How do you cope with the stress of moving house?

We're on a tight chain. If we don't exchange and complete within the next 2.5 weeks we'll lose our buyer as their mortgage lender won't give any more extensions to their offer (there have been endless complex delays with the paper work and we lost our onward purchAse so it's all take months)
It's touch and go whether or not we'll get moved or the whole thing will collapse.
I haven't actually slept for NIGHTS now. I'm exhausted and totally wired. I'm spending all my days on endless phone calls feeling frustrated and my work is suffering too.
We have two kids too so we still have to get them to school etc through all this. Honestly feel like I can't cope at all!!

Fingers crossed for you @RM2013

It's 3am and I'm awake again. This is doing my sleep no good at all. I'll be chasing again today if no news by midday.

Oh crikey @Expelliarmus88 - I thought living out of boxes was bad enough, but moving between bnbs sounds horrendous.

youkiddingme · 16/11/2022 03:29

cross-posted @YukoandHiro - You totally have my sympathy. Wired is exactly how I feel too. xx

Expelliarmus88 · 16/11/2022 06:19

@youkiddingme tell me about it...
Don't forget to add a 4 month old to the mix!!

I'd have give anything to be able to live out of boxes but our buyers had to move in 😩

Expelliarmus88 · 16/11/2022 06:19

Given*

And agreed with the sleepless nights. Not like I get much sleep anyway but now I can't even sleep when my baby sleeps!!

youkiddingme · 16/11/2022 16:38

We've tried chasing through both the EA and solicitor today. We are told that the other two people in the chain are also chasing and pressing the one at the bottom who is holding things up. Still no response from that solicitor other than 'we are still progressing matters.' What are you supposed to do when they just won't tell anyone anything? We're running out of time to exchange now. Again. We've been at this since early May altogether.

RM2013 · 16/11/2022 19:23

@Expelliarmus88 no I’ve never contacted my buyers solicitors directly but I do contact the buyers directly as we sold via online agent so have an online portal we can communicate with each other on. It’s been pretty useful as they message us or vice versa when something needs chasing with solicitors and the post sales support from the EA has been zero

RM2013 · 16/11/2022 19:24

Putting my hand up to the not sleeping too!!!!

i end up googling into the early hours or try and sleep and can’t - not good when I have work the next day

I feel constantly on edge and wired

youkiddingme · 21/11/2022 19:16

Utterly frustrating day. We were supposed to exchange today. Went in and signed. Waited ... At half four the bottom of the chain said they still have some queries. 😡

RM2013 · 21/11/2022 19:20

@youkiddingme that’s so frustrating- have they said how long the enquiries might take?

youkiddingme · 21/11/2022 19:27

No @RM2013 - It was the Bottom of chain who suggested the completion date. 3 wks ago. Then silence. Their solicitor responds to nothing. We heard ten days ago from the solicitor above them that all queries had been answered. Late Friday Bottom sent out documents to exchange today. Everybody ready. Heard nothing from them all day. Half 4 today they finally responded to the solicitor above them saying they still have outstanding queries. That solicitor says they have resent each and every response.

Sorry to hear you're all still in this maddening position! We did get into our house three weeks ago but I'm still not recovered from the stress of it all and not sleeping.
We're about to get decorators in so will be camping all over the house soon. No point trying to get any rest til after xmas.
Crossing my fingers that all your chains hang together. It's the worst thing. The system is so broken.

@YukoandHiro thank you. I agree it really is a dreadful system and causes so much stress. I hope you feel more settled in your new home soon

youkiddingme · 21/11/2022 23:43

Thanks @YukoandHiro - I'm totally with you on the stress. I'm so exhausted I don't know how I'm going to keep going like this. My health is rubbish to start with and this is just making it worse. I'm wrecked. Hope you feel better soon.

windysocks · 22/11/2022 08:50

Update: finally exchanged yesterday, moving today! After 9 months it's been a whirlwind the last few days . Totally underestimated how long it takes to pack up a house!

RM2013 · 22/11/2022 13:29

@youkiddingme the stress is awful. I’m not sleeping well and find it so hard to focus on anything but this blooming house move 🙈

RM2013 · 22/11/2022 13:29

@windysocks congrats on your exchange I hope the packing is going well (dreading this part!)

YukoandHiro · 22/11/2022 13:30

@windysocks Congratulations! Hope moving day is going smoothly

windysocks · 22/11/2022 13:56

Thankyou @YukoandHiro it's really hard work and I feel quite tearful 😢 unexpectedly

BabyPotato · 22/11/2022 15:10

@windysocks Congratulations! I think moving days are hard! You have so much crap to shift and movers waiting to leave and last minute things to sort out. And then suddenly you're in a strange house that isn't a home yet. But you'll get there!

Took us 18 months to sell and buy and I was a wreck on moving day. Two months on I'm still a bit stressed but getting there.

youkiddingme · 22/11/2022 15:38

Congrats @windysocks 👏

youkiddingme · 22/11/2022 20:01

Another day of no response from the bottom of the chain. We're supposed to complete on Monday - the date they asked for. We have disabilities and health issues and cannot physically do everything that needs doing without adequate notice. It's really pushing it for us now and they won't engage to reset the date.

Stayingstrongish · 23/11/2022 06:05

Can I join in with the house moving stress solidarity…

I’m a single mum with two young kids (6 & 2) after ex husband left. Simultaneously going through divorce and house sale!

So far have had two offers put in and then withdrawn a couple of days later. Another offer from someone who turned out to need to sell multiple houses first. Now on an offer about 8% under asking price but at least they’re chain free.

I have found a lovely little house in the area I want, terrified it will all fall through as there’s not many nice ones about within my budget.

CrispsnDips · 23/11/2022 07:10

Can relate to the stress…hope you feel more settled soon Yuko …

I can’t even begin to explain the unbelievable hassle we had - even the Estate Agents said they couldn’t believe the amount of setbacks we had, it was one of the worse ones they had encountered…

But we eventually moved into our dream home and it was all worth it in the end …

Good luck everyone!

ThorsBedazzler · 23/11/2022 09:25

Can I join? We are moving on Friday. Removals coming today to pack up. I am so worried something will go wrong, I know its my anxieties messing with me though.

I'm not sleeping, not from the stress (or not just from it) but because my youngest has a cold and is coming into my bed in the middle of the night so he can rotate beside me for hours.

Plus I managed to have a king size wooden headboard land in the sole of my foot yesterday which is... not fun.

I feel like vomiting.

youkiddingme · 23/11/2022 09:51

Good luck moving forward @Stayingstrongish
Nearly there @ThorsBedazzler - hang in there and good luck.
