Anyone know what gets left in the kitchen during replacement?

Excitingly our new kitchen is being delivered on Friday and work starts on Monday.
DH and I have been disagreeing about what happens and what is left.
I say it’s only the sink, he insists it has to be the microwave too.
I have said we will have to put the kitchen table in the living room and the kettle, coffee machine and microwave on it. He disagrees
I have pointed out that the worktops will be removed, he won’t believe me

Happy news about your kitchen!?

When we've had ours done, absolutely nothing is left - maybe a tap not capped off, but no sink.

All 'cooking' and washing up to be done in the bath or elsewhere.

GrrRightBackAtYou · 21/07/2021 16:01

He honestly thinks they are going to work around a microwave to fit a new kitchen? 😂

livingoffcoffee · 21/07/2021 16:03

kitchen table in the living room and the kettle, coffee machine and microwave on it.

Yes. And you'll be doing dishes in the bathroom sink/bathtub.

Heronwatcher · 21/07/2021 16:05

Nothing is left, unless you specifically ask for it to be, and even then you’ll be treading through a building site to get there. I’d assume the whole room is out of action and set up a mini kitchen (microwave, kettle, washing up bowl and toaster, plus crockery etc) elsewhere. We had to fill a washing up bowl from the bathroom to wash up.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 21/07/2021 16:05

I don't understand. Are you not getting a new sink?Confused

GeorgiePorge · 21/07/2021 16:09

yep - normally nothing is left - if the worktops are changing then the sink has to come out as well as sits on the work top (or is part of the work top if really posh). If free standing like a belfast sink I would be wanting it moved any way just to protect it whilst new one is going in.

Dining room table for microwave, kettle and tea bits and a washing up bowl in the bathroom sink.

New kitchen is soo exciting though - good luck and hope it goes well!

Bargebill19 · 21/07/2021 16:14

Nothing - it’s a shell! We used the toilet basin for washing up and water for kettle and set up camp in the sitting room. Pretended we were camping.

This is what we did last year.

The fitters completely gutted the kitchen and left a totally empty shell ready for the new one to go in.

Wolfiefan · 21/07/2021 16:19

Talk to the fitters. They have to rip the whole thing out. They’ll usually leave you a sink as long as possible but that’ll have to come out too.

Micemakingclothes · 21/07/2021 16:22

Everything you ordered replaced is replaced.
They do not leave any sort of functional space for you to use during the work. If you want a sink you have a bathroom. If you want a microwave or a kettle, put one somewhere else in the house. You basically aren’t going to step foot in the kitchen.

SoddingWeddings · 21/07/2021 16:24

Err, what have you ordered?

Mmmmdanone · 21/07/2021 16:35

You have a few days with absolutely no kitchen.

Mydogisagentleman · 21/07/2021 16:40

Ha! Thought so.
Everything is being replaced. Cooker, built in microwave, induction-hob, cupboards, drawers, sink, corner pantry…
I think the best thing would be to take the dog to my parents for the duration of the works

Bit of a nuisances about the washing up. Our bath is 2 floors up and the closest hand basin is in the downstairs toilet and is tiny.
Oh well, eating out it is

We are having ours done. Fridge freezer and dining table are in the living room, microwave and kettle are on the coffee table, a crate of crockery is on the hearth. Everything else is in the garden shed (including all non-fridge food, contents of cupboards, washing machine and tumble dryer). Bathroom is for washing up (it has drinking water from the basin cold tap).

Soontobe60 · 21/07/2021 16:49

It’ll be stripped bare within hours of the fitters arriving! This was mine 🤣

Blimey, I hadn’t even considered the fridge and freezer or washing machine and dishwasher.
Doggy is definitely going on holiday!

If you’re lucky they might set up a portable sink, plumbed temporarily in when they leave in the evening, and an oven/hob on wheels. We got this during our recent work (we’re in the last week now and appliances are back online) but only because they were able to stick them in the utility when they weren’t working there.

We set up microwave, kettle, and toaster in the playroom plus big cheap plastic laundry bags full of essential food and stuff. Total build has taken 9 weeks, so we’re pretty glad it’s coming to an end!

isseys4xmastinselcats · 21/07/2021 17:22

this was two weeks before when the plasterer and electrician turned up the sink, and worktop went for a burton and we had a shell with a fridge and cooker for two weeks before the new kitchen went in

Karwomannghia · 21/07/2021 17:25

Bless him. No, nothing will be there. Set up fridge microwave toaster etc in another room with a washing up bowl to take to the bathroom. And hope there are no delays.

Crumpledmess · 21/07/2021 17:31

We used paper plates and bowls to save on washing up. And we had no washing machine for several days, which was a nuisance. It was all worth it in the end!

Mydogisagentleman · 21/07/2021 17:37

Hopefully it won’t take longer than 5 days, that’s what the installer told us.
They start on the Monday, I am going to collect our DD from university on the Wednesday and all 3 of us are going to Wigan on Friday for the weekend.
Piss poor planning really

Get on top of your laundry beforehand, sheets, towels, the lot.

dementedpixie · 21/07/2021 17:40

We moved our fridge freezer, microwave, etc into a spare room along with kitchen table. We kept our washing machine and dishwasher so they worked round them.

They remove everything including the kitchen sink!
