Horrible garden, great location

I can see past the awful interior, we can fix that with our nice furniture and re-decorating. I’m really struggling with the garden though, it’s just so far from the grassy, planty, pretty space for the kids to build dens etc. the owners ripped up perfectly good lawn for that not that long ago. I could cry!
everything else ticks the boxes in terms of location, off road parking, quiet road.

With a decent budget it could all be sorted but the amount of work it needs would put me off I'm afraid. I don't mind doing work but I couldn't live in that house until a lot of things had been changed

Cinnabomb · 29/06/2022 14:44

Wow, I don’t often comment on others peoples taste but that is just…. Very Hinch.

I couldn’t get past the garden, sorry. You could rip up the slabs and have grass, lots of pots etc but it still wouldn’t be big enough and nowhere for kids or dogs to run around. Depends on what sort of garden you need, if the size is ok for you, you can green it up, but i think it looks tiny.

emmathedilemma · 29/06/2022 14:47

Is it on a hill? I can't quite work out why their garden seems to be 2 floors above everyone else's? Once you take their horrific furniture and decorations out the rest of the house is probably ok but that garden is always going to be small and on odd levels.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/06/2022 14:49

I’ve got vertigo just looking at the garden🤢

Grey overkill

squashyhat · 29/06/2022 14:51

I bet the neighbours are glad they are moving out.

RandomQuest · 29/06/2022 14:52

That’s not really a garden, more like a big balcony or roof terrace… it would be a no from me unless it’s right next to a big park with playground. Or am I missing something

savemeagin · 29/06/2022 14:52

For me, that garden would take too much money to set right. If the rest of the house was lovely, it'd be different but I think it'll cost a lot to get rid of all that awful grey to then have to spend out on the garden. Don't get me wrong, I quite like grey, but that looks like the grey puke monster has exploded - in every room bar the kitchen.

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 29/06/2022 14:54

I really hope your surname isn't any version of Grey... Get a landscaper in.
And buy some flamboyant wallpaper ASAP...

RitaFires · 29/06/2022 14:54

The levels of that garden were never going to be good for playing ball games and running around. The lower level also looks like it might be too dark to have a lawn down there. They've paved over everything but I don't think it was ever an ideal garden.

SBAM · 29/06/2022 14:55

how do you get into the kitchen? Is there access from the front round the side, otherwise bringing the food shop through the lounge will be a pain.
im assuming the house is on a hill and that’s why the garden is terraced like that, I imagine you could leave the top as a patio and have the lower bit with a swing and some grass or something for the kids.

for me, it would be too much work to bring the house and garden up to a standard I’d like. Plus i imagine the current owners think they’ve hugely improved the place and you’ll be paying for that.

Tallisker · 29/06/2022 14:57

I wondered why all the photos were in black and white until I got to the kitchen Confused

Thursday37 · 29/06/2022 14:57

Oh dear god. I mean you could do something with it. But I’m really not sure I could be bothered. Bu the time I’d sorted inside I’d have lost the will to live. It’s just unpleasant all round isn’t it.
I’d have to really, really love the location.

I’ve just bought one that needs a ton of work so I’m not adverse to a project but that one just looks a bit depressing. Sorry @Elfontheedge

PensionPuzzle · 29/06/2022 14:59

Yikes, that's not the most attractive decor is it...

But that aside, imagine the garden is turf, does the shape/levels/space work for kids anyway? I'm inclined to say not, in which case it will never be able to do what you need it to no matter how much you spend putting it right.

SwelegantParty · 29/06/2022 15:02

Ye gods, they never met a shade of grey they didn't like, did they! It's like the house that taste forgot....

Elfontheedge · 29/06/2022 15:02

Part of the problem is that we are selling because we don’t have enough space in our current house. We are tied to the area because of schools etc and this is the top
of our budget. To get a bigger house which includes a proper garden we have to move out of the area or spend a lot more than we have. I agree though, it’s depressing. It’s not our “forever home” (ugh that phrase). It’s just for the next 10 years until the kids are out of school.

Interiors by HomeSense ? Unfortunately the garden would be a no for me.

Elfontheedge · 29/06/2022 15:06

Apparently the estate agents are struggling to shift it. Can’t think why!

OP posts:
mummabear74 · 29/06/2022 15:07

The garden would be a no for me too and as it's not a forever house you would also have the same views from prospective purchasers in the future.

SpiderVersed · 29/06/2022 15:09

Blinking heck, that decor…

LampHat · 29/06/2022 15:11

You should probably add a trigger warning to this. My poor eyes.

Not just me then.

OP the garden layout even without the slabs doesn't look child friendly as it isn't one big space. It seems an older teen and adult garden.

Aposterhasnoname · 29/06/2022 15:11

I was coming on to say I’m sure it can be fixed with a bit
of work, and how bad can a garden be. But that’s bad! Like next level bad.

barbrahunter · 29/06/2022 15:14

Given what you've said, OP I would probably buy it if I were you. If nothing else, it does look well maintained, so you'll probably be ok with plumbing/electrics etc. Ok the garden is never going to be a good size, but no house is perfect.

Roundaboot · 29/06/2022 15:17

Oh dear! That really is grim isn't it? I also thought the photos were B&W...

The "garden" is really, really off-putting. It's not just the paving, it's the size and shape - really not ideal for kids, or pets so as a previous poster said, it's going to put a lot of future buyers off.

Yes, as ugly as it is, they've probably made it a more usable space than it was before by far. A lot of plants would go a long way to making it a much more pleasant gaden feeling area.
