Bathtub in a bedroom

Straw poll. Yay or nay? It's for a couples retreat Airbnb? Is it tacky or luxurious?

Having a tub in a non-bathroom would make me feel uneasy if at all overlooked.
One of my neighbours had a tub fitted right in front of her juliet balcony (fully glazed, no window coverings). Presumably, she had been sold the idea of watching the sunset from her loft living room. The problem was that she had bright pink hair and was six foot plus so she was highly visible and it became a local joke. She carried on doing it until she moved away.

@PutYourBackIntoit

We have an Airbnb in a place where people stay to go walking/mountain biking.

The 2 most commented on attributes in the guest book is the bath, and the gin selection. Smile

We have a Japanese deep soaking bath, so that we could have a bath and a walk in shower, as regular bath would not have fitted. Guests love veing able to soak right up to their necks after a physical day. Also the smaller surface area means the water retains the heat much better.

Thank you for this helpful tip. I've seen the soaking baths and wasn't sure if people would like them. Would you feel comfortable posting a photo? Or a link so we can all book your retreat? ☺️

Bathtub in a bedroom

My bathroom has an extractor to remove damp air. So you’d need to install an extractor in the bedroom. And regardless my bathroom still gets damp and we have to repaint the ceiling with anti mould paint, so that would be an issue in the bedroom, in fact it would be worse because bedding and clothes and furniture would get mouldy too. So it’s a no from me, I think it’s a stupid idea.

BastardtheCat · 04/04/2022 19:51

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Why not a toilet in the living room? Then you need never miss a crucial bit on the telly just because you need a pee. We've got a kettle by ours, saves traipsing into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. It's balanced on DP's crate of beers.

No.

Also, I think they look ridiculous on Instagram and I'd be more WTF than wow if I came across a 'dressed' one surrounded by props .

BastardtheCat · 04/04/2022 19:56

No to the bedroom bath.
Sorry OP!

A lovely chaises longes (spelling)
or a mighty fine sofa would be perfect for me.

sophienelisse · 04/04/2022 20:12

If the room was massive definitely

lakeswimmer · 04/04/2022 21:52

Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks baths in bedrooms are a stupid idea. It would put me off booking.

I totally agree with the Japanese tub in a smallish bathroom and, if there's space, a small sofa in the bedroom.

I'm sold. I thought people might think a soaking tub was strange but if it's popular in your Airbnb I feel more confident.

That photo made me laugh - it looks like tiny children in a bathroom sink 😂
Mintine · 05/04/2022 09:21

Yes, I think they look beautiful in a large luxurious bedroom, very decadent.

PutYourBackIntoit · 05/04/2022 13:52

It's exactly like that @SoupDragon, as it brings a sense of fun! The kids are between 4 and 7 in that photo. They still, although much older love climbing over the step and feeling completely submerged. So do I Grin

crocus776 · 05/04/2022 14:02

I'm a walker, would prefer a fab shower and hot tub. We specifically book a few mini breaks per year with a Hot tub.

isthisit83 · 05/04/2022 15:40

@crocus776 sadly we don't have room for a hot tub

I love a bath in the bedroom! Why all the hate?! It would be a selling point for me.

I can have a glass of fizz in the bath while DH sits on the bed and we can chat. Fine, maybe not everyone would do that but also, if you want privacy, surely your other half can manage to not enter the bedroom while you're in the bath just like they would if you were in a bathroom?! Also in my experience, the steam is not an issue and it's lovely to get out and be in the bedroom where your clothes etc are already there.

scottishnames · 05/04/2022 18:15

AirBandB have done a an awful LOT of damage to fragile tourist areas - just look at places like Edinburgh.
A bath in a bedroom is to me naff-o-rama and a horrible source of damp. I like bedrooms to be peaceful and airy, not damp and - I am sorry - smelly of washing humans or loos.
So for two reasons, I - and others like me - would most definitely not be booking.

isthisit83 · 05/04/2022 19:25

@PutYourBackIntoit do you remember who supplied your bathtub? And do you have one with a seat inside?

OP posts:
Getabloominmoveon · 05/04/2022 19:56

I think you've got the message OP, but since I have previously posted on this very issue, I feel I have to say (again), it's called the BED room for a reason, not the BATH room.

viques · 05/04/2022 20:09

The thing about baths in bedrooms is that my practical brain looks beyond the candles and glass of wine and wonders where you keep the cif and the microfibre cloth.

PutYourBackIntoit · 05/04/2022 21:36

We got ours from Omnitub, but it doesn't look like they offer the ones with seats anymore.

Ours looks a little like this www.bathroomsandshowersdirect.co.uk/rectangular-baths/rectangular-baths/armitage-shanks-showertub-s125401-1200-x-750mm-2-tap-hole-no-grips?gclid=CjwKCAjw0a-SBhBkEiwApljU0rYl6CDI3Ss9EZI4D1qodfVhrvyAxZ2hIUdCXjGQg8CIgw_rUFD2yRoCKYcQAvD_BwE

You will need to build a step to get into it, or if it's at ground floor level dig further into the ground.

isthisit83 · 06/04/2022 08:03

@PutYourBackIntoit thanks! I saw the omnitubs but it looks like they don't have a seat inside which I thought might make it more comfortable. Does yours have a seat? I have found an alternative make which offers a seat.

Yes I agree it will need a step!

OP posts:
isthisit83 · 06/04/2022 08:03

Oh yes I see it does have a seat!

OP posts:
Dammitthisisshit · 06/04/2022 08:07

I like it!
For me having a bath is a luxurious thing and a bath shouldn’t be next to a toilet… totally different function in my mind.

MaryAndHerNet · 06/04/2022 08:11

Looks nice in photos, in reality, the only word that you need to remember is... Moist...

Moist bedding
Moist walls
Moist clothes
Moist windows

Fuck that.
