Not a great reputation tbh, there is actually a complaints group on FB for them. I would go for a small local company, better service etc.

Teenyliving · 27/09/2022 06:05

@silkpashmina sh thanks for that - I did wonder. Local company is a good idea.

I’ve just had a nightmare with curry’s about an oven and couldn’t face another problem with a big company

thanks!

Definitely one to avoid. The sent a high pressure sales person to my disabled mil and were massively overpriced. Luckily we were able to cancel.
Ask on local Facebook groups for local recommendations

FlorrieFosdyke · 27/09/2022 06:17

I actually had a great experience with Hilary Blinds. I think they operate like a franchise so it might vary from area to area. We are south west London.
We had shutters fitted in several rooms. They were fitted beautifully and we had no problems.

Sestriere · 27/09/2022 06:27

I’ve used them a couple of times, they’re expensive and dont have a lot of choice. I also used a local company, they mis measured twice and the blinds jammed.

The last few times I have measured myself (including plantation shutters) and ordered online and then got out local handyman to fit. Saved a fortune.

recklessgran · 27/09/2022 06:34

Awful experience here too so no I definitely wouldn't recommend. £340 charged for a 3ft roman blind, I kid you not. I only had them because I needed navy velvet for a very awkward window to finish off our sitting room and our usual local firm couldn't do it as they didn't carry velvet as an option. NEVER again!

BBCK · 27/09/2022 06:37

I used them after getting a few quotes and found the competitive with a wide choice. We had several rollers and Venetians and all were well fitted with no hard sell which surprised me.

crossstitchingnana · 27/09/2022 06:40

Got some wooden Venetian blinds 15 years ago. Apart from a little rain damage to the wood (stupidly left window open in a storm) they are absolutely fine.

stickybear · 27/09/2022 06:41

I've had great experiences with Hillary's, they're really quick and I didn't think they were too expensive. They always have sales / discounts on so you'll never pay full price.

coronafiona · 27/09/2022 06:44

Yes, had no problem and they sorted out the chain I wasn't happy with very quickly. They were expensive though I got it half price on an offer it was still £600 (3 yrs ago)

Roselilly36 · 27/09/2022 06:44

I have found Hillary’s excellent in the past, yes, I agree they are expensive, but it’s two visits one to measure, one to fit. I had a problem with one of my rollers blinds many years after they fitted it, and they still sent the part I needed free of charge, which was brilliant. I would use them again.

anotherscroller · 27/09/2022 06:44

@Sestriere can i ask which online sellers you used that were good? Currently in a whirl of eBay/Etsy and don’t know who to choose

BearPear · 27/09/2022 06:45

We used them at our old house and also when we moved. I knew exactly what I wanted so there was no conversation/sales chat. I found them to be reasonably priced and a reliable service.
i suppose I could have measured & ordered online from elsewhere but getting a tradesman to fit them is easier said than done.

HuntingoftheSnark · 27/09/2022 06:53

I had a great experience with them too. I'm in Kent and agree that it must vary depending on location. I found them reasonably priced but obtained other quotes and bargained them down a bit.

UseOfWeapons · 27/09/2022 07:10

I had a good experience with them. Had several large windows and Venetian blinds fitted, and some heavy curtains. They sent the wrong colour of curtains at fitting, orange instead of white(!), but rectified it. No mess, no fuss, and reasonable prices compared with local companies.

Beebumble2 · 27/09/2022 07:33

We’ve had a whole house fitted with blinds from Blinds2go. Fantastic choices, very reasonable.
The blinds on our huge picture windows have been there 10 years and still as good as new.
You do have to fit them yourself, but loads of on line support.

Ahbisto · 27/09/2022 07:40

We also used Blinds2Go and are in a listed building, if you can fit yourself I recommend. I’d not touch Hilary’s , they are incredibly Expensive v the competition and I personally found the sales men rude.

AllThatHoopla · 27/09/2022 07:42

I've used them twice and found them excellent. Not pushy and very knowledgable. I suppose it depends completely on who is your local person though.

I went to a local independent place first and their quote was more expensive.

pompomdaisy · 27/09/2022 07:48

Dunelm- great blinds. Low price.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/09/2022 08:15

I used them 11 years ago to get blinds for my whole house. It was a husband and wife who had our local franchise and they were excellent. I'm changing them all now because we have had new windows put in but all the blinds we had were excellent quality and none needed replaced in that time.

WonderingWanda · 27/09/2022 08:15

We had measured up and asked for a quote from them. They insisted that they had to come out. They price was extortionate and they justified it by saying that they measure up for you which took all of about 20 mins. We used blinds to go instead. They will send out samples and cost half the price but their customer service was crap.

Teenyliving · 27/09/2022 08:38

Thanks all. I can’t fit myself and would need to get a handywoman which can be hit and miss

it sounds franchise dependent and I’m in Kent so fingers crossed!

am also calling local people this morning.

it just three windows and I want blackout blinds - any idea of about what I should be spending for all in including installation???

We have a window in spare room, top hinge, outward opening. Bloke from Hillarys measured, installed, window wouldn't close. Eventually got manager round,he said we should never have been sold this particular blind. Can't remember cost, but hugely expensive. Big lounge window, almost wall to wall, floor to ceiling,blinds2go. It's a vision blind, tiny pin holes so when closed you can see out but not in.

Mostly blinds2go. You can have six samples sent home. I’ve ordered blinds for my house, DDs and mums, they are fairly quick arrive when they say they will.

anotherscroller · 28/09/2022 06:25

Thanks 👌
