@RebelGeek76 your kitchen is looking fabulous. The island looks much bigger than 2.4 m. I was worrying that 2.6 wouldn't be big enough in our plans but you have made me think it will be ok.

I agree that the island looks huge which is why I asked as I, too, was thinking about mine!

MissFritton65 · 23/10/2021 18:22

Roof is just awaiting tiles and the veluxes. Unfortunately top window needs attention ie replaced by a smaller one due to the pitch of the roof! 1 step forward.....1 back!

I am loving the pictures on this thread and have complete envy as I can't get any quotes even!! Totally stuck due to lack of builders - ours is a big job and higher risk in these times.
Gorgeous island @RebelGeek76.

NewHouseNewMe · 23/10/2021 19:11

@MissFritton65 is that the window above the new pitched roof? Do you think the pitched roof is at correct angle? Our council is really strict on height of new roofs so it might be worth checking height/pitch carefully. The space is looking really good, you're going so fast.

MissFritton65 · 23/10/2021 19:16

The pitch is correct but the window is large so it's being replaced with a smaller (shorter) one. We also have to put in a window to the left as you look as the next bedroom has lost it's window as it now behind the extension!

Terracedtardis · 23/10/2021 19:23

My roof lights are finally in!! Only now I think maybe I went too small 😬

I don't think so - they look in proportion to the roof to me.
PoshWatchShitShoes · 23/10/2021 20:23

@Terracedtardis amazing to see roof lights 👏

Hoovering screed hahaha... heard it all now @Callmejudith. Shopping for kitchen bits sounds fabulous. I've been admiring the utensil insert in my new kitchen drawers... definitely requires posh new matching accessories, rather than bits and pieces I've acquired from random places over past 20 years 😂

Our bathroom tiling starts on Monday!!!!!

Chumleymouse · 23/10/2021 21:24

@MissFritton65

There is no way I could ever work on someone’s house and leave it in that state ( mess). I’ve never been the fastest of workers , but I like it nice and tidy.

They must be tripping over everything ? Do they not have a skip ?

MissFritton65 · 23/10/2021 21:31

Sadly it isn't their fault as our council are being very difficult; it took 7 months to get planning permission for access to our garage. Very complex but has been now resolved so there is a skip coming on Tuesday and they can get a digger in.
It took 8 weeks to get a scaffolding licence, cost £875 and they sent a clerk from the Town Hall to collect the paperwork as the Mayor had to sign it off and apparently he only does that on Wednesdays!!! You couldn't write it.

Callmejudith · 24/10/2021 09:17

@Terracedtardis where on earth do you live? I love your roof lights they look great.

@mrsfritton your space is lush

Doing some washing today and the machine are quite loud but I think that’s because we have no door on the room. I’ve ordered some of those vibration mats to put under to see if it helps.

MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 09:43

@Callmejudith I've heard good things about the vibration mats 🤞🤞 it works.

nomoneytreehere · 24/10/2021 11:08

Googling vibration mats!!

My husband is driving me insane. Despite agreeing the plans he is now saying he doesn't like how we have designed it and wants to change something pretty fundamental. I wouldn't mind if it was just internal layout (as we can fiddle with that after planning) but he wants to get rid of a bit of single storey (that was put in so we could have a roof light) and make the whole thing double storey. I'm worried it will be a dark cave. He says where the roof light will be is stupid (directly above the kitchen area) and we won't get the look we want anyhow. I've put the architect on hold.....

MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 11:44

@Nomoneytreehere which way is the room facing? Your husband's suggestion will definitely be darker than the original plan but it's very hard to say how much darker without more details.

Callmejudith · 24/10/2021 11:55

@nomoneytreehere what would double storey give you? An extra bedroom or just hallway space? We have a rooflight above our kitchen area and it’s lovely. So nice to have natural light there.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2021 12:39

@nomoneytreehere oof! That's difficult. I found out really hard to decide what to do here, have so many ideas plotted out, no architect so just me and my squared paper. Even now I question why we didn't go 2 storey. In reality the reasons were needing to get planning permission then (hassle factor) and stairs up making the downstairs narrow. Can you draw things out yourself to help the decision making?

DH and I are mist coating today while the kids trash the rest of the house. Last time I checked ds aged 4 had a dress and lip gloss on and was eating Dd's birthday sweets...

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2021 12:41

I actually wish we'd gone 2 storey now, because now it's built and the steel is in, I can see how it would have worked. But i won't ever tell anyone that irl!

MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 12:58

I think there are so many decisions when planning extensions that you can become overwhelmed and lose sight.
We sat down and listed the "must haves", "desirables" and "fantasies" then looked at total available space and then started drawing but as always price is a massive factor especially at the moment. So far I'm pleased with what we went for especially as we have made internal changes as the space has been built.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2021 13:34

Depending on what order these photos end up in, this is where my half-kitchen will be, the new extension which was a dark box room and conservatory before, and the outlier, which was a dark dining end before.

Outlier was supposed to say utility, although it's more of a w.c and washing machine + cupboard.

Callmejudith · 24/10/2021 15:06

That looks fab - wonderful light

OP posts:
MissFritton65 · 24/10/2021 15:49

@Indecisivelurcher that's looking really good; you must be so pleased with extra space and the light it brings in.

Callmejudith · 24/10/2021 16:13

We need to get a wall rebuilt between us and the neighbour as it’s on its last legs. Been quoted £2.6k to take down the existing, clean all the bricks and rebuild. No idea if that is extortionate or not
