Straw poll. Yay or nay? It's for a couples retreat Airbnb? Is it tacky or luxurious?

Its a huge yes from me. Easy to "dress" for arrivals/photographs/marketing, something easy to put props round for a birthday/anniversary celebration (such as candles, champagne etc). People will go into the room and go wow. People will book the room just for it. Hardly anyone will actually use it, but for airbnb purposes that doesn't matter to you, its all about the sell/marketing opportunity.

For the odd people who do use it you will need some ventilation solution that isn't a noisy fan. You also need a suggestion of privacy - I used an old fashioned room screen, three panels, fabric-covered so they can have the illusion of privacy from the door. Oh and a good lock on the room door, again for the privacy feeling!

It does need to be paired with a great bathroom with a wonderful shower. And a door on the shower room!

If it is a free standing bath you need some solution for toiletries and a glass of wine, something that doesnt take up too much space and is beautiful, remember no one uses it they just want to think they can! We used a wooden plant-stand type affair which was pretty and had flowers on but you could perch your wine on it. We also had one of those wooden bath shelf things across the bath(like a tray thing) styled with a loofah and pretty soaps/bath bombs.

We had three of these room types and they were extremely popular despite their eye-watering price tag. Factor in too you need double the bath towels at least.

I'd rather the space was used for a comfortable couch.

Itsbackagain · 04/04/2022 10:53

oh and glass doors - even the frosted ones - nope!

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2022 10:55

Absolutely not. I actively discount any hotels / airbnbs that have a bathtub in the bedroom. It's a nonsense trend and I hope it buggers off soon.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/04/2022 10:56

Why not a toilet in the living room? Then you need never miss a crucial bit on the telly just because you need a pee.
We've got a kettle by ours, saves traipsing into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. It's balanced on DP's crate of beers.

Jellybean23 · 04/04/2022 10:57

No. I wouldn't book on that basis. And we only use the shower anyway.

Snoken · 04/04/2022 11:00

Not for me. I haven't taken a bath since I was a child, and would never use it. I'd rather have more space in the room or a seating area of some sort.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 04/04/2022 11:01

I have never seen this

carefullycourageous · 04/04/2022 11:05

Yes, I like it.

I wouldn't bother in a domestic house though as most people don't seem to like it!

isthisit83 · 04/04/2022 11:06

Wow lots of replies! Seems the consensus is a NO. The problem I'm having is from a marketing perspective the big freestanding bath is a real selling point even though I don't think many people will use it whether it's in a bathroom or a bedroom. If the bathroom only has space for a shower over a bath or a big luxurious walk in shower which would be the better option??? I do think some of my market will be hill walkers (Yorkshire) so thought a bath would be a good idea...

I can dig out the measurements later but I'm really struggling to fit a nice size shower and a small freestanding bath

We nearly bought a house that had a bath in the bedroom. The first thing I planned to do was get builders to put up a partition wall.

SoonbeSpringtime · 04/04/2022 11:13

I would say take @antidisestablishmentarianism advice, but actually the best advice is cater for your market. For Instagrammers then yes, for hill walkers and practical people who want the value, quality and comfort in the things they actually want to use, a very hard no.

I’d go for the best shower every time, but walkers might enjoy a soak.

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2022 11:15

I love a bath, but in your case I'd go for a really luxurious walk-in shower. Or how about a great shower and a deep Japanese soaking tub for those weary post-hike muscles? Grin It would take up much less space than a freestanding bath.

MermaidEyes · 04/04/2022 11:18

No, I'd much rather do it in the shower thanks.

Chemenger · 04/04/2022 11:19

This sounds like a great idea.
UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2022 11:20

something like this?

Cornettoninja · 04/04/2022 11:21

Do you have an outside area? Your money might be better spent on a hot tub maybe?

I’m not a massive fan of those either tbh (Grin) but if you could dress the area with a similar luxurious feel that might be just as popular with walkers along with a really good shower.

Cornettoninja · 04/04/2022 11:22

Although I do like the look of that Japanese soaking tub.

Cazalet · 04/04/2022 11:25

No.

AxolotlEars · 04/04/2022 11:25

No from me. Saw a beautiful house which I would have thought of as a family property, which had a tub in nearly all the bedrooms. I think it was 6 bedrooms. Certainly could not imagine some of my children with a bath in their room!

JustJam4Tea · 04/04/2022 11:27

We stayed in a place that had a big freestanding bath, loved it. It was styled like @antidisestablishmentarianism says above - with a screen. Lake District. It was lovely after hiking. There was also a big walk in shower too.

emmathedilemma · 04/04/2022 11:28

No, i've never understood why this is a luxury!

Sleepyquest · 04/04/2022 11:31

I have actively looked for places with a huge bathtub in the room so don't understand everyone against it.
Would I have it in my own house? No.
Do I want it for a romantic trip with my husband? Yes
