Hello my daughter and 4 children are on council waiting list for a 4 bed property, she bid on a new build 4 bed house and was number 2 but went to 3 before closing, she is band one my question is how long would it take to hear anything? The house will be ready October. Thank you.

It will depend on how long it takes to offer it to #1 and #2 etc and how long they take to decide.
Tell her fingers crossed but bid every week anyway.

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 18:48

Yes thank you, would you know how long to be told if she has been shortlisted?

It varies in each local authority. Some even book 1# 2# 3# to view together to turn it around faster and I've known one give someone two weeks to decide!
It's very mixed.
Hope she gets good news.

Nat6999 · 23/08/2022 18:52

Normally you hear within a couple of days but being a new build it may take longer, can't she look on her bidding history? If she can't bid on the next bidding cycle then she will probably be offered one.

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 18:52

Thank you.

Thank you, she is classed as homeless at the moment as in a military house and was told to be out in May due to marriage break down. (She is still in the house waiting to be evicted)

She should be in a high band then. Many LA still give priority for HM forces relocation as well as homeless. Even better if the Welfare officer gives them a gentle nudge.

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 19:18

Yes she is band 1 and Saffa have spoke to housing before. Plus got medical letters.

It won't be long then, let's hope it's the right location for them, a steady new start.

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 19:45

Definitely this one she bud on is ten minutes drive from us so fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

I've had lost of experience of this. Generally anything between a week to 3 weeks is pretty common. It will tell you on her account... skipped/open/unsuccessful or similar

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 20:04

Thank you bidding ended last night at 11.59 pm so hope soon it will say on her account.

They first two on the bidding list will need to refuse it before she is offered the property I believe.

Kazzy2507 · 23/08/2022 20:08

OK thank you for your reply

Not necessarily, that's not actually how a short list works. They shortlist say 1-10 then whoever fits the criteria with the need and the longest start date gets offered. However all councils HA differ in how they work.

I’m number 3 on a property bidding ends tomorrow at midnight hope I get it for me and my 3 children we really need this house. Has anyone else been number 3 and got the house? Thanks 🙏

Lougle · 29/10/2022 21:47

We ended up number 3 for this house. Then the next day we got a call asking for documents. I can only assume that DD1's disability trumped the circumstances of bidders 1&2.

Jlos · 30/10/2022 08:30

@Lougle hi just curious when the bidding closed dis you get the call next day offering you the property? I’m number 3 on a house closes at midnight tonight!!!

Lougle · 30/10/2022 12:48

I got a call asking for documents the next day, then I didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks.

ifoundthebread · 30/10/2022 12:56

My LA lists a house as soon as it goes back into their possession, then you hear nothing until the house is ready to be let. I bid on my house in march, was second and didnt hear anything back until end of may when I was invited for a viewing. In that time 1st place had been offered a home else where so i was given first refussal, which they wanted the day of the viewing, within an hour of the viewing been over. I then got the keys a week later.

Jlos · 31/10/2022 10:15

So the house I bid on ended at midnight last nite I was number 3 all the way through then checked at just gone midnight and I’ve ranked at number 12!!! Can anyone explain this to me don’t understand y I have gone from 3 to 12 thanks 🙏

S0faSpud · 18/01/2023 14:58

Sorry folks. Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not. I'm currently in position 2 and 3 on 2 different council properties atm. I was in position 1 up till this afternoon. The bidding closes tomorrow. Will I still be shortlisted and offered the properties or is it only offered to the person in position 1 and then only offered to me if they refuse the offer? Some people say they offer it to the top 4 and then some people say I won't hear anything unless the people above me refuse. I'm gutted though. I've been in position 1 since Friday and really thought I was going to get it. So to be bumped off the top spot less than 24 hours before closing is a wind up. Any information anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Jlos · 18/01/2023 16:47

@S0faSpud ive been in that position many times just depends I’m in NW and if someone comes in higher priority and bids they will go b4 you, they can bid a minute b4 bidding ends and u will get put back also we have auto bids where people can’t bid themselves so an automatic bid is put on for the them b4 the bidding cycle ends which u won’t see till close of bids after midnight it is for us in NW where everyone has their final rank position on a positive note tho I was number 4 on a property and I got offered it not sure why the other 3 didn’t have it but it’s an affordable rent property new build and the rents abit higher !!! Fingers crossed 🤞 for you x

Kazzy2507 · 18/01/2023 18:16
