What’s the longest chain you’ve had

What’s the longest chain you’ve had when buying and selling property? We’ve sold ours and our buyer is bottom of chain. Then our seller has had an offer accepted on their onwards and the vendors of that are looking at properties. Honestly, makes my head spin!

How’s it gone for you guys?

In my chain we have 4 houses.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/02/2022 20:15

It was very long and sometimes it would get wrapped around my leg and I'd accidentally pull the plug out!
Usually when my hair was completely soaped up. Confused

We had a chain of 8 😱

BlackAndPinkNose · 07/02/2022 20:29

God we had 6 in our chain. It was awful. DP has said that when we move, he would rather we moved into rented for six months so as not to have to deal with the stress of a chain.

Ladyof · 07/02/2022 20:35

It is going slow! We offered in Sept, our seller found a house in Oct but didn't get offer accepted until Nov and then the bottom.of chain pulled out 2 weeks ago so they have now resold and off we go again. I really hope we are in for mid march to be honest.

How is yours going?

I'm a solicitor and (touch wood) I've never dealt with one longer than 10 - long chains are horrific, discovering you're in one sometimes several times (different clients not immediately linked together) is soul destroying Grin

littlerebellion · 07/02/2022 21:07

Chain of six. With incompetent solicitors. Absolutely fucking car crash that nearly cost me my sanity.

10 is really long! I take it the longer the chain the more time it all takes?!?

And the more likely it is to fall apart!

MrsPluto · 07/02/2022 21:22

We were in a chain of 10 once and the people we were buying from were buying two properties! It was a nightmare with various people threatening to pull out at different points but amazingly we got there in the end!

Very optimistic! 🤪

Cricky, not sure I could cope with a chain of 10. It’s good to know it can work out though. How long did it take??

We were only in a chain of 3 and that was stressful enough! Can’t imagine anything above 4 or 5 - it must take forever!

Hopefully not! We are already up to a chain of 4!!

I’ve done six, it was very stressful but it did go through!

bombombo · 08/02/2022 02:07

@Thethreeofusandpooch generally yeah, trying to get everybody agreeing dates in itself takes forever because there's so many people to get through agreeing and feeding the yes/no/alternative suggestions back down the chain again.

Completion day is also a nightmare, trying to get the top of the chain completed before close of business with that manny transactions for the money to work its way through to get to the top 😬

Pepperama · 08/02/2022 02:37

The supposed cash buyer… who only had cash after his mum gave it to him and who in order to give it him had to sell her house - which was in a chain of 3. Strangely he only told the EA that he didn’t have a house he needed to sell, and they clearly didn’t check his financing properly

lastqueenofscotland · 08/02/2022 10:58

6 but messy - included a divorce and a probate.
Never again.

Thethreeofusandpooch · 08/02/2022 11:12

I suppose it’s great that it all worked out for lots of people. Seriously dreading how long our chain will end up!!!

Hello all. How long do you think it’s acceptable to wait until there is a complete chain? A month in now!
