Ottoman bed vs Divan Bed

Hi all. Hope this is the correct thread. Need to maximise space and storage so which is better (more storage, more practical, durable etc).

Divan with 4 drawers or ottoman lift up storage bed. Double size btw, wont have space for a king.

Can I hijack to ask - do
Ottoman beds generally get delivered in one piece or so they need to be assembled? We have narrow stairs and couldn’t get a king size divan up the stairs….

Ours (kingsize) was delivered in sections (we have a narrow staircase which is at right angles to the also narrow hall). The base is made of two smaller halves which clip together, then the kingsize lid that the mattress sits on and a separate headboard. The delivery men had no problems getting it in and assembled.

@Greytminds Yeah ours came in pieces too, the headboard and footboard, two sides, then the metal frame for the gas lift part, boards for the floor area and all the little bits for in between

I think it depends on what you want to store in there. I got a bed with four drawers as I wanted to store socks and underwear etc in separate drawers and have quick easy access to them.

@milveycrohn

The Ottoman would be better, I think. We actually have a bed with pull out drawers. However, it means moving the bedside table to get anything out.

M&S sell beds with smaller drawers at the top which allows space for bedside tables

We have an IKEA Malm ottoman bed. It was cheap, holds lots, was quite easy to assemble (came flat packed), no need to hoover underneath the bed, easy to lift/close for a weakling like me. I love it.
I think the fabric ottoman beds will look as dated as divans in a few years. The fabric needing to be cleaned would also put me off those.

DollyPartBaked · 12/09/2021 22:24

I don't even need a new bed and I'm thinking I need to buy an ottoman now 😂

KiraChris · 04/10/2023 20:52

Hi is your ottoman bed with wooden slats or is it like a divan bed with material slabs underneath?

NewFriendlyLadybird · 04/10/2023 21:52

Another vote here for an ottoman.

onceinablue · 06/10/2023 14:23

Would any of these ottoman beds be suitable for my father who weighs around 20 stone and my mother who weighs around 9 stone? I know in the past their beds don't last very long because of his weight.

TheWholeWorld · 07/10/2023 17:03

My husband and I weigh about the same as your mum and dad

We've had our ottoman bed for five years and it's good as new

We do have a very heavy, very firm pocket sprung mattress though - I don't know if that makes a difference.

I think ottomans are better for heavy people than beds with wooden slats though. As you're lying on quite a thick piece of MDF rather than thinner slats. We have broken a few slats in previous beds.
