How long has your house purchase taken [so far]??

I had an offer accepted in mid-June; no chain. I've had my mortgage offer through and the survey done. There is an issue with ownership of an outbuilding so the vendors are sorting that out with the Land Registry. Searches not done yet but unlikely to be anything tricky there.

I'm hoping that I might be in by the end of October but realistically who knows. I've no idea how long the LR are taking to process casework at the moment. Once that's sorted it should all be pretty quick.

That’s great news @pavillion1

fingers crossed for early exchange - when are you hoping to complete?

RM2013 · 11/11/2022 14:51

Another frustrating day. Contacted by buyers - we sold via an online EA whose post sales support is crap so we’ve been communicating via the sales app
their solicitors saying still an outstanding enquiry that our solicitor said was resolved at the beginning of the week. Not sure which is telling the truth - so frustrating

FuzzyPuffling · 11/11/2022 16:24

Argh how tremendously annoying RM. I hope they pull their fingers out and sort it!

Within the next 2 weeks , but realistically who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

dubyalass · 11/11/2022 19:06

Excellent news @pavillion1 ! No further update from my solicitors so no idea if the second title is back yet. Am thinking I might ask to combine them to avoid this ever happening again.

All of a sudden yesterday solicitors told us the chain can all move next Friday - pleases and keeping fingers crossed. Haven't packed a thing yet!

dubyalass · 12/11/2022 08:50

Fingers crossed!

Keeping everything crossed for you @windysocks

We've got our moving out date (no moving in yet) and I've started informing necessary utilities.

Just been on the phone to BT and have been told, although they can disconnect on moving day, they need 30 days notice, and therefore I'm still liable and will be billed for the account until mid December. How is this a thing when people don't get their moving dates until a week before they move???

On a positive, water was easy, gas and electric I have to do on the phone tomorrow, what's the betting they won't talk to me as the account is in DH name, even though I'm a named person on the account...

Trying to make sure I've got EVERYTHING written down, but I'm sure something is missing 🤦‍♀️ I've even gone as far as to write job lists for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm not crazy am I?

RM2013 · 13/11/2022 12:06

@SuperlativeOxymoron youve made loads of progress. Not crazy I love a good list to keep me organized plus it’s a good feeling to get the jobs ticked off!! Good to know about BT as we have our broadband with them . I’ve started making a list of things I need to do when the time comes. We haven’t got a completion date yet so a little bit in limbo.

annonymousse · 13/11/2022 12:07

17 weeks and counting. Sold my house and that took 14 weeks start to finish.

annonymousse · 13/11/2022 12:51

When my sister sold her house her buyers asked her to have the front door moved and a porch built on! She told them if that's what they wanted they could do it themselves once they were owners.

onemouseplace · 13/11/2022 14:35

Ours was 5 months between offers being accepted and exchange - and then another month to completion. The majority of the delay was our seller finding somewhere to buy/ confirming they would break the chain/ then dicking around trying to tie in the property they were buying.

sicklycolleague · 14/11/2022 15:43

well, we've exchanged... but our solicitor didn't ask us for the authority to. I am on the one hand pleased we've exchanged but also annoyed and a bit shocked as I was expecting a call. instead just had a letter effectively saying: "congrats, you've exchanged!" after the fact

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 16:26

@sicklycolleague good news that you’ve exchanged but not good that they didn’t ask for your permission first! When do you complete?

sicklycolleague · 14/11/2022 17:07

24th! We were all ready and that's fine, but I would've expected her to be clearer before binding us in to a £550k purchase. Everyone else I have spoken to has said they were called or very explicitly asked by email "are you ready to exchange" and she keeps going on about how she interpreted our correspondence this morning. She absolutely was not clear

johnworf · 14/11/2022 17:26

Offered on 12th July and moving in next week (25th November). It's taken such a long time and we're living amongst lots of boxes and hardly any furniture!

Can't wait though😀

wow that is not good! When exchange was imminent for us both me and DH had to email the solicitor to give authority, then again the next day when exchanged had been delayed. Even the EA reminded us about this. At least you are ready to go!

two weeks since we completed, we’ve been working hard painting and getting plumbers in etc as there was more to be done than we realised during our ten minute viewing in April and/or the vendor let it go to shit since they accepted our offer. Lesson learnt, always ask for a second viewing closer to exchange!

yes, she's also arguing that since my boyfriend was in cc that he had given authority, which just is not the case. We were happy to be ready but we wanted to be asked. She hasn't been apologetic about it either, and it's a pretty big thing to get wrong!

sicklycolleague · 14/11/2022 17:40

we did go for the second viewing before exchange @movingonup2022 and I'm very glad although if anything the flat is much less spacious in the cold November rather than the sunny July

congratulations on your completion though! you must at least be very happy you're in and working on it now

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 17:59

@sicklycolleague its unprofessional at the least - what it you’d have changed your mind before exchange and wanted to pull out!!
i suppose it’s done now and you can look forward to your new home

RM2013 · 14/11/2022 18:00

No news or updates on our purchase or sale
today. Desperately hoping for some idea of dates this week

sicklycolleague · 14/11/2022 18:06

I'd been emailing back and forth in the morning so she knew we would've been happy to, but I had been told there was a very explicit call / email to both of us that would be required! Just would've liked the security of knowing it was about to go through before being bound to something so big. And the solicitor keeps working from home and uncontactable by phone which is a huge nuisance
