Ottoman bed vs Divan Bed

Hi all. Hope this is the correct thread. Need to maximise space and storage so which is better (more storage, more practical, durable etc).

Divan with 4 drawers or ottoman lift up storage bed. Double size btw, wont have space for a king.

Neither. Get a bed with space underneath and use boxes and bags under there.

Kimblebee19 · 06/09/2021 07:21

Absolutely love our ottoman storage bed! SO much storage room that would be lost with drawers instead. Only slight drawback I can see being making it hard to move the bed around if we wanted to once its set up, but I wouldn't go back to any other type now.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 06/09/2021 07:25

Ottoman. We used to have a frame bed with boxes under and I reckon we get twice as much in the same-sized ottoman and no dust (it is a bit higher though). Total gamechanger. Drawers would have meant no bedside cabinets. We use plastic pop-up crates inside the ottoman to creat storage spaces for different types of item.

Skelator1 · 06/09/2021 07:25

I have an ottoman, we have so much under there.
I had a divan at my parents and feel I can get more in the ottoman.

Agadorsparticus · 06/09/2021 07:31

Ottoman everyday. You can fit much larger and taller items under.
My only criticism is that I can't get things I need whilst DH is sleeping and as he works nights that can be quite often.

Leobynature · 06/09/2021 07:37

I absolutely love my ottoman bed. So much storage and much stronger than a divan. No dust on the items. I only put things that I need to use occasionally as it is not as accessible as drawers.

WimpoleHat · 06/09/2021 07:38

Stupid question - but are the ottomans heavy/difficult to open? Presumably you need to take the bedding off too?

whatnumber · 06/09/2021 07:38

I'm looking at ottomans at the moment. Some are very expensive.
Would anyone mind sharing which one they bought?

Leobynature · 06/09/2021 07:56

The ottoman can be heavy to lift and pull down and really needs a mattress on top to work. All bedding can stay on

stormelf · 06/09/2021 07:56

We have an ottoman bed. Can fit so much under it and not have to worry about boxes. Ours is split into two sections and each section has a solid base so I don't need to worry about dust. It's full of two large suitcases, duvet covers, spare duvets, all the kids old clothes in vacuum bags. Very easy to lift as well, even with a huge pregnancy bump like me

WimpoleHat · 06/09/2021 08:42

Food for thought for me. Thanks @Leobynature and @stormelf.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 06/09/2021 11:26

Ours lifts very easily, it's king sized, opens from the foot end and has 4 hydraulic lifters. When we got it the DCs were about 10 and 8 and both could lift it quite easily. It needs both hands to raise and lower.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 06/09/2021 11:28

No need to take bedding off either, it just stays put. Just make sure there are no small items on the bed when you lift it (we found a TV remote control in the back of ours, someone must have left it by the pillows).

Cillmantain · 06/09/2021 11:31

Ottoman all the way.
Stores so much more than any other option.
No dust.Very easy to lift

@whatnumber I bought this one, absolutely love it

Tomnooktoldmeto · 06/09/2021 12:59

We switched from a divan to an ottoman and doubled the storage capacity, as others have said ours has 4 gas lift brackets so even I can lift it with bad shoulders

TheWholeWorld · 06/09/2021 13:04

Ottoman all the way. I bought those Ikea skubb storage cases for it so it's all neatly divided into clothes, towels and so on.

Planty13 · 06/09/2021 13:04

I am hoping to get an ottoman soon as they do seem better! I would love some links too Grin

We bought from Time4Sleep. The 'maxi steel grey upholstered' one. Was £499 for double at the time I think, but seems to have gone up 100 quid in a few years...or they're building up to a sale.
milveycrohn · 06/09/2021 13:25

The Ottoman would be better, I think.
We actually have a bed with pull out drawers. However, it means moving the bedside table to get anything out.

Teaandsugar · 06/09/2021 13:41

Do all ottoman beds come with the headboard? Ideally, I would want one without.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 06/09/2021 14:00

Love my Otterman bed can fit so much crap underneath. As others have said just make sure you dont leave controllers/phones on the bed when you lift it.

Bluepop09 · 06/09/2021 14:44

Ottoman, definitely! We've bought 2 from this place and both are brill quality, great prices too. Not hard to pull up/push down either www.instagram.com/esupasaver/?hl=en

Sum2021 · 06/09/2021 16:22

Looks unanimous! Ottoman it is! Love you MN'ers!! Always helping my indecisive behind!
