@Callmejudith would be great to see it thanks!

thanks @MilkTart and @Indecisivelurcher - that's really useful. You've both got v similar issues to me! Looks great the way you've resolved it and thanks for the pics.

I am leaning towards losing the chimney breast as I think it makes the house 'feel' better though it's sad! As dp pointed out this morning, we rarely light the fire in the dining room anyway as we do use it as a dining room

Callmejudith · 01/11/2021 11:27

Yey for the skylight @Indecisivelurcher obviously we need pics when it’s in

Indecisivelurcher · 01/11/2021 11:28

I'm pretty sure i would keep the fire and forget about having a line of sight when you come in the front door Grin

Oooooohhhh, that's lovely!

Hothammock · 01/11/2021 12:32

@Indecisivelurcher wow it's suddenly all coming together! Looks fabulous!

Callmejudith · 01/11/2021 13:18

That’s absolutely fabulous!

Velux windows! I understand that there is a shortage of these but ours seems to be delayed. We were told 20 working days which would have been sometime next week but now we are told estimated delivery of 16th December.

Where are you all getting yours from?

PoshWatchShitShoes · 01/11/2021 14:30

Wow @Indecisivelurcher 🤩

Stunning. Love love love 👏

StrongArm · 01/11/2021 14:33

Oooh fabulous @Indecisivelurcher !

sluj · 01/11/2021 14:34

@Indecisivelurcher, looks good !
It's very like mine and I have discovered how much flies and wasps like to get trapped inside it and then quietly expire on the little ledge all around it Grin
Next year, when the room is in use, I am not opening those sliding doors!!

Callmejudith · 01/11/2021 14:36

@Notyetthere our velux took ages

@Indecisivelurcher that looks fantastic!

My husband has had to drive down to Stoke as we were some tiles for the bathroom short and they weren't getting them into the store until Wednesday so he's gone to the warehouse to collect them! Thankfully he wasn't too busy with work todayGrin

LivingInABuildingSite · 01/11/2021 14:56

Hope to copy you tomorrow IndecisiveLurcher.

Which will go in first do you think, the lantern or the bifolds? Builders reckon lantern. Can’t wait to see it!

Notyetthere · 01/11/2021 15:00

@Callmejudith oh no! Not what I wanted to read. And now it is raining again and the rain is driving through the gaps in which these veluxes are supposed to be. Gah!

Seems to be like everyone is having issues with their builders and other trades but we are having issues with the supply chain.

Indecisivelurcher · 01/11/2021 15:12

@Notyetthere our glass was all delayed too, the fitter was telling me all their projects are really delayed, he said the suppliers blame covid and Brexit but he reckons they are mainly really busy with extra people doing home renos dreamt up during lockdown.

Thanks for all the lantern love, ladies!

Notyetthere · 01/11/2021 16:16

@Indecisivelurcher Hooray for being weatherproofed. That is a beautiful lantern 😍. We might get our builder round to install a more permanent solution for the next month as we can't be dealing with water pouring onto the floors everytime it rains. I'm also assuming we can't complete the bathroom 2nd fix, tiling, etc until after the windows are in. There is two veluxes in the bathroom.

In the meantime, plasterer is to start installing the insulation in the loft this week. Then plasterboarding and plastering next week. Whilst not having windows is great for drying out plaster with the through breeze, I don't know whether we can get painting without the windows. Or electrics 2nd fix?

Callmejudith · 01/11/2021 16:19

We have done our second fix electrics without our rooflight or sliding doors in however they are almost watertight with tarp and plywood. Not flooring though.

Evening ladies - feeling exhausted with all of the endless decisions. How have you been coping? Anyone else wanting to run away?

I know we're really lucky, but Christ I've had enough 🙈

Notyetthere · 01/11/2021 22:04

@Callmejudith that is reassuring that we can get on with other things whilst we wait for the veluxes . We could get away without the windows in the dormer as that is still under the tin hat. It's the three veluxes that aren't protected by a tin hat. Currently double layered with felt. We will have a chat with our builder tomorrow about plywood and tarpaulin as we have another month of inadequate protection from driving rain.

I feel your pain! It is exhausting and we seem to still have a long way to go. Unfortunately there is no going back, we just have to plough on but it is depressing especially in this awful weather.
LivingInABuildingSite · 02/11/2021 08:39

Waiting for bifold/lantern people…..they did say about 9 to be fair but my builders are here from 8, so feels like we’re waiting ages.

Hothammock · 02/11/2021 13:23

@notyetthere we have no windows or doors but we do have sky lanterns in (different supplier who seemed unaffected by these ridiculous delays unlike my door people). We have done pretty much everything except the reveals for the door and window openings. Electrics done and signed off. Painting done except for top coat. Skirtings done.
When the windows go in we will be days away from total finish.
They are due in 3 weeks and the doors are due next week. Any more delay and I will be so desperate.

Callmejudith · 02/11/2021 13:54

@LivingInABuildingSite did they turn up? Hope it's all going well.

Electricians doing the circuit board today, oh my god the mess. I feel like my whole house is being destroyed.

Also builders were supposed to be coming to remove a load of crap that has been left in our kitchen......wondering whether they'll turn up

@PoshWatchShitShoes I feel ya.

Callmejudith · 02/11/2021 14:51

FFS someone has put a tin of paint in our skip and it's spilled all over the road. We've had no painting done so for once I can't blame the builder. The builder is going to bring a jet wash tomorrow and try and sort it out but gggrrr
