Callmejudith- argh, hope it goes ok!!

Love the windows too.

Callmejudith · 11/11/2021 17:26

So the doors are in but can't be opened because the manufacturer didn't put the little brushes on the top FFS. So that's a call into the company first thing.

They look beautiful though

Nice sliders @Callmejudith, they are very like my Air 600s. Very glad we didn't go for bi-folds now

MissFritton65 · 11/11/2021 18:30

We also have some of our sliders in place!

They look great MrsF!

We’ve been hit with our first unexpected cost which is £1750 for the plumber. I didn’t realise the quote didn’t include plumbing in the kitchen but I am going to ask for a breakdown.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/11/2021 19:26

Yay great to see your new doors @Callmejudith and @MissFritton65!! They look beautiful 👏

Ouch to the plumbing costs @Callmejudith!! Trades seem to just make up how much they fancy charging. Our electrician has whacked on extras every visit 🙈

@LivingInABuildingSite they're Heritage Brass Victorian Elite in Nickel, which looks a lot nicer than the stainless steel finish. I'm just browsing online to see if I can a get cheaper price!!

MissFritton65 · 11/11/2021 19:40

Thanks @PoshWatchShitShoes!
@Callmejudith we seem to paying lots over as we keep adding jobs plus upping the spec however my husband has sourced lots of the materials so we have made savings too so hopefully it will even out!

Terracedtardis · 11/11/2021 20:13

Gorgeous doors!
Our builders sanded the walls today and the dust has managed to get into some gaps in the floor and cover everything in the upstairs of our house. All of our sheets and towels in our airing cupboard, which is where the gaps were, are covered. I’m going to have to wash it all and we don’t have our washing machine plumbed in yet.

Terracedtardis · 11/11/2021 20:16

@PoshWatchShitShoes I’d say don’t go for flat sockets. We used to have them and they never looked right on the walls. Maybe ours were badly installed but they looked messy and unfinished around the edges to me.

MissFritton65 · 11/11/2021 20:57

@Terracedtardis I've given up with the dust. We have all our belongings in the house either in the loft or 3 rooms and the builders are demolishing walls in every other space; it's horrendous! They have taken the empty rooms to bare brick and taken up the floors. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever get dust free!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/11/2021 21:05

The dust is unbelievable!! I need to get a post build cleaning quote.

Will add to the list for tomorrow. Night night all zzzzzzz

Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 06:28

The dust is horrendous

I’m glad I’m not the only one with extras. It’s just annoying that they’ve shoved it on with no discussion. I have a feeling it includes doing the radiator which was part of the original quote. On the other hand this is our only additional cost so far and the builders have stuck to their fixed quote so maybe I just pay it?

Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 07:50

Anyone remember our drama with the rooflight size back in September? It’s supposed to be installed today and guess what? The idiots have cancelled the wrong order so the one that’s in the office ready to install is too big. Absolute numpties.

Waiting for a call back once he’s spoken to the manufacturers.

We’re paying £200 for a industrial dehumidifier for a week as requested by our floor guy to dry out the room - might as well light £200 on fire

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/11/2021 08:08

@Callmejudith oh bugger, total idiots. It's a worry every day in case someone has fucked something up. I hope they can make the right size one immediately for you!!

I went to site late last night and the shower tiles in the guest bathroom have been hacked off. Messaged the foreman and apparently they weren't straight 🤦🏼‍♀️ They looked perfect to me, so I may have been fine with them as they were, especially as I just want them to finish and go!!

StrongArm · 12/11/2021 08:09

after our last build, we paid an 'after build' cleaning company to come in. I can really recommend it if you have money in your contingency budget! We needed to wait a week to make sure all the dust had settled!

love love those windows!

@Callmejudith I think if you've got this far without any extras you've done amazingly well because usually there's some horror they unearth along the way (damp, rot, something in the wrong place etc. etc.!!)

Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 08:12

I figure that a rooflight that doesn’t even open can’t be that hard to rush through? Let’s see.

Yes @StrongArm you’re completely right. The only other thing we’ve had is the extra steel but they’ve not given us details of price for that and I’m keeping quiet.

DH has gone into total catastrophe mode which is fun

OP posts:
Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 08:13

@PoshWatchShitShoes when are they going to put the tiles back???

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/11/2021 08:40

Agree with @StrongArm. Amazing you're nearly done with no earlier overspend.

We've had so much extra structural stuff crop up. Just got another invoice through from the structural engineer for £480 🤪

@Callmejudith I hope today and tomorrow for tiler. He wasn't due back till Monday, but he needs to start the kitchen floor then or we miss all the other deadlines. Hate this process. I can't control it as closely as I want.

Waiting on master bath update. It's apparently coming off a container today.

Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 08:53

Phew and at least you know the tiler is quick!

This process is exhausting isn’t it? Just up and down constantly. I’ve put on weight from eating crap and too much wine, have no energy, just about performing at work, sick of living in a shithole.

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/11/2021 10:55

@Callmejudith yup on the eating rubbish. It's my coping mechanism it seems!! Eat my feelings 🙈

LivingInABuildingSite · 12/11/2021 10:59

Bad luck on the floor light drama callmejudith, hope wine later helps!
Am with you on the stress eating, but mostly drinking, oops.

Think they are finishing off odd bits of plaster boarding today. Plasterer on standby for next week 🤞

Then can get kitchen delivered even if not fitted. And fabulous new fridge freezer which we can hopefully get plumbed in (to keep Ds1 happy) before Christmas, extra food (& wine) storage yey! 😂

What are you all doing Re extractors in kitchens? I have ducting in the ceiling ready for a flat against the ceiling style one, but the howdens one is fairly fat.
Looking online there are slimline ones that I’d prefer. Have asked howdens for their price so I can see what more I might be spending.

Hoovering up dust before BIl, SIL & toddler nephew come for the weekend, it’s hardly a toddler friendly house, oops.

Callmejudith · 12/11/2021 11:26

Rooflight now going in next Wednesday, not ideal but at least we don’t have to delay the flooring. The light coming through the doors is absolutely gorgeous I have to say.

Extractor wise we have a chimney hood which is ducted out onto the pitched roof bit of the extension.

I’ve given up waiting for our tiler to come back and grout the WC so I’m going to do it myself. Wish me luck!!!

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/11/2021 17:55

@LivingInABuildingSite I'm having a canopy hood built around my range cooker.

Just back from London and popped into site. They've now fitted 10 of the windows hooray, ceilings have been plastered and they've started putting up coving.

I want them to be quicker 😂 Still haven't decided any wall colours 🙈

MissFritton65 · 12/11/2021 20:57

Our builders have knocked down one of the internal wall and put the steel in today so can finally see the space that is going to be my kitchen. The sliders are going in on Monday so it's definitely moving at a pace! The room goes back another 4.5m from the line on the floor so 8.5m long.
