Went to the flat yesterday. Finished painting the bathroom ceiling with 2 coats of Zinsser bin permawhite. Installed new CO detector, checked boiler is working, tidied the place up in preparation for the kitchen fitter ( he is due by 29 th November at the latest cos that’s when IKEA finish the delivery- please please please). Here are the “ before” pictures of the kitchen. As you can see it’s no beauty!

I have a rotator cuff injury. One of the questions on the online physio triaging was “ does your job involve painting and decorating”. No but I have repainted 3 bedrooms, half a kitchen and a bathroom since September and I now think the two are linked.

whataboutbob · 21/11/2021 19:51

@MissFritton65 I feel your pain. The endless pushing back of dates aaargh. I admire your stoicism. If my kitchen fitter ( who has pushed date back twice already) cannot start on the 29th I’m going to feel like I’m trapped in a bad remake of Groundhog Day.

MissFritton65 · 21/11/2021 20:02

@whataboutbob we'll be in The Maldives will he's cracking on - probably not worth making a fuss! 😊😊

MissFritton65 · 21/11/2021 20:02

*while he

Callmejudith · 21/11/2021 21:31

@whataboutbob sorry about your injury - sounds sore! I’m so impressed by how much you’ve done yourself

@MissFritton65 that's shit on the decorator.

Sorry to hear about your injury @whataboutbob

Our French doors, front door and staircase are all delayed till 3rd December... means the final plastering and decorating are delayed 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Radiators can't go back on walls till decorating done, so the heating is off and needs to be on for 2 weeks before wood floor repairs start on 1st December, so missed that deadline big time.

Hope bath shows up this week!!!

whataboutbob · 21/11/2021 22:07

Thanks @Callmejudith it’s a combination of being a penny pincher and just finding it easier to do it myself rather than try and find someone reliable. DS18 helped with one room, but he had to be incentivised!

whataboutbob · 21/11/2021 22:08

Fingers crossed for the bath @PoshWatchShitShoes. It’s really frustrating re the plastering and wood floors. Talk about a domino effect!

MissFritton65 · 21/11/2021 22:20

@PoshWatchShitShoes I've come to the conclusion that life is generally sh*t and when building it's double shit!

wonkylegs · 21/11/2021 22:55

Fingers crossed our last minute replacement plasterer is coming tomorrow afternoon and thinks he can do it all this week ready for the electrician the following week - I'm at the point that I'll only believe it when I see it.

MissFritton65 · 21/11/2021 23:14

@wonkylegs I agree it's only happening when you see it! The rest is builder's b*lsht!

Hothammock · 22/11/2021 09:26

Morning everyone. Well done for surviving another weekend in your dens of dust.

I'm waiting for the door fitters and the doors. He said today at 9am.
My sit in vigil is well under way. Anyone want to wager bets on whether they will or won't make an appearance?

I'm on the brink now of considering my legal options.

Callmejudith · 22/11/2021 11:33

@Hothammock as you know I've been there and can entirely empathise, it's so so shit.

I love our floor guy, he's so good and just solves problems. He's knocked out a random doorway in about 3 seconds. He did say almost every wall in the kitchen isn't straight. I just don't have the energy for it. He's recommended we leave the hallway until it's been stripped, plastered and decorated otherwise the floor will get ruined so I think though I'd love it done astheticlally it's a good choice to wait. He's cracking on with the kitchen now.

We have been advised to leave the hall flooring until the very last thing too! We are having reclaimed parquet so that won't be done until February/March; that looks terrifyingly far away written down! I'm not sure my nerves will stand another 3 months of this!

Hothammock · 22/11/2021 12:45

Omg
The doors are here
Well 3 sets out of 4

Callmejudith · 22/11/2021 12:46

It's annoying but the right decision. He also wants to put a coir mat in front of the front door rather than starting the floor from the doorway. We have a big space under the hallway boards that our neighbours use for storage and we've never bothered doing it but I think it's going on the project list for next year.

Also had a call from our kitchen fitter who is going to come on Thursday afternoon and fit the missing doors, splashback and extractor fan whoop.

Just been home and the plasterers are boarding the kitchen and apparently the tiles are due next Tuesday to lay the flooring. Looking like a step forward day!

Callmejudith · 22/11/2021 13:17

Just had a peek downstairs and the flooring looks amazing in the kitchen light. They've also moved the fridge into its rightful place and it looks lush. There's so much "living" space in the room now. Delighted.

Doors Frames don't slip in, the render beading is making the opening too

Hothammock · 22/11/2021 13:51

Sorry clicked post too soon.
Door Frames don't slip in, the render beading is making the opening too narrow. So bloody idiots have smashed one side of the render. This means the k rend is now damaged and as anyone who has k rend will know we may as well have driven a tractor into it.
Despite having said don't touch the k rend, chop the plaster instead, they did not believe me.
Is it because I am a woman.

I am so fed up with all this.

Callmejudith · 22/11/2021 13:56

Oh no @Hothammock bloody idiots. Will you be able to get the doors in and sort the render later? I know that's not ideal in the slightest though

OP posts:
Hothammock · 22/11/2021 14:01

Yeah that will have to be the way forward @callmejudith.
Tbh the real problem is that due to all the covid related delays this year everything is out of order. Ideally the doors would go in before the render etc. But it's just impossible to get anything done without a bit of creative reordering!
The damage is done now, hopefully next set of doors will be easier and less of a squeeze.

Ecthelion · 22/11/2021 14:07

Another day of no shows! We had two days of people on site last week, and there's literally less than a week worth of work left to do but no-one is turning up. It's all subcontractor work now and the main builder seems to have pretty much washed his hands of organising it. We've had two weeks left of work left to do for about three months now! So frustrating. Should have fired them months ago for not turning up and used the contingency to fund new people.

Callmejudith · 22/11/2021 15:21

@PoshWatchShitShoes sorry didn't reply about your delays. ARGH. Christmas dinner in the bath??

@Ecthelion I fear we're going to have to fire and source ourselves for this last bit. Builder has gone v v v quiet.
