Anyone know what gets left in the kitchen during replacement?

Excitingly our new kitchen is being delivered on Friday and work starts on Monday.
DH and I have been disagreeing about what happens and what is left.
I say it’s only the sink, he insists it has to be the microwave too.
I have said we will have to put the kitchen table in the living room and the kettle, coffee machine and microwave on it. He disagrees
I have pointed out that the worktops will be removed, he won’t believe me

Our fitters did us a temporary sink, worktop, washing machine in the sitting room (Victorian terrace so the back room, just meant one temporary pipe up the side return and through the wall). We plonked a portable induction hob and microwave on the worktop they did. (On trestles)

We finished ours a few weeks ago and there was absolutely nothing in it for when the fitter started.

I set up a field kitchen on the dining room table with coffee machine, kettle, toaster, slow cooker and microwave on it. Food stuffs were in big plastic boxes on the floor- bread , cereals etc.
Disposable plates and dishes are your friend- washing up in the bath is grim
Bottled water for filling kettle etc so you aren't running up and down stairs to get water
We have an overflow fridge freezer in the garage so used that.
Yes to takeaways and rotisserie chicken was a staple along with microwave rice, couscous etc

Have a wild weekend in WiganSmile!

Ours always left the sink connected somewhere before they left . They were pacing the floor carrying it one evening whilst they worked it out...

Mine is being done in September, so thanks for the tips. I think I'll move out for a week!

Everything comes out - in our case, even the plaster off the walls. The concrete floor went too; it looked like a ploughed field for a while. We had a field kitchen in the garage; my son was most put out that I couldn't produce a roast dinner though.

Ask them to set up a temporary sink. We had the sink in the hall just before the kitchen door, which was sealed up. Baby Belling oven/ stove, microwave and small fridge in dining room. We were having an extension done too and had a baby, toddler and a teen - no way could we have functioned without a temporary sink.

NoYOUbekind · 22/07/2021 00:00

you need to speak to them to see what they can do for you, but in a 5 day fit out I would expect the first thing they'll do is strip the room completely bare. For context, we had our kitchen replaced as part of an extension build and did without anything for 6 weeks! That was with them leaving the sink as long as possible,,,

Think about where the fridge can go. Get ahead on the washing and maybe batch cook some food you can freeze. Set up your kitchen table with microwave, kettle, etc. Consider paper plates/plastic cutlery (I know the waste is something awful though). An absolute must have is two washing up basins - one to stack dirty stuff, one to stack clean stuff to dry off. Stock up on bottled water too.

Dust andmore dust. That's what is left!
I rescued the fridge, microwave and kettle, a couple of mugs, knife fork spoon and used paper plates.

We set up a couple of party tables in the dining room - microwave, slow cooker, plug-in induction hob, toaster & kettle and chopping boards, etc. Utensils in a huge plant pot. It was fine!

AlwaysLatte · 22/07/2021 00:10

Oh, and the 'sink' was a washing up bowl carried in from the bathroom!

LittleBearPad · 22/07/2021 00:22

Nothing will be left.

You need to essentially camp. Wash up in the bathroom. You won’t get washing etc done.

Ours done in June few years back. Weather like now (uk) , not quite as hot. We had camping stove on patio for two weeks!
Simplified meals, used takeaways , pub meals a couple of times.

My advice to anyone getting a new kitchen is have it done in the summer.

EverythingDelegated · 22/07/2021 15:13

Yes, we deliberately planned to do ours at this time of year, started planning last autumn.

Notreallyawaitress · 23/07/2021 18:38

Current state of our kitchen and the temporary kitchen set up in the dining room ( I’ve lived in houses with much smaller kitchens! ) I’ve got a portable halogen hob but we’re planning on using the barbecue a lot. Hoping to move the Belfast sink into the garden by the outside tap so we can wash up out there. The only thing that will be left in the kitchen when the fitters turn up is the range cooker. And yes, the dog is very confused!
