@Callmejudith walls are expensive. It might be cheaper to buy new bricks, ask what they think. How big is the wall?

HappyBackHome · 24/10/2021 18:59

Quite excited here!

The roofer was here today and should be completely finished tomorrow, then the scaffolding can finally come down, so the windows and doors can go in later this week Grin.

DH and DDad have got all the plumbing in place for the bathroom now, and DH and I have just finished cutting and dry laying the first layer of plywood for the base layer of flooring in the bathroom today, it's starting to look more like a real room, and looks bigger than I imagined tooGrin!

Everyone else seems to be further along in kitchen completions than us, loving all the pictures Smile (I haven't even ordered the kitchen yet...) but I expected that we will be much slower as we are doing most of it ourselves from now on...Shock, which is equal parts exciting and terrifying tbh Grin!

HappyBackHome · 24/10/2021 19:02

Forgot the pictures!

Oh, and @Callmejudith the Dyson in the first picture is our 'building works' vacuum cleaner... I have also been hoovering the screed, so you're not alone Grin!

Interested in what you all think. We are going double storey as we need more
bedrooms desperately. Ignore all the bathrooms the architect has gone bathroom crazy! We won't be able to afford to put them all in when it comes to it.

The kitchen is north facing so I am really worried about lack of light but as you can see from the last photo (diy kitchens mock up) I thought we could put some big windows on the west elevation. The second floor plan shows the single storey bit below better, so basically we will have a roof light directly over the hob area.

@nomoneytreehere love the kitchen visual. Just a thought for your utility area, the little corridor seems a waste... I'd push the toilet back where the utility is and have a bigger utility on both sides where the utility is on the plan (pocket door into the WC).

Sorry, I know you didn't ask that question!! I spent 3 years playing with our plans, so now it's a habit to faff with floor plans 😂

I agree with this, we've gone that way round.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2021 20:52

Is anyone thinking about paint colours yet? Really hard to know what to go for when we have no rug or sofa yet. But was thinking of painting it Tuesday!

MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 21:39

I've got an interior designer booked for 3 weeks although I've already got some ideas for colours.

MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 21:42

@nomoneytreehere we are having a pocket door between our utility and toilet.

Indecisivelurcher · 25/10/2021 07:34

Monday again! This week I'm hoping for, second fix electrics, a roof lantern, a roof garden, and a start on the flooring.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/10/2021 09:13

Tiler is on site today, so I'm off to look at the tiles before they're laid 👏

I'm also meeting the flooring repair guy to see if our wood floor is salvageable 🙈🤞

Yes, I'm working through colours... I need to get a move on an order fabric, so the blinds can be made BEFORE Christmas!!

Callmejudith · 25/10/2021 09:34

Who was looking at slaked lime? Saw this on Instagram this morning

I think we’re going to be quiet this week. Waiting game is on for doors and worktop. Second fix electrics need to be finished and a hole drilled for the extractor vent.

Happy Monday All!

More plaster board delivered, more battening going up.

Mostly filling time until glasswork hopefully comes next week.

Re colours: very boring here, white walls and ceilings. May commit to something in the future but just want clean finished walls for a while. Used to have loads of colour in our old flat but haven’t decided on anything here. Only been 17 years 😂

Callmejudith · 25/10/2021 13:57

Feeling distinctly meh today. I really want my house back with a working cooker. I am craving roast vegetables

Indecisivelurcher · 25/10/2021 16:08

Sounds like me last week @callmejudith - sympathy!

We've got lights and sockets here, they make such a difference!!!

I'm off to buy a couple of paint testers. I'm a bit allergic to neutral, more into boho abs travel stuff. But I get toned down by dh. So think doing dulux just walnut on most of it, then a colour block where the sofa will go, maybe a pink or copper. I am trying to resist my favourite, green, because I would happily paint everything green! Will be adding in a bright/or brown leather look sofa and bright rug, wicker toy storage, large house plant etc...

Last week it was an unbearable mess so far from finishing, all of a sudden its coming together. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Callmejudith · 25/10/2021 16:20

We have sockets but no lights, electrician needs to confirm which day they are coming this week to finish off.

Just got a text to say our worktop install will be 4th November - I thought it would be at least a week later so I’m delighted

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/10/2021 18:47

@Callmejudith it's me with the Slaked Lime. I love that Insta account. I never post, but just follow loads of beautiful renovations, as the "after" photos keep me motivated living with the "before" 😂

My worktop templating needs to be pushed back to 26th November and I've just pushed kitchen painting back back to 29th November. We're basically running 2 weeks behind 😭

I wanted everyone gone by 1st December, but now it looks like our kitchen won't be fully finished till 13th December.

First world problems, but I love Christmas and wanted the whole month to shimmer and sparkle it!!!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/10/2021 18:48

Yay for your worktop installation @Callmejudith. That's such an exciting step 🤩

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/10/2021 18:50

@Indecisivelurcher Just Walnut is a lovely colour. So many gorgeous greens...my friend just did her bedroom wardrobes in Card Room Green, which looks beautiful. Phia Green is stunning too. I've got it on a reserve list for my kitchen island... which will actually probably end up navy, but I love the deep green too

maofteens · 25/10/2021 19:00

Argh! After moaning at me about my kitchen measurements, the fitters made adjustments to the height of the base units as I got a 20mm worktop rather than the 30mm they suggested. (Which would cost £1000 more). My backsplash tiles are hexagonal with a pattern and the whole idea was that they could fit two tiles between work surface and wall units so they didn’t have to be cut (obviously some will, but two full tiles height was what they were aiming for). I had the tiles on site, they even took account of the grout… So kitchen in and tiler and I are looking at it today and no! Of course they don’t fit! He will have to trim them by a centimetre each! I’m hoping as they will be up to wall units I won’t see this but so frustrating and so much extra work for the tiler! Measure, measure again and do your sums right!

Callmejudith · 25/10/2021 19:07

Sooo annoying!

Indecisivelurcher · 25/10/2021 19:21

Yeah green is just the best...

PoshWatchShitShoes · 25/10/2021 19:53

That's a bugger @maofteens. Glad he's come up with an option for you.

So many things I'm making decisions on, then closing my eyes and hoping for the best 🙈

Terracedtardis · 25/10/2021 20:02

I’m going boring white too. The kitchen is cobham Blue and we were worried a colour would make the room too dark. I’m thinking mustard or ochre accents though to add some colour.
I’m going for Lick green 04 in my living room though. DH isn’t keen but I’ve overruled him 😆
