Need a house name

We’re soon going to need a name for our plot of land where our house will eventually be built and need some ideas.

We are in a small village where all the houses have names and the road that runs through the village does not have a name so couldn’t give the house a number even if we wanted to.

Can you see any fells from the house? What about Fellsfoot House/Cottage?

My house has a unique name, no other house in the country has the same, makes no difference deliveries are still impossible.

If I were to change it I would call it.æ " Little St Bride House" after a road in Liverpool I loved the name of. You could only see the name road name from the top deck of the bus, I used to go up especially so I could see it.

I know of a very cute thatched house called Cobweb Cottage. What style building are you going for?

Goldrill · 22/08/2022 22:45

Asganyammarra or Asganyammarraeh?

Floweryflora · 22/08/2022 22:47

What will you plant in place of rhe conifers op?

camelias, willows, I assume something lovely? No one removes something ugly to replace it with something just as ugly.

so if willow it could be little willows.if camelia it could be camelia house, if red robin, then robins reach, if hawthorn, hawthorn place, if maple, then maple place, and so on.

or you can name it after other plants or birds,,iris house, herons landing, swallows reach, rose cottage, etc.

The Herons
Windy Corner (from A Room With A View)
The Chantry
Brillig (from the Jabberwocky)
Lark House
Quinto Coño (for those who'll get lost) 😆

Are you close to any Roman remains for inspiration, eg Hadrian Lodge?
Do you have any views of geographic features...Scarp View, Dale House?
What size is the field...Three Acre Cottage?

If the road has no house numbers, give your house one! Your birth year, or wedding year, or a number you like, written in words. Or in digits if it's long.

Seventy Two
Oh Eight
1966

Love this idea

I don't have a good suggestion but I used to live in a bungalow called "the bungalow" there were no other nearby bungalows and this one was big and obvious yet delivery drivers often knocked to ask if they were at the right place.

A friend lived in a house called Cobwebs - said it stood for Currently Owned By Woolwich Equitable Building Society 🙂

Stoney Field House? But yes check ALL the names of houses nearby, some thick people moved into our street 2 years ago and changed the name of the house to the name of another house IN THE STREET - 3 feckin times! I kid you not! They actually had to have all the names up at one point - poor bloody postman!Confused

The nook or The nest give a nice warm, cosy feeling.

A combination of two things that you can see
E.g. Cherrychurch house
Kirkfield cottage
Bramblefell nook
Brooklane nest

My favourite ever mumsnet thread had someone ask a similar question and the first reply was Norman. It all went downhill from there. I still smile now just thinking about it 😆

I'm glad you're getting better responses OP!

Whippetquick · 23/08/2022 09:53

Wits End that's what I'd call my house

LadyEloise1 · 23/08/2022 10:51

My Mum and Dad took part of the name of their family homes and joined them together to make a new name for their first and only home together. I think that's lovely.
