How long has your house purchase taken [so far]??

I had an offer accepted in mid-June; no chain. I've had my mortgage offer through and the survey done. There is an issue with ownership of an outbuilding so the vendors are sorting that out with the Land Registry. Searches not done yet but unlikely to be anything tricky there.

I'm hoping that I might be in by the end of October but realistically who knows. I've no idea how long the LR are taking to process casework at the moment. Once that's sorted it should all be pretty quick.

My solicitor passed on my message that I would pull out if my buyer insisted on getting the DOV done before completion, and it worked because we exchanged this morning!

RidingMyBike · 25/11/2022 12:45

Yay congratulations @hanna65

pavillion1 · 25/11/2022 13:28

Thank you, I may actually be able to sleep tonight now! Horrendous week.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/11/2022 19:37

Just managed to get back online (BT technical cock up in new house so they had to send me a mini hub) to hear of all your horrendous difficulties. I'm so sorry things are not easier for several of you...you are most certainly in my thoughts and prayers.

New house is fraught with undisclosed issues...shower leaks and will only run cold, kitchen sink leaks, everything is filthy (we even got left a turd in one of the loos!) But we are getting there...lots of cleaning, help from handy son in law and I have phoned Wickes today to get a new bathroom.

RM2013 · 25/11/2022 19:54

@FuzzyPuffling I was wondering how you were getting on. Glad you’re all moved in but no great news about the leaks and other issues. Hope you can manage to get them sorted soon

RM2013 · 25/11/2022 19:54

No news here today so guessing that solicitors haven’t received the transfer paperwork they need from the previous owner and the outstanding enquiries. Oh well that’s another week gone!

FuzzyPuffling · 25/11/2022 20:28

The turd was easily flushed away!

movingonup2022 · 26/11/2022 13:04

@FuzzyPuffling similar happened to us. We got our keys and realised the upstairs loo didn’t flush, one radiator didn’t work, the heating only comes on if the hot water is also on, and the bath panel was broken. The plumber bill was £800!!! Not what you want when you’ve just paid all the moving costs… the house was also filthy. I’ve got major buyers remorse tbh, this weekend I’m cleaning the house I’ve rented for 9 years ready to hand the keys back and I feel so sad to be letting it go. I have to remind myself that at least we are now homeowners regardless of the state of the place!

hope all who are waiting for news get some movement soon!

FuzzyPuffling · 26/11/2022 15:39

I left an immaculate and working house to come to this one.
But then again, I have left the toxic neighbours, the planning applications both sides and the remote location behind.
Stuff can be fixed in time.

BabyPotato · 26/11/2022 15:48

If it makes you feel any better, we left behind an immaculate and clean, modern house and moved into one that needs so much more work than we thought. The roof was leaking and the electrics were fucked and the plumbing is... Very interesting, to put it mildly. Every job has a million little or larger jobs behind it and it's getting expensive! We've managed to redecorate a couple of rooms now and it's starting to look a bit better, thank god. Just try and focus on the positives if you can! Like I keep reminding myself that we have an absolutely massive garden now. Haha.

dubyalass · 26/11/2022 18:53

I've been having relentless palpitations the past couple of days. There are other stressors at the moment, not least my job, and I imagine perimenopause and iron deficiency have something to do with it, but still - it's a bit of a warning sign that it's all getting a bit much.

RM2013 · 26/11/2022 19:00

Sorry to hear those of you that have moved have had some issues. I’m sure we will be the same when we move but I’m sure all will come good with time

@dubyalass definitely get your iron levels checked out. Stress can manifest itself in lots of different ways. I’ve been exactly the same and also had a conversation at work only the other day to say my anxiety is a lot worse and I think it’s the peri menopause. Already on HRT but think the dose might need adjusting. Arrrrggghh

dubyalass · 26/11/2022 19:07

@RM2013 I'm sorry you're having the same issues! Going to call the GP on Monday and see if I can get my levels tested again. I've started back on the iron tablets but I think work and house stress are the main problem. I don't feel very resilient at the moment.

OP posts:
RidingMyBike · 26/11/2022 20:06

Have you tried Spatone @dubyalass? It's iron water sachets you add to orange juice - much more easily absorbed than iron tablets and helps avoid the side effects of those!

dubyalass · 26/11/2022 21:24

I have, but it's my ferritin rather than haemoglobin that's the problem, so I have to go for the heavy duty stuff to get back up to normal levels. I think I was down at 4 last time I got tested a couple of years ago so the GP put me on ferrous sulphate for three months. Having periods every three weeks isn't helping 😬

OP posts:
RidingMyBike · 26/11/2022 22:45

Oh grim, the last thing you need on top of all the house stuff!

dubyalass · 26/11/2022 23:30

I know, crap isn't it! At least the low ferritin is easy to resolve, unlike the house and work shite 😁

It’s almost the start of a new week. Fingers crossed for some news for those waiting on exchange and completion this week. Good luck for anyone who has completion this week

FuzzyPuffling · 27/11/2022 19:48

Rooting for you all.
New week, maybe new houses?

Beach1983 · 27/11/2022 21:06

@BabyPotato exactly the same situation as you! Moved from an immaculate new build to an older house with wayyyyyy more issues than we thought but the garden is huge and beautiful and when I feel overwhelmed by the house I stand in the garden and remember why we purchased it!

pavillion1 · 28/11/2022 11:37

🤞🤞🤞 for everyone this week .

BabyPotato · 28/11/2022 13:29

@Beach1983 It sucks doesn't it? I feel that I'm being ungrateful because conveyancing took ages and we were really lucky to complete when we did (pre mini budget), but I'm definitely getting pangs of "what have we done". I was watching DC play football in the garden yesterday though and felt a bit better about it all. Just need to continue chipping away at the various jobs!
