Oh no @MissFritton65. Leak on ceiling is horrendous at this stage. Hope it's found quickly. Totally agree it's a rollercoaster of yay, shit, yay, oh no, yay, crap 🤦🏼‍♀️

That's amazing @niki26. Fingers crossed you get your decs up!!

I'm being relaxed today. Christmas is already ruined in my head, so I'm going to try to be less stressy about any disappointment of some asshole not showing up when they are meant to 😢

whataboutbob · 14/12/2021 09:47

Fingers crossed for you today @MissFritton65 I hope the leak can be nipped in the bud quickly. Good plan @PoshWatchShitShoes I also have to take a mind over matter approach and remember the serenity prayer “ God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference”. I cannot stop my kitchen fitter having covid, the utility company at the flat massively cocking up the bills and being impervious to my emails and letters, IKEA delivering the wrong kitchen. But I can go to the property and remove all the trash of the old kitchen so saving money by not using a clearance company, start the IKEA returns process, keep meticulous records of correspondence with SSE etc. Thought for the Day over! Good luck all!

niki26 · 14/12/2021 10:19

Very positive @whataboutbob !!

I have got a million photos during the refurb (taken mainly by builder - I've barely been o the property!) but I thought this was quite a nice before/after!

Looks great @niki26 that will be an amazing space to be come the spring and summer!

Callmejudith · 14/12/2021 10:49

@LimpLettice not a good start with the drainage - can they reinstate it?

@PoshWatchShitShoes sorry I missed your message about a nomad Christmas - I'm sure it'll still be special

@MrsF nooooo for the leak!!

@niki26 big fingers crossed for decorations up at the weekend. Those photos are fabulous - what a great transformation

When we moved we compromised - we've got a bigger house (double the space of our previous teeny but lovely two up two down) but the garden is a lot smaller. We definitely needed the indoor space more but we've completely redone the patio as well, so I'm looking forward to finally using it all.

MissFritton65 · 14/12/2021 11:11

The project manager thinks it's condensation from the plaster drying out rather than a leak which obviously easier to fix. I hope he's right. He also said they would cover the repainting costs.

LimpLettice · 14/12/2021 11:36

@Callmejudith I've literally just come in from having a chat about needing my washing machine! They told me to use it tonight as it will just spill into the channels which are having all the footings poured tomorrow. Then they will rig it round to rainwater drain for a few days until the manhole is moved. Building control on their way to check the footings today. The cat is most perturbed as the main channel is under where her cat flap exits 😂

Fingers crossed @MissFritton65

wonkylegs · 14/12/2021 14:37

@niki26 looks great - always love a good before and after
Not good to hear about leaks and broken drainage.
Traditionally the weeks leading up to Christmas are always manic in construction but this year they are definitely worse than usual.
I think @whataboutbob 's serenity prayer is probably not a bad idea - I'll back it up with copious amounts of mulled wine, to see me through.

Callmejudith · 14/12/2021 17:11

I just have to say despite my many many shitty tradespeople, my electrician has been bloody brilliant. Turns up when he says he's going to, super clear pricing and invoicing, meets time deadlines, never forgets anything from the list. Today we had some issues with the kitchen circuit tripping and he came straight after he finished another job and fixed it.

whataboutbob · 14/12/2021 17:52

@Callmejudith some have said there’s a hierarchy of trades with electricians at the top, I’m inclined to agree. And a good plumber is worth a price beyond rubies ( they do exist)!
My kitchen fitter just texted me to say he’s feeling well, is bored and thinking of coming back to work next week and did I mind? Is the Pope a Catholic? Does a bear go to toilet in the woods? 😆

wonkylegs · 14/12/2021 19:26

@Callmejudith our electricians are the best and most reliable of our trades.

Callmejudith · 15/12/2021 07:31

That’s really interesting. I reckon DS9 is going to be in the trade so electrics it is Grin

The pink paint for the downstairs loo is here, it’s divine

@Indecisivelurcher that looks great; you must be delighted!

Callmejudith · 15/12/2021 09:49

So lovely @Indecisivelurcher you must be over the moon. It’s so lovely to see the space also with family “stuff” in it being used and enjoyed

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 15/12/2021 09:52

It's so much brighter, and it's given us so much more usable space. Yesterday I was prepping dinner while Dd did craft and the table and ds played kitchens at the end. This would not have been possible before as would have been 3 different rooms, 2 of them dark and one of them freezing!

niki26 · 15/12/2021 09:52

@Indecisivelurcher that's absolutely beautiful! You must be so pleased!

Ecthelion · 15/12/2021 10:15

We started our "six months" project in February 2020 and just got practical completion certificate yesterday! For everyone having a tough time - hang in there, you'll get it done in the end! It's a tough time to be building and while I wouldn't say our project has been worth it - both in terms of stress and financially - it's a great space and we're really enjoying using it. You really do forget about the bad bits or look back on them and laugh.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 15/12/2021 10:40

Can't wait to see the painted room @Callmejudith. Such a fab colour!

Wonderful update @Indecisivelurcher. Such a fabulous space and all ready for Christmas 👏 🤩🥂

Callmejudith · 15/12/2021 12:54

Sounds idyllic! I've just ordered the sofa for the kitchen to come on the 22nd. Another ikea one. I am ridiculously excited about having a sofa in there and also for the decorator to be done so we can bring down the dining table and chairs.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 15/12/2021 14:19

A house full of people. There must be about 30 tradesmen inside. Plasterers still MIA, but...

I'm in love with my new front door. Thank Christ for that.

Wish me luck for the staircase, which is being installed today too 😂

Callmejudith · 15/12/2021 15:55

Oh yes! That door is fabulous.

I just checked the bank balance and had a heart attack then realised that I'd forgotten to amend the settings on the hefty credit card and it had taken the full balance rather than a set payment - doh!

Didn't quite realise the sparkies were fitting disco lights 😂
