Is no bath really such a problem?

We have kids 7, 5 and 6 months and we wouldn’t mind no bath, but thinking of if we sell the house?

The 2 youngest do enjoy a bath admittedly but the bathroom is tiny and I’m desperate for more space! Could get a deep shower tray for the baby to splash around in. Or get a tiny bath, but to me those would be more off putting than no bath?

How the other half live eh?

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath. But there are many people who wouldn't be bothered about it.

asdadult · 16/10/2022 21:04

I couldn't do without a bath. I suffer with pain due to disabilities and I sleep so much better after a long hot soak. I do shower in the morning but twice a week bath is a real treat for me and really helps my pain levels.

@Colderthanever ??????

Hmm I have lots of aches and pains, maybe I should start having baths!! I really hate them though. I always get cold so quickly. All 3 kids had a lovely bath tonight so I don’t know! It’s a lot of water for a few mins really.

We are in the same situation and installing a very low American-style bath. We also have in mind we might get a dog in the future and need to bathe it.

Googling this!

@YesItsMeYesItsMe Here are some photos (neither of which are my bathroom!).

You can buy inflatable baths now.

what a time to be alive.

SpaceyCake · 17/10/2022 13:50

We bought a house with no bath and it's fine. Tbf I'm from a country where people don't have baths so it's not really something I ever got used to. DC would like a splash but is enjoying our nice warm shower, and I've promised them that I'd look into these inflatable ones. 😂

Thank you! Google wasn’t very helpful. I love those!!

We recently moved into a house with no bath. We got one of these and the children love it.

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath ..unless we paid less the cost of getting the bathroom sorted ...say £8000 'off'

Baggingarea · 17/10/2022 21:20

Low baths sound intriguing but where can u get one in the UK??

mobear · 22/10/2022 14:59

@Baggingarea The only readily available one I’ve been able to find so far is the Bette Ocean Lowline.

Baggingarea · 22/10/2022 15:49

@mobear that's so funny I discovered bette baths last night!! Get out my brain!

mobear · 22/10/2022 15:52

@Baggingarea How funny! You can get a white waste to match the bath which also acts as a bath filler, if you want to keep it really discreet, then have a diverter on the overhead shower controls.

fanontonight · 22/10/2022 16:02

We have recently had our bathroom done and taken our bath out. None of us had used the bath since my son was 2 (he's now 11) so we decided to remove and have a larger walk in shower, we have left all the plumbing in to put a bath back in if you change our minds in the future

TomAllenWife · 22/10/2022 16:15

It's a dealbreaker for me

ReadyForPumpkins · 22/10/2022 16:28

I never bath! Hates it. The water gets cold and becomes unpleasant. If I want hot water I stand in the shower for longer. What is amazing is mains pressure hot water. We changed our water cylinder to an unvented one and showers are now as good as those in hotels.

Glitterandmud · 22/10/2022 16:44

No bath wouldn't put me off, as long as the shower is decent.

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 15/05/2023 23:29

The more liberating piece of advice I was given about this was “Do as you please, bathrooms go out of fashion so quickly you may refurbish it one more time before you move on”

IWantRebeccasConfidence · 15/05/2023 23:33

Who gives a shit what other people want, if you want no bath do that. You can change if need to sell or buyers can. I’d go for one of the those small square deep/tall Japanese style baths and bigger separate shower.

BemusedBrenda · 15/10/2022 18:50

I've seen a few of these threads on MN, and I honestly think MN just attracts an odd, bath-loving demographic. In real life I only know of two people who enjoy baths. i think they're a bit of an old fashioned legacy item for the vast majority of people who shower daily. We replaced the only bath in our current house with a luxurious walk in shower, and if we ever moved again I'd certainly be stripping the bath out of any new house because they're a waste of space and as PP noted, need cleaning whether you use then or not.

Exactly this ^

Baths are a huge waste of water and energy, not to mention time. We’ve just finished a substantial extension and we now have no baths at all, but 3 kick ass walk in showers. It’s bliss.

As we need to reduce carbon emissions and stop wasting water, we should all be switching to short showers. It’s a very easy change.

Brokendaughter · 16/05/2023 00:31

The one time I bought a house without a bath I ended up booking into hotels just to have a soak from time to time until I could get one fitted.

Wouldn't even consider a house without one now.
