If you have or could have a garden room/cabin in your garden what would you use it for?

I'll be totally straight with you all. I've taken on a new client that sells wooden log cabins and I'm looking for ideas to dress their show cabins.

They have the normal ones like gyms, bars, offices etc just wondering what else I could suggest With your help.

Ours is large, one half is my therapy/office, the other half our gym.
When office room is not in use it is a lovely chill out place and I/the kids use it when we have friends round it's quite a way from the house.

In a dream world it would be made entirely in secret and completely hidden from view so my family did t know it existed. It would then become my secret hiding place where I could go to escape in peace and quiet to read my book and eat chocolate and listen to music.

In a more realistic version of life I'd want it to be lovely and bright inside with plenty of natural light, it would be my office/sewing room/ reading space with one of those incredibly squishy armchairs that kind of hugs you as you sink into it.

Home office & kids entertainment space (after work)

My own private yoga studio/meditation space.

Free from clutter, media, phones.

Look at 'The clean and organised sewing room' Facebook group for inspiration if you are going to do a craft room type one.

Endless swimming pool. I train in one and my instructor has a cabin as her pool house .

Mine is split in two rooms: One third of the floor space is used as a shed/furniture repair workshop; two thirds as a gym/quiet room with sofa bed and tv. That room can also be used by teens for hanging out with friends.

There's a couple of beauticians local to me who work from one.

And a couple of sports massage therapists now I think of it.

Oh - and a physio and a PT!

I'm spotting a bit of a local theme now!

A studio apartment for ds, he is 18 & talking about leaving home, I'm not sure he is ready yet, having an apartment he could be independent but I could still keep an eye on him.

We use ours as a movie room.
Sometimes I just sit in there to read or binge watch things in peace. DH likes to watch the football in it too.
It has a sofa bed so sometimes we sleep out in it, DS loves that! He and his friends aren't allowed to play in it so it can be kept as a nice chill out space for the family. When he's older I can see it becoming a teen 'den' maybe

I would like a space for up cycling furniture. I could also see a gaming room being popular (sofa, Xbox, etc.)

A neighbour tried hairdressing in hers but all the other neighbours objected and the council refused her permission to run her business.
So maybe not that.

I’m hoping to get one in the future and I would use it as my space for knitting, reading and playing my flute. So craft/music study area.

wednesdayrobyn · 06/07/2022 02:19

We have an L shaped one with 3 'zones' I have a big corner desk for crafting, dh has his desk for days working from home and we have a corner sofa with TV/ consoles for the kids.

Aquilegia23 · 06/07/2022 02:27

Mine would be a craft room. With a table top running nearly all the way round for my sewing machine, and storage for fabric, haberdashery etc. Room for a tailor's dummy. Bliss.

PP have mainly said all the things that I'd use one for.

The only other thing I could add is that we were thinking of getting one for the DC (but we're moving now instead). DC are autistic and we were going to create a sensory space - sort of like a meditation quiet zone but with more sensory things around. A friend created one that was a combined yoga space and sensory area for her DC.

For parents with autistic DC who need to get away from the rest of the household into a quiet space sometimes, this could be really valuable.

I'm a crazy cat mum so a cat room with toys and wall climbing furniture etc.

I'd love one (if I had a yard) so I could get my spare room back.
