Do you walk barefoot in your house?

Being a wimp, I always prefer to wear some sort of footwear at home – e.g. slippers in winter, flip-flops in summer (if we’re lucky enough to have a warm one). Ok, we have a fluffy monster of a dog and the indoor-outdoor boundaries get blurred in the room with the garden access, but even when we visit some our friends’ immaculately clean homes, I feel uncomfortable if I have to surrender my shoes.

However, reading many floor-related threads on MN, I see lots of comments about, for example, tiled / bare wood floors being too cold to stand on, etc. Surely, if you wear some sort of home shoes, this isn’t an issue? Or am I a slipper-wearing freak and most people just wander around their houses barefoot or in socks at most? Blush Confused

@MsMeNz White socks with sliders are apparently a thing, maybe same applies to crocks as well nowadays? Just make sure the socks are white, mid-calf length Wink Grin

Socks & shoes on! Slippers for me.

The idea of barefoot and all that foot jam being smushed into my carpets or sweaty footprints on my hard floors 🤢🤮

gurglebelly · 09/05/2021 19:53

Always barefoot on my house unless my feet get cold (and then slippers)

Spectrumofhumanlife · 09/05/2021 19:54

Sometimes wonder how manky some people’s feet are Grin. I have no idea what ‘foot jam’ is but I’m pretty sure I don’t have it, and my bare feet aren’t sweaty at all. My feet only get sweaty if I wear cheap unbreathable shoes.

MoonCow · 09/05/2021 20:03

Yes or socks sometimes but I do get cold feet!

Josette77 · 09/05/2021 20:04

My feet are clean and dry. I go barefoot. I love the feeling of my feet on the ground. I wear fuzzy socks or slippers when it's freezing, but I live in eastern Canada.

@SpnBaby1967 foot jam!

Oh no, I can't unsee this now! 😳🤮

Feet are horrid

ufucoffee · 09/05/2021 20:20

Barefoot all the time. In the garden as well. I'd love to live somewhere where I could be barefoot all the time.

LittleBearPad · 09/05/2021 20:24

Barefoot always - I can’t bear slippers. Unless I’m wearing opaque tights.

I also go outside with bare feet frequently and walk through my house with outdoor shoes on. I once stepped on a snail.

House is carpeted other than kitchens & bathrooms.

I lived in NZ for many years, so barefoot is my default. But it's colder here, so through the winter usually socks. With crocs by the door for pegging out laundry etc because the path is a weird material that makes your feet very dirty.

I like my socks & footwear to be close fitting so I can't wear slipper socks, big fluffy socks or slippers - they're just too sloppy.

Last year I bought some waterproof boots on Wowcher for outside (obviously) but they're very light and snug. I used them for slippers instead. BRILLIANT comfortable, firm fitting, cosy slippers. Recently ordered another pair to 'put away' gor after these die!

However, (the very soft) soles have destroyed the carpet where I sit. I'm renovating & the carpet is going to be replaced anyway, so no big deal, but I'm glad I discovered it now & not after I replaced the carpet. Gutted I can't use them for slippers anymore

Back to socks when cold. Barefoot otherwise!

Yours might be. Mine aren't!
HarrisMcCoo · 09/05/2021 20:36

Slippers. Always.

Another scenario I've come across at someone else's house. Outdoor shoes off - ok, fare enough, their house their rules. But then I was offered special guest slippers. I'm not sure how many guests have worn these slippers before me (foot jam! Hmm Grin), so I declined. I think the hosts were mildly offended, given that they knew about my slippers-always-on preference and thought they were gong extra mile for me Blush Was I too rude to refuse? If you're a slipper wearer, would you wear guest slippers offered by the hosts?

I usually take my own.

CookPassBabtridge · 10/05/2021 07:43

Always something on my feet or they end up dirty and hairy!

Thecazelets · 10/05/2021 09:27

Barefoot here, but we don't have pets and we do have underfloor heating. Can't bear wearing slippers or anything on my feet in the house - feels very strange - like wearing clothes in the bath!
