Kitchen dilemma

Hi all,
Just after some feedback on which tiles to chose for our new kitchen.
I’m really scared of making the wrong decision, so need help!
Kitchen is a a sage colour.
I feel white metro (probably mini metro) is the sage choice.
But I’m very tempted by a patterned tile, especially one from Fired Earth 🤦🏻‍♀️

What do your cabinets look like? Are they what's Sage colour or is it the walls? What about your worktops?

Pippaiom · 24/04/2021 00:10

Kitchen units are sage, walls a pale grey, worktop is white with flecks.
It’s an open plan kitchen/dining area.
I’ll try to post pics.

Is it possible to post photos?
I’m a technically challenged newby 😐

I'm going with white metro for mine. As I think patterned tiles will date very quickly. Pity as there are some gorgeous tiles out there!

Pippaiom · 24/04/2021 08:38

I can’t seem to find a way to post photos.
Our kitchen is the 1909 slab inset in flint grey (which I think is really a sage greeen)
The patterned tiles I’ve fallen for are Fired Earth Boulangerie Florian.
One of the walls in the living area is papered with Minimodern, Moordale in mustard, which I also need to take into consideration.

So, we had this issue. Our kitchen was installed a year ago and we painted the wall in little greene intelligent Matt paint. A year on there is not a mark on it and still no tiles, so I think we will just continue as is.

Saltyslug · 24/04/2021 09:21

The sage units with that tile are a good combination. The tiles are quite classic in style.

Pippaiom · 24/04/2021 09:28

Saltyslug
Thank you so so much.
Yes, those are the tiles I’m tempted by, and the correct kitchen units.

I hate to sound boring, but I always stick to plain timeless tiles, because they are such a pain to change, and they do date.

And that’s the paper on a feature wall on the lounge area of the room.

Nice wallpaper

Saltyslug · 24/04/2021 09:39

Do you have a kitchen diner lounge or two semi separate areas or two completely separate rooms

Pippaiom · 24/04/2021 09:43

It’s a kitchen diner lounge.
Think I’m slightly worried about the wallpaper and tiles combination, but they’re not really next to one another.

I like to continue the worktop up the wall to top units and behind the extractor all the way to ceiling (if you have a standalone hood). But those tiles are nice too.

Loveistheonlyway · 24/04/2021 09:51

I like them, white metro is too safe

Pippaiom · 24/04/2021 10:30

Thanks all for the advice.
I’m loving Mumsnet!
I’ve sent for a sample of the Boulangerie Florian tile.
My head says metro, my heart says Florian 😬

I think shaker kitchens look better without tiles. We don’t have tiles with ours, and as @Springchickpea, the paint is holding up fine.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 24/04/2021 12:14

Rather than the fired earth tiles or metro tiles what do you think of white with a different pattern?

This is how I envision the patterned tiles looking. I think it will date quickly, although it will hide splashes and everyday grime.

The tiles on the second picture are triangles which feel a bit more contemporary and won't clash with your wallpaper (which I love).

@FoofOfTheWalkingDead
Thanks.
Where are the white tiles from?
Maybe that’s an idea

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 24/04/2021 14:27

Hi @Pippaiom, I saw them on this site naked kitchens so I don't know where the tiles are from but a quick Google of triangle tiles found these www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/white-triangle-100x100x140mm-tiles.

Belindabelle · 24/04/2021 17:09

I don’t have any tiles, just a small upstand on the worktop and then good quality paint. This was meant to be temporary as the tiles I wanted were out of stock. I really like the clean lines and won’t bother getting tiles now.
