Callmejudith I am so jealous!!!! Can we have some more pictures.

StrongArm · 18/10/2021 12:16

@Callmejudith I am lol at the description of your dh!

brilliant news on windows and on kitchens arriving!

@nomoneytreehere I am also concerned about the cost. We are doing the drawings now and it involves 2 extensions being rebuilt, one smaller piece being extended plus replumbing etc. Every room bar one will be changed (walls moving, bathrooms moving). So I am concerned about how much this will cost!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/10/2021 12:19

Amazing @Callmejudith 👏 An actual real life new kitchen 🤩

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/10/2021 12:24

@nomoneytreehere ouch, that's so much money.

I think I'm at £320k. Actually that doesn't include the new outside step we'll need to new front door, no landscaping, I haven't included fitted wardrobes, any new furniture, the post-build clean or new security system and intercom 🙈

I think the hard wood floor we'd tried to preserve will need replacing... actually that's quite a scary thought.

I really should do a proper spreadsheet at some point!!

Callmejudith · 18/10/2021 12:41

£320k is a huge amount of money but if it adds value to the house and is worth it for the extra space then it's got to be worth it.

I have a spreadsheet but I'm scared of it. We are definitely going to end up with more on credit than I wanted but I'm hoping for a decent bonus in January. Also planning to spend a lot less money on takeaways leading up to xmas. I reckon I've easily put on a stone with all the wine and shit food.

So exciting to see kitchens!

Started setting out our island units yesterday but discovered 2 of the units got damaged in transit. Got to wait another week for replacements but we'll use the damaged ones to set everything up as we have our worktop templating being done next week.

Only got 1st coat on walls but our pale grey (colour match for F&B Wevet) is very light, hardly a difference between it and brilliant white on ceiling. Am hoping it won't look too clinical but against the dove grey units I think it works well.

I'm hear you all regarding DHs, I'm very lucky mine is very handy but working with him is a nightmare as he's terrible at explaining things and gets frustrated when I don't understand his gibberish!

Wow, £230k is more than my house is worth! Hoping it's worth that after our work is done 😉
Can't get anywhere near my kitchen at the min, so have retreated to a cafe for lunch with ddog in tow. Thinking I'll 'treat' the kids by letting them pick their own microwave meal from tesco for tea.

Indecisivelurcher · 18/10/2021 13:16

Need to set up microwave and slow cooker in the living room.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/10/2021 13:47

Love Wevet and dove grey @RebelGeek76

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/10/2021 13:52

We're refurbishing, rather than extending. I'm comfortable that we'll easily make back what we're spending. Not that I'm moving...ever 😂

Just because I haven't said it today... I HATE THIS PROCESS!! Moving back in 6 weeks tomorrow!!! Hahaha

PoshWatchShitShoes · 18/10/2021 13:59

@wonkylegs that looks fantastic

nomoneytreehere · 18/10/2021 14:23

We are going to get an estate agent round to look at the plans. We need more space as we have lots of children and only one bathroom and everyone is sharing a bedroom. Our kitchen isn't big enough for us all to sit around the table.

Housing is expensive in our city so to move would cost about £50k stamp duty etc so I'm thinking as long as the build just about adds the value of what we are spending it's ok. It's an enormous amount of money to spend though. More than both of our parents houses are worth. It's a huge amount of money for us personally too - this feels like the one chance to get the perfect house for us.

Anyhow we have to get planning yet. The architect seems to think it's fine but I think it's really ambitious. Fingers crossed it just floats through!! I'm so jealous of all of you that are getting to the end of this journey

niki26 · 18/10/2021 14:26

We are also renovating - not extending but we have been very lucky because a month before we sold our house and completed on our purchase a flat my husband owns but rents out became vacant! So we all moved into here, including the cat!

So we've never actually lived in the new house! Expecting to move in 18th December - can't wait!!! The house will be lovely for us - and much bigger than our two up two down....but I am jealous at all your lovely big extensions!

Indecisivelurcher · 18/10/2021 14:50

@RebelGeek76 that's looking great!

Was musing today I wish we'd orientated our roof lantern the way you have... shall I ask them to take it out and start again :)

wonkylegs · 18/10/2021 16:02

@RebelGeek76 that looks like it's going to be an amazing space

wonkylegs · 18/10/2021 16:22

They are still fitting but I'm loving it so far - I haven't stopped smiling

I think we will have spent about £1.8k per square meter when we finish. We haven't put in a full kitchen as we already have done that, so that doesn't include kitcheny stuff.
Our house has risen in value more than we have spent on it, but we wouldn't be able to afford what we are creating. So it's been worth the pain and investment for us. Or rather we hope it will be worth it!!

I’ve just ordered three lazy Susans to aid kitchen organisation Blush

@Callmejudith that looks lovely! I can see why you are delighted!

Hothammock · 18/10/2021 18:16

@Callmejudith wow that is amazing progress, looks fab!!

wonkylegs · 18/10/2021 18:42

@Callmejudith looks great, progress is fantastic isn't it.

Callmejudith · 18/10/2021 18:49

They’re so quick but the cupboards also come built so there’s not too much building on site which is great. We have a ridiculous amount of space above the cupboards which is great.

RebelGeek76 · 18/10/2021 19:28

@Callmejudith wow that looks amazing and such great progress! Starting to wish we'd got someone in to fit ours!

Got our underfloor heating kit delivered this afternoon which we'll tackle once units are fitted (it's a retrofit overfloor system rather than screeded one). I've decided to take tomorrow and weds off to tackle the rest of painting as feeling guilty that DH is doing most stuff on his own whilst I look after our 2yo.
