About to put our house up for sale.. anyone else?

We are taking the plunge and it's happening - we are selling our house (and relocating 200 miles away but that's another thread I guess) - anyone else? I could do with a collective handhold!

This is where we are now:

  • finishing the last small jobs such as painting a ceiling
  • having meets with estate agents for valuation
  • nervously searching rightmove for possible houses in our relocation area (there isn't a lot!)

Are you going for sale soon? Tell me how it's going!

(we are in the South East)

Oh no I am so sorry @DomusAurea , it is absolutely rubbish. Good news you have 2 viewings - will keep everything crossed for you.

Don’t know what is going on with ours. Trying not to stress.

DomusAurea · 14/07/2022 15:03

Thank you @Volterra & @SpaceyCake I will let you know how it goes. :)

We’re still on rollercoaster. New broker has got buyers another AIP and now talking to underwriters.

Lindisfarne1 · 14/07/2022 18:15

Domestic this happened to me 2 weeks ago it's crap, luckily we found another buyer that weekend I'm sure you will sell again quickly fingers crossed for you.

Lindisfarne1 · 14/07/2022 18:37

Domus sorry bloody predictive text ...

Doubleraspberry · 14/07/2022 19:29

Oh, Domus, how awful. Fingers crossed for a speedy resell.

DomusAurea · 14/07/2022 20:33

Hey thread friends including @Lindisfarne1 & @Doubleraspberry :)

thank you so much for your lovely words - we had vodkatini Thursday (cause if you can't have vodkatini Thursday when your house sale falls through... when can you?)

we saw what is currently available on the market and we found a few really lovely doers uppers with large spaces and full of light...

so we are dreaming and planning, and staying positive and on Saturday we'll have a massive house clean/glow/shine to sell quickly and then move on.

Five viewers booked for tomorrow. People keep me in your thoughts and send good vibes!

I've now had 22 people view my house in 2 weeks. Mostly really good feedback but no offers! The estate agent said our house would go within a week due to the location and the amount of work we've done to it. It's so annoying. Viewings are still coming in so I'm constantly having to clean the house to be show home ready. I can't exactly turn people away buts it's getting pretty tiresome now!
Rant over!

SpaceyCake · 15/07/2022 13:30

Still crossing fingers for @DomusAurea ! I have just had some bad news too so may well be having a whisky Friday myself. I think our sale is about to fall through due to last minute mortgage issues and I'm just knackered after six months of conveyancing (and a year of trying to sell and failing). I think we'll just stay where we are if/when this goes wrong because I can't be arsed with it anymore. 😡

@PermanentlyTired03 I remember the feeling! We were told we would sell super quick because our place is in a lush area, and we had lots of viewings but no offers for ages. We have always managed to get an offer eventually though, so hopefully you'll get one soon too. It's so crap having to keep your house inspection ready at all times. Good luck!

RidingMyBike · 15/07/2022 14:06

We were similar @PermanentlyTired03 - had had estate agents putting flyers through the door for years saying it was a prime location and people queueing up to buy. All the EAs we had in said it would go really quickly, sought after area, well maintained attractive house blah blah.

It went on the market last September- lots of viewings but no offers. We lowered price by £50k a month later and got more viewings and finally an offer in early November, but at the very lowest of the new price (it was OIEO and they offered that price). We felt obliged to accept as there had been no other offer and we didn't want it hanging around on market over the winter (we'd already moved out and into rental 200 miles away).

I think it fell victim to uncertainty over WFH. There wasn't as much space for WFH space in it, living area was open plan which people didn't seem to like and it's proximity to good transport links was less important as fewer people commuting.

Doubleraspberry · 15/07/2022 14:15

We also had the same. 'It'll sell in a day, no need to go on RightMove' from three different agents, eventually sold four months later after two reductions. But we just wanted it gone, and I am now praying to the conveyancing gods that the sale we have agreed goes through. It's horrible when you're getting loads of viewings and the agents are saying they don't know what's wrong.

Volterra · 15/07/2022 17:15

Everything crossed for you @DomusAurea 🍀🍀🍀
@SpaceyCake , we have had bad news today too. I have a funeral to get through Monday so new photos Tuesday and back on Wednesday.

This is not going to defeat me but it is shit isn’t it.

DomusAurea · 15/07/2022 18:28

I am so sorry @Volterra for the funeral - that puts everything in proportion doesn't it?

and regarding the market: 'This is not going to defeat me but it is shit isn’t it.' YEP. absolutely. It's shit but we aren't gonna be defeated.

OP posts:
Volterra · 15/07/2022 19:12

Absolutely not going to be defeated but it is shit and after DS announcing he has run out of at 5.35pm I am feeling a touch sorry for myself if truth be told 😀

Funeral number 3 this year for me - my Dad, friend who was like a second Mum and now my Aunt. I like to think that might be it on the funeral front now. It's a move home for us and all I have to do is survive a bit longer than all being well 4 weeks today I will be home again 🙂

DomusAurea · 15/07/2022 19:58

I am so sorry to hear about your sad losses Volterra. I hope you will be home soon.

Spangledstarlight · 15/07/2022 20:39

@Volterra I’m sorry to hear about your recent losses. Good luck with the re marketing (I’m doing the same). 4 weeks and counting till you’re home 🏠

Spangledstarlight · 15/07/2022 20:43

@DomusAurea sorry to hear about your buyer’s business folding. Wishing you good luck for your five viewings tomorrow and fingers crossed for a celebratory vodkatini soon!

Lindisfarne1 · 15/07/2022 21:05

Volterra condolences to you x
Domus fingers and everything crossed for you x

Had a call today my buyers are having mortgage valuation on my house next week. On looking at reviews for the surveyors I am now really concerned my house will be undervalued. Terrible reviews. I've already dropped 10,000 so I won't be dropping anymore I cant because of the property I'm buying. I hate this process

DomusAurea · 16/07/2022 07:46

People of the thread - Today is the day - six viewing, six.

Having a cup of tea, then polishing every square inch of the house, getting the sparkles from Walt Disney, the atmosphere from Michalle Oghundehin (sp?) and the hypnotism from Derren Brown to make everyone believe this is the perfect place that they have looked for all their life.

Best part of town, priced well, lots of space, parking, gardens. Floor to ceiling windows, wooden floors, one careful lady owner (no this one is a lie) ... there's a lot to like.

Universe, support my house.

Doubleraspberry · 16/07/2022 08:13

Good luck! Your house sounds fab.

Volterra · 16/07/2022 10:21

Good luck @DomusAurea . It sounds lovely and 6 viewings already is brilliant !

Once the world has stopped swirling around me (migraine aura) I will be joining you on the cleaning front. Door went at 8.30am which we ignored as lazily were in bed. It went again so DH had to don his dressing gown and found neighbour at the door. His wife’s cousin would like to see it this afternoon so have agreed on 4.30
