If you had up to a million to spend, where would you live…

Some Sunday Rightmove entertainment. If you could spend up to 1 million, and it didn’t particularly matter where you had to be in the UK - where would you live?

I’ll go first - very charmed by this detached house with swimming pool and private pond. Don’t know the area at all! Would need some decorating but very lovely.

I'd stay within 10 miles of where I am, so the DCs don't have to mvoe school and I don't have to change jobs.
Wouldn't get a lot for a million, compared to some areas, but would at least get a room for each DC.

This is nice and would have 100k leftover for a new kitchen and some furniture, curtains etc.

I like the pool and pond but not keen on the house.

edgeware · 09/01/2022 12:52

@RagzReturnedUnwrapped I like the beams and greenspace!

My house (SW London terrace) cost that so...
But if I could add it to the price of my house I'd move to Parsons Green. Give me another million I'd move to Chelsea.

edgeware · 09/01/2022 12:55

@RagzReturnedUnwrapped it would certainly need some modernising!

I'd go to Devon, right on the edge of Dartmoor, with no near neighbours and plenty of open views.

I probably would win the prize for most underwhelming £1 mililion property.

But this area is v near me and I like it, it has nicely proportioned rooms, it is spacious, there are good schools, i get my nursery and still can keep my home office. Plus I can share the heat with the flat downstairs...

I love this village, close enough that the kids won’t be disturbed too much

That's good value, 7 bedrooms for under a million.

Good sized rooms and garden, I like the tiny balcony too.

Wapping, in one of the (smaller, the big ones are well over a million!) terraced townhouses fronting the Ornamental Canal near Tobacco Dock, a bit like this one: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/114028868#/?channel=RES_BUY

I like Wapping generally, but I like those houses in particular, probably because I run past them so much as they’re one one of my favourite running routes. They rarely come up for sale though and when they do they’re almost always very dates and would need an extra couple of hundred thousand pounds of upgrades and replacements.

This number outside Lewes is in just the right “can live in it while decorating it with fancy wallpaper” condition:

CrimbleCrumble1 · 09/01/2022 17:47

I’d stay in my house.

stairgates · 09/01/2022 17:51

I'd buy next door and knock through!

llamakoala · 09/01/2022 17:56

Would probably live not too far away.. in a small/modest house - and buy a cosy ski chalet in the Alps with a great view. Hopefully that amount of money would cover that Grin

Luckygreenduck · 09/01/2022 17:56

Brighton or similar seaside town. Big old townhouse with bay windows to look out to sea from and loads of period features.
Probably would cost more than a million, too far from my family (which is the most important location factor for me) and my DH wouldnt agree to no parking or garage but in my dream world 100%.

edgeware · 09/01/2022 18:07

@didihearthatright123456 wow very nice!

This one, please. I’ll be redecorating fairly quickly. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/106332740

thefirstmrsrochester · 09/01/2022 18:08

I’d be getting this, a dream of a property, and indeed room for a pony.

London, same area where I do now but bigger!

StrifeOfBath · 09/01/2022 18:47

My choice would be London, so take a deep breath and stand back if you feel the urge to recoil in Price Horror… but this would be a contender for me:

Steps away from a brilliant park with Lido and gym, walking distance to 2 cinemas, to the trendy little centre of H Hill with its farmers market, good bakery, artisan ice cream, niche shops, bars cafes and restaurants. Walkable to Brixton, I love Brixton. Good public transport. Good community feel in the area. The garden is a mess but the price looks negotiable (hasn’t been snapped up) and I would have enough to move the bathroom upstairs, do a loft conversion with shower room, and sort out the garden.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 09/01/2022 18:57

@thefirstmrsrochester Wow! That is absolutely stunning.

There’s not a single thing I don’t like about that! In fact I’m going to pinch the curtain look over the outer door 🥰

RunRunGingerbreadMan · 09/01/2022 19:26

I wouldn't move, but if I had to spend it on the house I'd make all the changes I wanted to to the house and garden to make it perfect. We look onto a forest and I can't see much beating that for us. Might convert a building in the grounds to be a small holiday let or annexe too for a bit of future income (or home for dd/parents if needed at any point).
