Help, why is my heating not working?

NotAgain131 · 15/01/2022 11:02

Help needed please. I'm currently sat in the cold wearing my xmas jumper.

The hot water is fine but the heating doesn't seem to be coming on. Usually theres a knob that needs turning inside the boiler and everything is back up and running but that doesn't seem to fix the problem this time.

Any ideas on what it could be or how to sort before I have to find someone to call out and become limbless this month Sad.

I will attach some pictures

They're a bit dark, but looks like you've got both heating and water turned up to max, so it could be the water pump or divert valve not working. Are all the radiators cold?

Ifailed · 15/01/2022 11:06

What is the pressure reading in the 2nd to right dial on the boiler?

ApolloandDaphne · 15/01/2022 11:09

You need @pigletjohn if they are around.

loudbatperson · 15/01/2022 11:12

We had this happen when the valve that controls the flow between the systems got stuck. It was "fixed" at first by the valve being adjusted, a few days later it got stuck the other way way, so it was heating and hot water on together or nothing.

Needed a new valve in the end. I can't remember the cost, but it wasn't a lot.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 15/01/2022 11:16

@NotAgain131 as a former maintenance manager for a housing company I agree with the above, either the diverter valve is blocked/packed up or the pressure is too low. You are in the green but I would expect to see the dial nearer the 2 bar mark. Have you tried topping up the boiler?

Wingedharpy · 15/01/2022 11:19

Does your wireless thermostat box need new batteries?

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 11:21

New batteries ?

Snuggledupforwinter · 15/01/2022 11:22

Batteries in your thermostat need changing or your pressure is too low and needs topping up (we have a combi and there's a water valve that i turn annually just to top up the pressure). Good luck!

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 11:22

Pressure looks fine and there's no error message on your boiler so change the batteries on the thermostat. 4 AA it usually takes

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 11:24

The trick is after replacing the batteries you then turn the temp higher to normal just to check it's working properly.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 11:25

And once it's kicked in and you know it's ok Justin it back down after a few minutes to your desired temp

FitAt50 · 15/01/2022 11:30

Its set at 16c - have you tried turning it up to 24c and see if anything happens.

NotAgain131 · 15/01/2022 11:31

@Ifailed
Yes they are cold.
Dial is on 1

Is there an icon normal shown on the remote controller screen when it's trying to operate the boiler (a flame icon) is this showing?

saleorbouy · 15/01/2022 11:43

Can you override manually and see if the boiler fires?
This will prove the controller is activating the boiler.

MayThePawsBeWithYou · 15/01/2022 11:46

Is the far keft knob turned to the middle setting of radiator and hot water

CrotchetyQuaver · 15/01/2022 11:49

We've had this and it was the heating pump that was at fault and needed replacing.

MayThePawsBeWithYou · 15/01/2022 11:49

On the timer on the right hand side is it set to timer with none of the times set

PigletJohn · 15/01/2022 14:31

if the pressure is in the green and HW is working, it won't be the pressure.

Thermostat in the pic says 16C so turn it up to 21

It believe it is a wireless stat so yes, it might need new batteries. If you can lift it off the wall, take it to the boiler and see if any lights change when you fiddle with it, and change the batts as well

the boiler is not very old so it may not be the diverter valve.

I can't make out the timer but set the boiler control to 24 hour CH and let the thermostat control it.

TheCanyon · 15/01/2022 14:46

I have the same thermostat, it is actually a worcester digistat.

On mine you have to turn it up past 22.5° to get the boiler to kick in.

TheCanyon · 15/01/2022 14:48

This has also made me think, I have no idea how to turn our heating on via the boiler. Need to go investigate

NotAgain131 · 15/01/2022 15:28

OH has gone to buy batteries.

I just noticed the box (pictured) usually it flashes but it's not. Don't know if this will help identify the problem.
