About to put our house up for sale.. anyone else?

We are taking the plunge and it's happening - we are selling our house (and relocating 200 miles away but that's another thread I guess) - anyone else? I could do with a collective handhold!

This is where we are now:

  • finishing the last small jobs such as painting a ceiling
  • having meets with estate agents for valuation
  • nervously searching rightmove for possible houses in our relocation area (there isn't a lot!)

Are you going for sale soon? Tell me how it's going!

(we are in the South East)

Oh FFS, they did not receive their offer, it's still with the underwriters. One step forward and two backwards.

Trying to stay positive.

@DomusAurea That’s annoying to be told that the offer is there and then told no not quite! 😵‍💫 I find sometimes messages get lost in translation! My first ever mortgage offer came though in 2 days I had to really chase up my mortgage offer this time though. It was all OK in the end! Wish I’d chased my sale similarly though oh well you live and learn 😬

Volterra · 08/07/2022 20:23

@DomusAurea sympathies. Our buyer’s mortgage offer was supposed to be out by today but doesn’t appear to be.

Spangledstarlight · 08/07/2022 21:00

@Volterra my broker said with the interest changes people are rushing to lock in rates so he had more clients than usual

Volterra · 08/07/2022 21:02

That does make sense, thanks @Spangledstarlight

DomusAurea · 08/07/2022 21:41

@Volterra & @Spangledstarlight - thank you, I am trying to stay patient, rational and positive.

And, yes, chasing, chasing, chasing is all I am doing too :/. I am teaching myself to upcycle furniture at the moment to take up time. Sanding is therapeutic.

I do on occasions feel like I could lose the plot with it all...

DomusAurea · 09/07/2022 08:08

@Volterra we can use this thread to have tantrums 😆

Thank you 😂Today I’m having a huge wobble about area of new place. Seeing it later which I hope will help.

DomusAurea · 09/07/2022 08:36

Ha, I hear you! I have the same here - we are moving in a 'cool' area which has some pockets of rough, and we are buying in one of these 'rough diamond' streets - I used to live in north London so I am used to it.... or at least I was... we have lived for over 10 years in Lovely Boring Safe place so thinking I may have been changed by it!

OP posts:
DomusAurea · 09/07/2022 08:37

So sometimes I really look forward to the change and to live somewhere that has a pulse... other times I have a massive wobble and think omg maybe I am unable to deal with city life 😆

DomusAurea · 09/07/2022 08:45

@Volterra - and good luck, let me know how it goes! Hope you love it! 😀

Volterra · 09/07/2022 08:46

It’s not just me then 😀 We’re going to a town near a city. We lived in the house before and I hated the area so we swiftly moved to a village, keeping the house and renting it out, Area is changing now and life is very different now the DC are grown up but I get flashbacks to being marooned there during the petrol strike and panic !

We’re in a similar situation then . Mid century house somewhere quiet to Victorian house with smaller garden more built up I think ? I grew up in a city and fleetingly lived in London so am used to more built up but as you say, I wonder if 20 years has changed me too much ?

I am now back to having an urge to run around house shouting ‘don’t panic’ but DH looks very calm and I think DS is asleep so will refrain 😀

Spangledstarlight · 09/07/2022 12:36

@Volterra I think it’s natural to have the wobbles! Isn’t buyer’s remorse a thing?! How did you find renting. I’m told mine would rent out in 24 hours so could be another option after waiting around for my buyer for over 3 months!

Volterra · 09/07/2022 17:40

@Spangledstarlight ours have always rented quickly and most tenants have been long term. Most were very good, one completely trashed it .

We had a good time at the house and the DC liked it . Had phone call from agent whilst in car. The buyer has heard from building society who want a long list of info which would take a long time to get . He has put them in touch with his mortgage broker who is going through all their accounts this weekend and will say Monday or Tuesday whether there is any hope. Think we will be back on the market again.

CornedBeef451 · 11/07/2022 13:09

Two weeks on and our buyers still haven't got a mortgage offer. This is 3 months since we accepted their offer so no idea what's going on.

I keep readjusting my expectations for a moving date but now I'm worried it's all going to fall through after we've spent thousands on the solicitors fees, survey and all of that nonsense.

Our vendors aren't in a rush but the thought of possibly having to find a new buyer is slightly depressing.

Hope everyone else is progressing.

PiedATerrace · 11/07/2022 13:23

@CornedBeef451 - same here will waiting for the bottom of the chain's offer which is 'with the underwriters' - we are expecting to hear in a week or so.

This morning I had a very long call with our estate agents who (finally) did some in-depth chasing for us and now I have a much clearer idea of where we are.

And where we are is... nowhere near exchange, although our EA is optimistic that we have progressed quite a bit, until the mortgage offer at the bottom is not received the whole thing is a castle of cards which could fall at any moment.

DomusAurea · 11/07/2022 13:30

@Volterra - oh no!! Hope you don't have to get back on the market :( - hope there is hope.

@CornedBeef451 - same here ,also waiting for mortgage offer for buyers' buyers - we found out that the mortgage offer is delayed because they waited until the whole chain was complete to apply, that's why the survey happened only June 20.

OP posts:
DomusAurea · 11/07/2022 13:31

we need to make an offering to the mortgage gods 😑😵😏

OP posts:
DomusAurea · 11/07/2022 13:33

because there's so many of us in a similar situation

OP posts:
Doubleraspberry · 11/07/2022 13:34

Our buyers' survey is happening this week. I am so convinced it'll scare them, as FTB, and we'll be back to square one. Our house is fine but Victorian and a bit damp.

CornedBeef451 · 11/07/2022 14:59

@PiedATerrace and @DomusAurea it's a nightmare isn't it? Why do some people wait so long to sort out the mortgage?

We had an offer in principle and then applied properly as soon as we'd made an offer. The buyers made an offer on ours at the same time so we stupidly thought they'd be doing the same.

CornedBeef451 · 11/07/2022 15:01

@DomusAurea maybe some sort of sacrifice might help.

We should gather and chant at midnight around a fire, although it's too bloody hot for that which might be affecting my rationality at the moment.

DomusAurea · 11/07/2022 17:57

We can meet at midnight and chant around a chilled G&T (or other cold drink) - maybe that will work, and if it won't work after a few it won't matter anymore 😄
