windowwhy · 15/10/2022 18:57

Our house doesn't have a bath and I didn't think twice about it when buying it, but I do think it would be a pain and we'll need to think about putting one in if/when we have kids. DSD was old enough when we moved to just shower

DonttouchthatLarry · 15/10/2022 18:57

I use the shower for keeping myself clean but need a bath for soaking aching muscles. There wasn't one in our house when we bought it but the bathroom needed updating anyway so that was the first job we did, adding a bath. No bath wouldn't put me off if the house was right.

Floralnomad · 15/10/2022 19:01

I wouldn’t buy a house without a bath unless the bathroom looked big enough to add one in , which does not sound like the case here .

QuebecBagnet · 15/10/2022 19:01

I am actually thinking of replacing our bath with a small bath so we can have a bigger shower. We never use the bath apart from for the dog.

DashboardConfessional · 15/10/2022 19:04

Absolute non-negotiable in our house.

Parker231 · 15/10/2022 19:07

Although we have a bath when DT’s were tiny we usually took them into the shower with us - much quicker.

Newpuppymummy · 15/10/2022 19:08

I wouldn’t buy a house without a bath. I think your limiting your market

IncessantNameChanger · 15/10/2022 19:13

I boughtba housecwithout a bath but with every intention of replacing the entire bathroom. The house was amazing so that swung over the bathroom cost ( which we did for under 4k)

Roselilly36 · 15/10/2022 19:27

It wouldn’t put me off, I am disabled, a shower is much easier for me. But I think the lack of a bath, could put buyers off, when you come to sell.

Dragonsbe · 15/10/2022 19:28

I don't understand what the big deal is - putting in a bath is surely as easy and cheap as putting in a wardrobe when you buy a house? I have one, never use it, and would like to replace with a shower and bidet. If the next buyer didn'n like that set up they could just put a bath back in?

Whiskeypowers · 15/10/2022 19:30

I love a bath and if I bought a house without one having one installed would be first on the list
