We are being outpriced from the lovely arty seaside town where we live.Can anyone suggest somewhere bohemian and lovely where you can get decent sized 3 bed house with garden under £325k?

The area between Waterloo to Southport is very attractive and accessible. Excellent transport links and there’s plenty going on in the area. Price wise it is terrific value for money. The area around Skipton is gorgeous but you may have to travel a little outside of the town boundary to meet the budget. Barmouth and Bangor in North Wales are very affordable. Beautiful scenery and Bangor has a good train line through to Chester.

@DockOTheBay
maybe not but it does have two uni’s i think and it is quite close to winchester which offers that. It does have good value housing though.

Stroud in Gloucestershire?

Was coming on to say Stroud! It's great.
Or Belper always looks nice.

Please let us know when you find it.
Point also for: no Tory voters, great schools & an ethnically diverse population 👍

These "no Tories" suggestions always amuse me. It rather limits you to Chorley or Northern Ireland.

Shrewsbury?

@catfunk
@Wintersgirl

"Do you live in Worthing? IME loads of the Brighton lot are moving out west to I'm seeing an increasing amount of Indy bars/ breweries/ coffee shops opening up."

This is definitely true - half my friends seem to be doing it!
Certainly not that cheap though - esp W Worthing - I think that ship has sailed.

steppemum · 02/05/2022 21:34

I was going to say Stroud.
Opposite of beach though, as it is in a valley.

won;t meet the poster who asked for diversity, pretty much white population.

Hala9 · 02/05/2022 21:35

Those who say Tynemouth - you won’t get much more than a flat in Tynemouth for your budget.

munchbunch12 · 02/05/2022 21:35

Ulverston or Kendal in Cumbria are both nice.

carefullycourageous · 02/05/2022 21:36

I visited Lancaster recently and liked it, and prices are quite reasonable there. We keep discussing it for retirement - maybe see you there!

EmmatheStageRat · 02/05/2022 21:37

I live in one of the towns mentioned more than once in this thread and I would heartily recommend another town; namely, Berwick-on-Tweed in Northumberland, very close to the Scottish Borders. It’s a beautiful Elizabethan-walled town on the River Tweed with easy access to all the delights of Northumberland, such as Holy Island, Bamburgh, Alnwick, Alnmouth, Craster etc but is also only a 50-minute train journey into Edinburgh Waverley.

Berwick is where LS Lowry holidayed and painted prolifically and there is an amazing art gallery which brings exhibitions up from London and down from Edinburgh.

OK, this one is a bit over budget, but gorgeous!

Prestwick/Troon

Maybe not bohemian, but definitely lovely independent shops and businesses, lovely beaches and nice things to do with family.

Thank you for all of the suggestions, I’m really enjoying going through them all then heading to Rightmove to search houses 😆

There are quite a few places mentioned here that might have fitted the bill 5–10 years ago, but you wouldn't get a family home for that budget in any of the following:

Bournemouth
Bristol
Cullercoats/Tynemouth (also the vast majority of houses at the lower end of the market don't have gardens)

I've been house-hunting myself in the last 2–3 years in these places, to the same budget as you OP.

You won’t get a family home for £325k in Holmfirth. Hebden Bridge maybe

My mum’s smallish 3 bed house in Holmfirth is worth less than that. The surrounding villages are cheaper though. It’s a great place to live.

Bobbybobbins · 02/05/2022 21:46

Belper

londonmummy1966 · 02/05/2022 21:47

Wells - has a couple of galleries and Cedars Hall and the Cathedral for concerts etc and some arty/crafty shops.

Booboobagins · 02/05/2022 21:50

I can't see any mention of places in Wales! Does it need to be seaside? If so Anglesey and several other Welsh coastal towns too. Even Brecon fits your budget.

If you use Zoopla and search properties for sake in United Kingdom, put all your wants and budget in the search and hopefully you find suitable places galore!
