We are being outpriced from the lovely arty seaside town where we live. Can anyone suggest somewhere bohemian and lovely where you can get decent sized 3 bed house with garden under £325k?

Buxton
Stirling

You want to live in Belper.

PiedATerrace · 02/05/2022 14:20

Some parts of Greater Manchester? Maybe Whalley Range? Leafy, near the bars and the many things to do go Chorlton, lefty, multicultural and you you get in there NOW you can probably buy a 3 bed around 300-325 - gardens are tiny, though.

Worthing is where people go to retire and it's not particularly cheap either, especially West Worthing...

Do you live in Worthing? IME loads of the Brighton lot are moving out west to I'm seeing an increasing amount of Indy bars/ breweries/ coffee shops opening up.

Sherwood, Nottingham eg. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/121849475

Bristol.

Never expected to see Stirling on one of these lists... Although if enough arty people move out of Edinburgh to Stirling it can only improve matters (from a very low base). It is near nice countryside though.

I have lived in both Hebden Bridge and West Kilbride....Hebden is not as fun as it used to be imo, the floods have whittled away at some of the cool stuff that used to be there, businesses that closed and never came back, there's still loads of cool ones but the feel is different somehow. A lot of less wealthy people have been priced out and had to leave for Tod, Mytholmroyd or further afield, more richer commuters there now. Not exclusively of course, but I do feel it's changed a lot in the last 10 years. West Kilbride is lovely and the beach is gorgeous, but from OP's updates I think would be too small for her. Although Glasgow is close for shops, music, art, kids' classes at the RCS and all that. Stroud may be a possibility?

MichaelAndEagle · 02/05/2022 15:27

Cullercoats, Tynemouth, Whitley Bay just outside Newcastle?

Apricote · 02/05/2022 15:28

Oh and look at Haworth. If I was going back to West Yorkshire I would go there now, not Hebden. Has some lovely shops and cafes, nice walks. No train station though (well, except the steam train.)

springtimeishereagain · 02/05/2022 15:34

Brackley in Northamptonshire? Actually, Northamptonshire in general - lots of nice villages and towns.

resuwen · 02/05/2022 15:46

SW Sheffield, e.g Meersbrook, Crookes, Nether Edge.

motogirl · 02/05/2022 15:51

You can find that in Somerset but you need to get at least 30 mins from Bristol to meet your budget unless you don't mind the older postcodes. Look at places without a train station as having access to London makes the prices shoot up. Perhaps Shepton Mallet? I'm on the coast and you would struggle to find much under £350k though the bigger gardens tend to be the cheaper houses here oddly

motogirl · 02/05/2022 15:52

@SarahDesk

Did you see their budget? Only the roughest neighbourhoods get close

SE13Mummy · 02/05/2022 16:15

Herne Bay?
Bournemouth?

Somanyquestions1984 · 02/05/2022 16:31

Parts of Southampton?

Subbaxeo · 02/05/2022 18:37

Chester possibly. Tons of coffee shops, lovely centre and the Storyhouse theatre/library/bar complex. Nice walks along the river. Mold definitely-Indie pubs, coffee shops and Theatr Clwyd. Bishops Castle in Shropshire would float your boat but don’t know about theatre.

Parts of Southampton?

Not many independent or artsy places in Southampton in my experience, unfortunately.

orangetriangle · 02/05/2022 21:03

norfolk

Longhairmightcare · 02/05/2022 21:04

New Brighton on the Wirral has a flourishing indie/arts quarter (the Victoria quarter) whilst also being on the coast.
there’s been a lot of recent investment in the area and it’s becoming more and more desirable yet (currently) family houses are still affordable.

Onedaylikethi5 · 02/05/2022 21:11

Another vote for Belper. Not a weekend goes by without some kind of festival or event. On the doorstep of the Derbyshire Peaks, good transport links, great high Street.

DorritLittle · 02/05/2022 21:15

Southampton does have some nice places with independent bits like Bitterne Triangle, and good access to culture. I am not sure it's really what the OP is asking for though.

I also never thought Worthing would be considered bohemian.

Riverlee · 02/05/2022 21:19

Rochester - lovely high street, just had The Sweeps festival all weekend

Deal - lovely, small coastal town

Broadstairs - sandy, beach town,

Margate - up and coming, although still a little rough around the edges

Some Kent suggestions

MissBattleaxe · 02/05/2022 21:20

Abergavenny is a great little town full of indie shops, cute theatre, museum, food festival, market, good schools. Three train stops from Cardiff.
