How do you cope with the stress of moving house?

We're on a tight chain. If we don't exchange and complete within the next 2.5 weeks we'll lose our buyer as their mortgage lender won't give any more extensions to their offer (there have been endless complex delays with the paper work and we lost our onward purchAse so it's all take months)
It's touch and go whether or not we'll get moved or the whole thing will collapse.
I haven't actually slept for NIGHTS now. I'm exhausted and totally wired. I'm spending all my days on endless phone calls feeling frustrated and my work is suffering too.
We have two kids too so we still have to get them to school etc through all this. Honestly feel like I can't cope at all!!

Sorry to hear @RM2013 and @hanna65

So frustrating having to wait around especially in this economic climate. We are hopefully exchanging on our sale but we haven't heard about when we can on our purchase. So stressful as we are moving next week into temp accomm with no certainty! I'm so stressed but trying to remain calm

RM2013 · 10/11/2022 14:21

@Expelliarmus88 its very frustrating. We are trying to tie up dates for our sale and purchase to complete. I have buyers and vendors chasing me for a completion date which I can’t give them as solicitors are still saying every are reviewing the enquiries for our purchase. My stress levels are through the roof right now and I really wanted to relax and enjoy this weekend as it’s my eldest 18th birthday today but instead I just feel fed up.
hope you hear some news on your purchase soon too and good luck with the temp move

Expelliarmus88 · 10/11/2022 17:50

So sorry to hear that @RM2013 :( Hopefully the 18th is a good distraction for you!!

We have officially exchanged on our sale...5 mins before closing time...how ridiculous! I'm still anxious however as I am yet to hear about purchase and how long that will take!

FuzzyPuffling · 10/11/2022 19:16

Sending St Anne type vibes for everyone caught up in the hell of house purchase. Here's to a successful and speedy conclusion for you all.
Happy 18th birthday to your eldest, RM2013

We completed today! Currently sitting in the new house and very happy. In the end completion all went super smoothly (bar my frantic 1am cleaning of our old house yesterday 🤣), and we've managed to get several rooms unpacked and sorted. Couple of minor hiccups - the previous owners seem to have taken up chain smoking in every room of the house since we offered as it smelled fine when we looked around but like an ash tray today when we moved in. We've had the windows open all afternoon and it's improved a fair bit, fortunately. Also, the wardrobes we spent a lot of money on 3 months ago turned out to be too tall for any of the rooms, which DH, having spent hours taking them all to bits yesterday, ferrying them around in the van, then bringing all the respective parts into the house only to have to take them out again was pretty unamused about, but never mind! Lesson learned that going back to measure up before completion is a good idea if you can!

Sending all the positive exchange and completion vibes to anyone still waiting. Our lead up to exchange was awful, but the rest has been pretty smooth. Hopefully you will all be in soon! 🤞🤞🤞

FuzzyPuffling · 11/11/2022 06:46

Oooh toastfiend hurrah hurrah and so pleased it all went smoothly for you.
We are T-5 today ( to our completion) but have to have everything packed by Monday as 95% of stuff is going on Tuesday. Almost there....

RM2013 · 11/11/2022 08:52

@Expelliarmus88 congrats on the exchange that’s great news

@FuzzyPuffling good luck with the packing - not long to go now

@toastfiend congrats on the completion - sorry to hear about the wardrobes - definitely a good tip to check sizes!

well yesterday we had a lovely day celebrating DS1’s 18th birthday with family and as it’s my Dad’s today we are having a meal out together later. It’s been a welcome distraction from all the stress. However I have a few days off work so want to keep busy getting done any little jobs o can

YukoandHiro · 11/11/2022 14:35

Congratulations @toastfiend - hope the new house feels great. We've been in ours a fortnight and frankly it's still a sea of boxes and I'm not feeling very settled yet. Going to plough through some decorating before Xmas and hopefully it'll feel a bit better after that

YukoandHiro · 11/11/2022 14:35

@Expelliarmus88 have you exchanged on your purchase yet? It's all so nail biting!

BarkerBump · 14/11/2022 01:07

We have a bit of progress here, we're exchanging on our sale today! Completion date will then be set for 30th November, and we only accepted the offer on 12th September. Unfortunately no movement yet on our purchase, the vendors are taking an age to get the responses to enquiries back, so at this point we're moving in with my parents at the end of the month for an indeterminate amount of time Confused

youkiddingme · 14/11/2022 01:14

It's a nightmare. We were supposed to complete two months ago and it fell through the day before exchange. We're almost back to the same point again with a new buyer for the house that fell through further down the chain. The endless delays are making everyone twitchy. Our seller keeps threatening to pull out if it takes any longer. I'm between one person who does everything at snail's pace and another who sends at least one email a day chasing it via the solicitor. We've been living out of boxes for weeks since we got it nearly all packed up. I haven't a clue where half my stuff is and my warm clothes are packed up.

YukoandHiro · 14/11/2022 04:52

@youkiddingme oh my god poor you - the living out of boxes but is the absolute worst.

The stress of it all is really damaging. We've been in our new place 2 weeks and I'm still a total mess. Partly because we bought a fixer upper so nothing is very comfortable and it won't be for a while. We're also finding endless problems that weren't noticed by the surveyor so the stress seems to heighten rather than reduce each day. Really hoping to feels a bit calmer by Xmas

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 09:54

@youkiddingme that sounds very stressful. Let’s hope the person slowing you all down sorts themselves out soon

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 09:55

@YukoandHiro oh no that sounds stressful. I hope that you feel a lot
more settled by Christmas. Frustrating when you take on a job which is bigger than you have expected

youkiddingme · 14/11/2022 09:55

Oh dear, @YukoandHiro . I'm expecting similar tbh if we ever get moved. We know there's work to do. Hopefully, you've reached the worst of it now. Our daughter moved into her first home in the summer, and the first few weeks were utterly stressful, but she did have major work to get done which meant she couldn't get far with unpacking and cleaning etc. The biggest jobs are done now and she's feeling a lot calmer. I'm sure you'll get there.

BarkerBump · 14/11/2022 19:23

@YukoandHiro oh that does sounds stressful. I'm expecting the same when we get into ours to be honest, there was a few little bits on the Level 3 survey we had done but I don't put much stock in the surveyors capabilities to be honest (but that's a whole other thread).

We've exchanged on our sale and just need to get all the "moving out of a house" jobs done now, the packing and utilities etc, ready to move in with my family. Just waiting on the searches on our purchase and hopefully if they come back all good then we'll get move in before Christmas.

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 20:53

@BarkerBump great news on your sale that’s pretty speedy. Hope your purchase isn’t too much longer before you can exchange

youkiddingme · 14/11/2022 21:01

Congrats on the sale @BarkerBump

FuzzyPuffling · 15/11/2022 07:45

95% of our worldly goods are going in the van today. We'll have the bed, telly and cats left until tomorrow. 😮

youkiddingme · 15/11/2022 15:47

So excited for you @FuzzyPuffling

So sick of waiting to hear something now. The searches, surveys, and query answers were all sorted on the house at the bottom of the chain the week before last. And all we keep getting is 'matters are progressing'. Meanwhile our sellers keep threatening to pull out if they don't get an exchange date yesterday.

RM2013 · 15/11/2022 15:54

@FuzzyPuffling how exciting not long to wait now

@youkiddingme snap I am totally fed up with waiting now. Last contact was on Friday when they were apparently sorting the final enquiry that has been going backwards and forwards between ours and our buyers solicitors for over a week now. Re: purchase last contact was Thursday and they said they’d be in touch nonce they had any updates 😬😬😬

RM2013 · 15/11/2022 16:10

In touch once!!! Typo sorry 😣

I got fed up and chased both solicitors - I know they said they would contact me when they have news but I need an idea of dates to try and book time off work and arrange removals along with the million other jobs that I need to do

FuzzyPuffling · 15/11/2022 16:26

Fingers crossed for RM2013 and anyone else on this horrendous merry go round.

I hope St Anne is looking upon you kindly!

Expelliarmus88 · 16/11/2022 01:49

@YukoandHiro not exchanged on purchase yet and the air bnb we are staying in runs out in a few weeks...I can't deal with another move that's not into the house!

Is it faux pas to contact the sellers lawyers directly ?! Or does it HAVE to be via my lawyer? Essentially waiting for them to get a response from their purchase but I am so fed up of moving now Sad

Expelliarmus88 · 16/11/2022 02:02

@BarkerBump similar situation to you having split sale and purchase!

@RM2013 so frustrating isn't it!! Did you contact the buyers solicitors directly? I have never contacted any other solicitors except our own but I really want to !!
