Straw poll. Yay or nay? It's for a couples retreat Airbnb? Is it tacky or luxurious?

OP posts:
Peony15 · 04/04/2022 11:41

Tacky.
Absolutely no.
Hideous " feature ", beyond words.
Who wants to bathe in a bedroom ?
Or sleep
in a bathroom ? 🤮

SwedishEdith · 04/04/2022 11:42

Tacky to me.

TunaTastic · 04/04/2022 11:43

It was a no, then I thought about the hill walking and the styling and it's a yes. DH would be in the shower whilst I soaked in the bath. Hope your boiler is up to it!

SD1978 · 04/04/2022 11:44

No from me. I want privacy and peace in a bath, not having the other person stomping about the bedroom. I've never yet looked at this design and had it appeal to me personally.

WellNotReally · 04/04/2022 11:47

No, absolutely not. Recently stayed in a campsite where the owner also runs a self-catering place aimed at couples. She showed us round it and laughingly said we call it the shag pad because there's a bath in the bedroom. Yuk.

MaggieFS · 04/04/2022 11:56

I wouldn't compromise on the nice big shower, so if you can't also fit a tub in the bath room, then have it in the bedroom. Much nicer than having a soak in a tub with your head adjacent to a loo. Just think about where to put toiletries and have a huge bathmat plus screen and it will be fine.

I wouldn't want one in a house to live in but I'd be neutral about it in an overnight rental.

@isthisit83

Wow lots of replies! Seems the consensus is a NO. The problem I'm having is from a marketing perspective the big freestanding bath is a real selling point even though I don't think many people will use it whether it's in a bathroom or a bedroom. If the bathroom only has space for a shower over a bath or a big luxurious walk in shower which would be the better option??? I do think some of my market will be hill walkers (Yorkshire) so thought a bath would be a good idea...
Shower over the bath definately especially for your market.

Easy to "dress" for arrivals/photographs/marketing, something easy to put props round for a birthday/anniversary celebration (such as candles, champagne etc). People will go into the room and go wow.

This made me laugh out loud. Apologies @antidisestablishmentarianism

It is good to know just how different life can be for other people.

Big walk in shower for me, I expect those that families with children would want a bath. Perhaps not one in a bedroom , though, what with the splashes.

FallopianTubeTrain · 04/04/2022 12:44

The thing about having a lovely hot bath in a bathroom is that it gets steamy and keeps the room nice and warm. I had a bath in a hotel room once and it was a fairly glum experience as the room was well ventilated and big enough that the bath didn’t cause damp issues but that also meant that it wasn’t all warm and cosy either so any bit of me that wasn’t underwater was cold and unpleasant.

It wouldn’t put me off booking but I wouldn’t consider it a plus point or be “wowed” by it in photos. I'd be more impressed by a huge bedroom or a huge comfy chair by a window with an impressive view if it’s a choice of how to use the space.

Beercrispsandnuts · 04/04/2022 12:48

It’s a no from me too.

MoHunter · 04/04/2022 12:55

If my husband was the Witcher...then yes Grin

Ariela · 04/04/2022 13:10

I'd pick a huge deep, comfy window seat over a massive bath in a room any day.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/04/2022 13:11

@Jackiebrambles

I always think it looks quite aspirational but then I just think, doesn't everything get damp and steamed up??

My husband thinks it's ridiculous and specifically will not book a hotel room or cabin that has a bedroom bathtub.

Neither will I!
CointreauVersial · 04/04/2022 13:13

Noooo.

I have stayed in a number of hotels and Airbnbs over the years which came with a tub in the bedroom, and NOT ONCE have I felt compelled to run a bath and climb in. Just give me a nice, lux bathroom and I'll bathe in there forever.

Starlitexpress · 04/04/2022 13:33

Nope, how do you have a bath with someone in bed just looking at you?

Also the damp, much rather have a lovely bathroom with a walk in shower and quite frankly..........no bath at all!

Who takes their children to a couple's retreat?!

ExConstance · 04/04/2022 13:51

I like them and have stayed in several hotels that have them. Even better is a really magnificent bathroom with huge tub. The most amazing one I have lain in was at The Pig on The Beach in Dorset, huge bathroom, huge bath and views over Old Harry and the cliffs.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 04/04/2022 14:01

Who wants the noise from an extract fan in their bedroom??

axolotlfloof · 04/04/2022 14:01

No

EasterDecorations · 04/04/2022 14:14

No, really tacky.

PutYourBackIntoit · 04/04/2022 14:21

We have an Airbnb in a place where people stay to go walking/mountain biking.

The 2 most commented on attributes in the guest book is the bath, and the gin selection. Smile

We have a Japanese deep soaking bath, so that we could have a bath and a walk in shower, as regular bath would not have fitted. Guests love veing able to soak right up to their necks after a physical day. Also the smaller surface area means the water retains the heat much better.

Thinkingthinking · 04/04/2022 14:26

Well, I previously would have agreed with the above. However we recently moved into a house with one and I love it. There's no damp issues as it's next to the window (way more for the en-suite shower room, although I know mumsnet also hates these). I use it every day and have a bath with my toddler looking out at the sky and tress through the attic window. She can run around and play while it's running and I can get her somewhere soft and cosy directly after bath. I hated having a small baby / toddler with a cramped windowless bathroom in our previous place. She was always hitting her head, crawling around the loo etc. this is much more civilised.

mydogisthebest · 04/04/2022 14:56

No. I think they are incredibly tacky and just look plain stupid.

I would never book a stay anywhere that had a bath in the bedroom.

I want a nice big walk in shower when I go away and in the room it's meant to be in - a bathroom

DidymusAmbrosius · 04/04/2022 15:01

FWIW almost all my holidays are walking type holidays and more often than not are winter/colder weather walking.

A large walk in shower any day of the week.

Ah - now that I could also get behind! Grin
