Has anyone ever heard of Accord mortgages? Should mortgages be with High Street names?

Our broker has recommended we go with Accord mortgages but I’ve never heard of them. Apparently they are an intermediary product of Yorkshire Building Society. It seems a bit dodgy, does this mean we’re not the great buyers we thought we were?

Is there any problem with having a non-mainstream mortgage lender?

Reviews aren't good. Read a few. www.trustpilot.com/review/www.accordmortgages.com

Figgygal · 14/04/2021 15:41

We had a mortgage with them for a couple of years and never had any problems, also recommended by our broker at the time.

bananamonkey · 14/04/2021 15:42

Was this an Estate Agent broker? I seem to recall being pushed towards Accord by the EA broker we were forced to see to let us view houses (we used our own independent broker and got a mortgage fine with a high st bank). I didn’t feel comfortable either.

We had our mortgage with Accord for five years and they were great.
We borrowed some additional money after about 2 years to add central heating and they were extremely helpful and quick.
I'd have no problems going with them again and would recommend them.

I am with them and it's absolutely fine. Remortgage with few clicks as well at the end of a fix.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/04/2021 16:18

Problem with reviews is that they will be disproportionately negative (that goes for any product) because happy customers usually don't bother review unless it's exceptionally great service. Me includedBlush

Usually mortgage brokers provide several offers to choose from based on your requirements. Most common requirements are 1) lowest possible rate; 2) fixed rate product; 3) affordability. Specific brand usually doesn't feature in people's requirements. If it's important to you and you want a product from a specific bank / building society, then let your broker know.

I worked for YBS / Accord in the past (but not for a long time and I'm not affiliated with them in any way). They are a solid provider and I wouldn't hesitate to go with their mortgage products. In fact Accord was offered to me by a broker a year ago and I would have gone with them if their rate was the lowest but it was second best.

QueenOfPain · 14/04/2021 17:05

I’ve just had a mortgage offer from accord, they’ve been really prompt with no messing about or deliberating over tiny details.

They’re just the brokers part of Yorkshire Building Society. I don’t think they’re dodgy or only lending to people with rubbish credit.

I also had AIP’s from HSBC and Halifax with no issues. Just so happens that accord came out top on the day that my broker did his league tables for me.

QueenOfPain · 14/04/2021 17:07

Also, I think brokers are pushing them a lot lately because their average turnaround from from application to offer is a lot shorter than many lenders are currently.

If you’re concerned about using a provider of any type of financial product that you haven’t heard of before, you can look them up on the FCA website to make sure they’re legit: register.fca.org.uk/s/

We had an Accord mortgage for 10 years, zero problems

LBOCS2 · 14/04/2021 19:03

We've had three mortgages with Accord. They're broker only, which is possibly why you've not heard of them before. They have good rates but do everything via paper which is hugely frustrating and can be a big hassle.

No complaints here either 🤷🏼‍♀️

LBOCS2 · 14/04/2021 19:05

Oh, and our (independent) broker said the opposite - they have quite strict lending criteria so you have to be fairly squeaky clean to get one of their products, rather than the opposite.

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 14/04/2021 19:10

Our mortgage was with them, no complaints or issues

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/04/2021 19:17

Mine said they arr friendlier than some others and can deal with minir issues not just "computer says no"👀 Tbf to them they really did.
MrsTWH · 14/04/2021 23:24

We had an accord mortgage for 6 years, no problem at all. Our Broker said they were one of the strictest lenders!

ScarletZebra · 14/04/2021 23:31

We remortgaged with Accord just over a year ago. No issues at all.

Palavah · 14/04/2021 23:36

Nothing dodgy about them. V established.
Lots of lenders have different brands that are targeted at brokers.
Agree, always check out with FCA if you're unsure.

Mumofasleepthief · 14/04/2021 23:41

Our mortgage has been with them for last 10 years, no issues, just renewed with new rate

Bbq1 · 14/04/2021 23:47

We've been with Accord 18 months, our financial adviser suggested them. I recommend them, no issues at all so far.

InFiveMins · 14/04/2021 23:52

Same here I recommend Accord, had very good service from them. Been with them for a couple of years, they were recommended by a broker and glad I went with them.

Outnumbered99 · 15/04/2021 12:01

They've been going for years, I work for an independent broker we use them a lot, their service is amongst the best!

Perching · 15/04/2021 12:06

We were with them for 8 years up to two years ago when we moved house, no problems and always very friendly and helpful on the phone. Also very timely with things like re-mortgage reminders and statements.

ArosGartref · 15/04/2021 12:14

I used to work for them underwriting mortgages - pretty bog standard organisation. Applications can only be made through brokers which is why they're not that well known.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 15/04/2021 12:15

We’ve had an accord mortgage for 14 years, never a problem and prompt good service

As others have said they’re a well established brokerage with a very good record
