Lelliebellieboo · 17/08/2021 09:26

I'm trying to get as organised as possible. I keep reading about having an essentials box in the car of things that we will want to have easy access to, rather than being packed in with everything else.

Here is my list so far - what else should I add in?

Shoes! We forgot shoes. (They had to unload the shoe cupboard from the van so we could grab a pair each 🤣)

Yutes · 17/08/2021 09:30

A lamp or some bulbs 💡 maybe a torch too

ShoppingBasket · 17/08/2021 09:30

Tea towels

Akire · 17/08/2021 09:33

Looks great list.

Hand towels for bathrooms
Tampons/pad as stressful situations can make periods arrive
Small first aid kit for headaches, splinters and cuts from moving things around
Wine glasses and bottle opener!

I cannot believe I left out the most important part - the wine!!!!!

Good call on the small first aid kit as well.

Batteries and a torch is a good shout as well!

It pissed down when we moved and we all got absolutely soaked as our proper raincoats were packed!

Depending on what you need to do at home, we also got one of those 4G/5G router things that everyone can connect their devices to

Also I put our passports and important documents in the essentials bag as I was worried about losing them!

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/08/2021 09:50

Thanks for this OP - I'm moving later this year!

I'd add laptop (if you have one), mobile phone and charger.

Lelliebellieboo · 17/08/2021 09:59

I've also printed off a copy of my floor plan in the new house so I can tell the removals people which room to put which boxes in.

I'm planning on making a box of my valuables/passports/birth certificates/jewellry/important paperwork and take that to my mums the week before so that doesn't get lost

Don’t forget to take a photo of the gas and electric meters in the old house as you leave and new house when you arrive. Lease out the meter cupboard key.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2021 10:35

I the new house, put labels on the doors saying which room they are, corresponding to what it says on the packing boxes if it’s not obviously kitchen or bathroom etc eg: “Bedroom 3”

Not for your list but just advice. Keep your wallet/phone on you at all times. We moved a couple of years ago and my bag was stolen from the car while we were all distracted. I was so concerned about logistics, i forgot the basics. It was a fairly quiet area so i was really caught off guard. Police said it wasn't uncommon.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/08/2021 10:47

Padlocks for sheds etc
Batteries
Toilet paper

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/08/2021 10:59

Oh I totally misread the op, I thought it was boot supplies in case you break down! I was unsure why there was a kettle etc.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 17/08/2021 21:35

Babywipes!
Has your new place got curtains? I moved somewhere with blinds in all rooms apart from the master bedroom - cue attempting to fit curtains on moving day!

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/08/2021 21:56

Any medications you're going to need.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/08/2021 23:25
