Has anyone ever heard of Accord mortgages? Should mortgages be with High Street names?

Our broker has recommended we go with Accord mortgages but I’ve never heard of them. Apparently they are an intermediary product of Yorkshire Building Society. It seems a bit dodgy, does this mean we’re not the great buyers we thought we were?

Is there any problem with having a non-mainstream mortgage lender?

At the end of the day, problems can be with any provider. Some had problems with Accord, I know someone who nearly lost house purchase because of Lloyds and someone else who actually did lose the purchase because of Barclays fuffing about and than saying no (which turned out to be based on outdated infor when new one was provided).

Big, well know name isn't a guarantee of good service.

We just took out a (huge) mortgage with Accord.

I trust my broker absolutely and he wouldn't have suggested them if they were dodgy. In fact, we got our full offer within a couple of weeks, even in pandemic times, with no fuss, and everything was prompt and fine with them.

(One quibble - they wouldn't let me change my title to Ms over the phone, so I'm stuck with Miss unless I can be arsed to write them a letter. Smash the patriarchy please, Accord! I haven't been a Miss since 2004 and it should take one click to change.)

I have a mortgage offer from Accord and they have been really good.

Also had one with them before for 3 years with no issues.

Been with them just over a year now. No problems at all from start to finish. Really shocked by the reviews though, that has not been my experience at all!

Yes we had a mortgage with them, it's just Yorkshire Building Society but accessed via a broker. Nothing dodgy at all, and they were perfectly fine.
