@Indecisivelurcher. It does look large , maybe looks bigger because it’s white ? It might have been less noticeable if it was the same colour as the doors ?

Indecisivelurcher · 19/10/2021 19:02

I have no idea. Necessary because of the warm roof was mentioned. They're huge. And white. Ffs.

Chumleymouse · 19/10/2021 19:15

Warm roof means they have put the insulation on top of the roof instead of between the roof timbers. This is generally considered a better way to insulate flat roof designs to eliminate any condensation issues. The down side is it makes the roof taller and that is why the fascia is so high to cover it all .
Is there any guttering to go on it ? I’ve also seen people put an additional trim on it to make it not look like one big Piece of fascia.

Look on the internet for possible solutions.... there are always remedies for problems ..... sometimes just takes a bit of time/ head scratching to sort it. 👍

wonkylegs · 19/10/2021 19:35

Warm roof is deeper these days but that's just poor detailing as it can be hidden better than that, I do it all the time. (Architect as well as having my own extension done)

wonkylegs · 19/10/2021 19:36

The white really doesn't help

Indecisivelurcher · 19/10/2021 19:59

Best plan I've got is to render the extension... ConfusedGrinWine

Callmejudith · 19/10/2021 20:27

The white definitely doesn’t help but I’m sure there must be something you can do.

Plumber has found the cause of the water leak thank goodness. Big test if the pressure holds overnight

PoshWatchShitShoes · 19/10/2021 21:10

@Callmejudith fingers crossed on the leak fix!!

NewHouseNewMe · 19/10/2021 23:47

@Indecisivelurcher - i noticed our neighbour's new extension also has a deep fascia like yours. I have no idea if it featured on the design though.

@Callmejudith the kitchen is looking amazing..I have severe envy.

@MissFritton65 what an extension! It's gorgeous. Are you doubling the sq footage?

MissFritton65 · 20/10/2021 08:38

@Newhousenewme yes we are so it is a very big job; they started at the end of February but we have a few delays due to issues with access caused by the Council. Thankfully they are now resolved so I'm hoping it's full steam ahead and we will have usable space for Christmas as both children are due home and currently don't have anywhere to put them!
Still no heating as the engineer didn't appear yesterday but thankfully it's quite mild weather so not too bad. We are expecting the bathroom fittings today so they can start putting those in our ensuite as the tiler is due next week. Once the ensuite is finished, they rip out our family bathroom and do that so we'll always have functional toilet!! My husband is ordering the fittings but we are struggling for storage space so it a tricky process especially with supply/delivery delays.
Good luck to everyone for today!

Callmejudith · 20/10/2021 08:56

It’ll be amazing when it’s done MrsFritton.

Loads of rain last night which got in through the rooflight opening. Have asked builder to come and try and make it water tight.

Kids had breakfast in the kitchen this morning, albeit on a plywood worktop and still the washing up bowl for the bath but we’re getting there. We’re heading to the pro cook outlet shop on Saturday which could be dangerous

They finished fitting the windows in the dark last night so have got photos this morning.
Plasterboard to do the remaining walls arrived first thing followed shortly by a text from the builder apologising for getting the day wrong and the plasterer would be with us NEXT weds not today. Grr I was getting excited now a bit disappointed again.

MissFritton65 · 20/10/2021 09:57

@wonkylegs that looks an amazing space! What is it going to be used for?

wonkylegs · 20/10/2021 10:06

It's nominally my studio (I'm an architect) so will have a desk & storage tucked in one corner but it's also going to be an additional living space with a sofa bed for guests and the covered patio for eating outside in summer. It will have a fridge, sink, kettle etc as it has a wall of built in units.
I'm generally going to retreat out here and leave DH and the kids in the house, I may never come back inside when it's finished.

I can see why you'd retreat there! I'd read before you are an architect - great place to showcase your designs.
Callmejudith · 20/10/2021 12:06

Oh wow @wonkylegs that is incredible. You missed the part about all your Mumsnet extension friends coming to retreat there too.

I'm in the office today so DH is in charge. So far he's had the kitchen installer, the roofer, the plumber and two amazon deliveries to the door. Fair to say he's a bit stressed #revenge

Feeling incredibly anxious today around whether the builders will get the floor magically flat ... they, however, seem to be fannying about with huge fascia's again...

Terracedtardis · 20/10/2021 12:25

My builders are here today woohoo! No idea what they are actually doing mind 😂
Also after today it looks as though we have 3 whole days rain free so they can actually finish the fibreglass roof 🙏

Terracedtardis · 20/10/2021 12:26

@wonkylegs that’s amazing! You could rent it as a holiday let when it’s finished 😆

wonkylegs · 20/10/2021 12:32

@Callmejudith everyone's welcome once it's finally finished 🥂

StrongArm · 20/10/2021 12:58

don't tempt us!

my architect has gone on holiday again. She's had more holiday in the last 3 months than I've had in about 5 years so we now need to wait till November for the plans (which I'm not sure will be final at that point anyway). Sigh. I'm itching to get something to get an idea of the cost. The more they put in, the more I wonder if we will be able to afford it.

I am still concerned about heating but have also figured out that if we cant get one of the extensions rebuilt, we might be able to put a mezzanine level in the room that might be smaller which will make the room bigger so feel less worried by that.

We are going to have a long route through planning as we will need consultation beforehand - they reckon it will take 12 weeks in all just to get through that stage. If we submit in November, even the first approval/rejection is only likely to come in Jan/Feb given the Xmas break.

StrongArm · 20/10/2021 12:59

@wonkylegs I'm not sure I'd ever be in the house either with such a lovely space!

Callmejudith · 20/10/2021 14:05

@Indecisivelurcher everything crossed for the floor.

@Terracedtardis will do a dry weather dance for you

@StrongArm wow that’s a long wait. Have you given the architect a deadline?

PoshWatchShitShoes · 20/10/2021 14:49

Oh my goodness, issues on site today 🤦🏼‍♀️

First up, this photo shows the underfloor heating originally in the wrong pantry on the right (for food)!! Thank goodness I got there just before the screed goes down 😭 They swapped it over for me, so it's now in the left pantry instead (storage of other stuff, not sure what yet).

Second photo...We found the main drains access under the utility floor. No idea how they got planning permission 30 years ago to build over it. Anyway, we uncovered, had a look and have now covered it back up. For some reason, the builder decided not to lay heating over it. Apparently it could damage the underfloor heating pipes if we do so, so I'm going to have a massive fucking cold patch in the middle of my utility floor 😭😭😭

Then the plumber has plumbed all 3 of my bedroom radiators out of the walls, when I wanted only 2 of them out of the walls and the other 1 from the floor. I can live with this, but it's really annoying.

Christ knows what will go wrong next.

Asked about screed, as I remember someone had a long waiting time for theirs. It's going down today. We can't walk on it till day 3 and they can't start tiling till day 15
