What to include in "essentials box" on moving day

I'm trying to get as organised as possible. I keep reading about having an essentials box in the car of things that we will want to have easy access to, rather than being packed in with everything else.

Here is my list so far - what else should I add in?

Extension lead
Allen keys
Screwdrivers
Phone charger
Scissors

DC teddies / small toys

Make up bag
Toiletries
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Toilet roll
Shampoo
Shower gel
Hairbrush / hairbands
Hand soap

Bedding
Pyjamas
Towels

Dog food
Dog treats
Poo bags
Dog bed
Dog toys

Alarm clock
Night light

Bin liners

DVD Player / remote / plug
few DVDs

Remote controls

Kettle
Mugs
Teaspoons
Glasses
Squash
Coffee
Sugar

Paper plates
Cutlery

Kitchen towel
J Cloths
Cleaning wipes
Disinfectant
Mop
Vaccuum cleaner and charger

Breakfast food for day 2

Clothes for 2-3 days each

I love this - we are moving on Tuesday and I'm totally going to use your list OP - you're far more organised than me!

I am so impressed. I'm not moving and I don't have everything on your list Grin
I'm going to create an essentials staying box!

Perfectly timed thread - moving soon and I’m trying to be better at it!
I was proposing to pack suitcases as if we were going away for a week or two and live out of those.
I’m never sure where to put the kettle and things? Here, so the guys can have a brew while they’re loading, or there, so they can have one unloading? I’m not buying another kettle!

Any tips on packing early? We don’t have space for loads of boxes sitting about, otherwise I’d pack the books up now.

Are wardrobe boxes worth it? We’d only need one I think.

Makeup bag 😀

Chargers for phones, cables, internet router...agree with getting a mobile internet device if you won't be on usual internet provider for a week or so...pens, something easy to do ( noodle pot) if you get the munchies and the local delivery time is 60mins plus and your microwave is boxed up..also nice bath oil to use at the end of the day when you're exhausted and have back ache (I've moved 10 times in 35 years and there's nothing nicer than a late night bath!) Good luck

We solved this by having the kettle at the old house and filling thermos flasks/travel mugs for tea at the new house.

Making notes - great thread!

WitchDancer · 28/08/2021 09:15

Bottles of water/cans of pop

RampantIvy · 28/08/2021 09:22

No tea bags Shock
Not everyone drinks coffee, and the removal men might appreciate a cup of tea.

Keep brewing facilities in your o,d house as they removals people may well have packed up the van before you get the r were hanging round for 2 hours! They appreciated a brew and biscuits.

@Wrongsideofhistorymyarse

Any medications you're going to need.
That's vital. I know of a sad case where someone packed their heart meds and couldn't find them, many years ago.
Embracelife · 28/08/2021 23:22

What will you watch the dvds on as in screen? TV?

NoTeaForMe · 28/08/2021 23:29

Biscuits! The first thing we did when we moved earlier this year was have a cup of tea and a biscuit. We all needed the sugar boost and a 10 minute sit down was very appreciated!

Countmeout · 29/08/2021 08:34

A heart like a lion .
And in my case a new kitten I accidentally got.
Good lists though.

mamaduckbone · 04/09/2021 20:52

Our move went well on Tuesday...helpful things were definitely keeping kettle, mugs, biscuits etc at the old house until the last minute (and sugar - our removal guys all took 2 sugars and I had to go and buy more!)
Also I packed a small rucksack with toothbrushes, medication and other essential toiletries, TV remote and phone chargers.
All this went in the car so we could get at it easily.
